ice cr?m, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:07 (fifteen years ago)

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

"why does this guy keep appearing in my fb feed?"

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

each feed is hand curated by an angry nerd

ice cr?m, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:10 (fifteen years ago)

my new social networking platform pitch^

ice cr?m, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:11 (fifteen years ago)

my favourite thing is ppl like my mother-in-law who refused to use paypal bc they're convinced someone is gonna steal all their money, but will happily click really dodgy links on facebook, despite repeated advice to the contrary.

just1n3, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:10 (fifteen years ago)

somehow i "liked" or became a fan of three musicians i've never heard of. how is that possible? feel like someone's inside my facebook, liking bands.

rent, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

this guy i'm friends with but have only met once just "liked" my chemical romance and it was so completely out-of-character that it made him rise hugely in my esteem, and this thread suggests that it wasn't him.

difficult listening hour, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

which is a relief because i like people to stay RIGHT WHERE THEY ARE in my esteem

difficult listening hour, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

ha. it is just a bit worrying, though. i feel somehow compromised. i haven't clicked on any weird links...i dunno.

rent, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:12 (fifteen years ago)

facebook is really not very good at saying "so this other website is going to write on yr wall now, is this cool?", i have noticed - so it might be that kind of thing?

like, i voted for someone's remix in some competition, and that automatically went and wrote on my wall about it (as i was logged in to FB, tho didn't have it open), and obv i didn't notice for about a week because seriously who looks at their own wall?

so maybe some website somewhere took your click on a link to be a vote of confidence in some anono-dude and told FB about it and FB was like, awesome, let's log it, because after all we all want fully-joined-up 360-degree-deal online identities. Or alternately it was an angry nerd, trying to increase the number of dudes liking his mate's band.

c sharp major, Monday, 21 March 2011 08:47 (fifteen years ago)

There are some settings somewhere that have to do with linkage to outside sites that share w/FB I think, that you can turn off? I forget now, but I locked down/disabled everything I could think of ages back, have hidden/blocked every app that ever appeared and so on. OH also adblock plus on firefox is yr friend. No annoying ads in sidebars for me.

bad voise, it sucked, pick a seat (Trayce), Monday, 21 March 2011 09:21 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i'm gonna have to go back and see that my previous locking-down hasn't been pried back open a bit...

because after all we all want fully-joined-up 360-degree-deal online identities

this terrifies me. i know it's an ever-encroaching reality but i mean you can end up seeing some pretty weird things in that online 360. i'm pretty sure i haven't enabled whatever thing sends likes directly to your profile, but i still keep a wide berth from those little "like" icons wherever they pop up.

rent, Monday, 21 March 2011 09:28 (fifteen years ago)

I was on the FB last night, trying to track down people (didn't work, I have their addresses tho), with Amber on my right looking over.

She would inist on calling out "ooh, "Link up with single ladies in your area!" "

"Will you stop reading out the adverts?"

(wife is not a fb user, fill in the rest yerself)

Mark G, Monday, 21 March 2011 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

I always assumed you only got those ads if you said you were single in yr profile?

...new messaging system?

yeah, they put messages on the funny round things you get when you've used up the thread on sewing machines.

you get more of them if you're single

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

I'm listed as married, and I get them.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

My daughter, clearly, doesn't get them.

Mark G, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:27 (fifteen years ago)

I uploaded some pics and facebook was able to group all the pics that contained the same person

wauw

dayo, Thursday, 24 March 2011 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

Wait woah what do you mean group them?

Borads of Candida (Trayce), Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:01 (fifteen years ago)

for tagging, like it found all the pics with person A and I could just tell fb it was that person and it tagged all of them

has everyone else's friends started posting to Facebook less and less and Twitter more and more? for the people i know at least, this seems to be a really recent thing, but it's definitely happening

markers, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

#no

Romford Spring (DG), Friday, 8 April 2011 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

people are firmly dug in to facebook as far as i can see

Romford Spring (DG), Friday, 8 April 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

i should specify that the people i'm talking about are mostly, like, in the 22-24ish range

markers, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:57 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, Facebook getting a lot quieter ime.

stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

except among 50+ people who still taken with notion of posting pix and saying lol

stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

among people i know, there's actually been a lot of going back to facebook as twitter starts to get too...full (though nowhere near an abandonment of twitter)

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

facebook use def way down in my social world, mostly use it like email now. I don't think my close friends use twitter at all.

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

id like people to escape facebook but getting a bunch of people of varying it skillz to sign up for half a dozen websites that replicate what they already have going on facebook is kinda difficult

Romford Spring (DG), Friday, 8 April 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

Twitter is good for the real time where is everyone whats happening right now type stuff - esp when you are out and different groups of people are at different things

orchard, Friday, 8 April 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

id like people to escape facebook but getting a bunch of people of varying it skillz to sign up for half a dozen websites that replicate what they already have going on facebook is kinda difficult

even if i had the it skills for this (and maybe I do) I can't figure out what the benefit would be of visiting 6 different websites to replicate what one particular one does

Mordy, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

the facebook killer is gonna have to do everything facebook does + something it can't easily add

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

wtf would that be, I dunno, that's why I'm not rich

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

i can see my FB dwindling to p. much invites to events and keeping in touch with family members and other people who never really got email. No need for a killer, just different services will do different parts well. There wasn't a single AOL killer that brought it down, and FB is closest to Aol.

stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh. My mom joined facebook and friended me.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

i pretty much told my mother "so not gonna happen" when she tried.

two of my muslim friends have halal facebook pages for their families (and they had to make up a bunch of fake "friends" to make them seem plausible too) and hidden real ones

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

I set up my mom's facebook account on the very condition that she not ever try to friend me and to relay that message to the extended family as well. I love em, but a few days a year socializing with them is plenty for me.

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
