how can danny murphy still not be sure if that was a penalty after 5 or 10 minutes watching it?

Woah!
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 20 March 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)
Wasn't quite so impressive on the replay, but top marks for the unexpected.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 20 March 2011 15:09 (fifteen years ago)
Was nervous before this one so even more delighted to come away with 3 points!
― territory of the magic wand (Chris), Sunday, 20 March 2011 15:27 (fifteen years ago)
So 20 pts from 10 games under Kenny. 2 pts a game form would have seen us 1 pt behind Utd over the course of the season, although I know it wouldn't have necessarily worked out like that.
― kuyty on a mission (pandemic), Sunday, 20 March 2011 15:33 (fifteen years ago)
new boss bounce, tbf. But definite improvement.
Had he taken directly from rafa, you'd wonder......
― the '' key on my keybord is not working (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 March 2011 15:38 (fifteen years ago)
Actually my maths is wrong we would have been 3 pts behind Utd. Think it only illustrates how mediocre the top of the league is this season I reckon.God, Jamie Redknapp really really hates Balotelli doesn't he? Look forward to the same moralising about betraying ones teammates when one of Jamie's pals gets sent off.

Nice little bit of clear water below Liverpool now. We're only one result away from having a genuine top four top six

NO! Sorry but no! Liverpool NEARLY FUCKING WENT INTO ADMINISTRATION THIS SEASON! -9, remember? Uncertainty over when they'd get paid? No Torres, Gerrard, Carragher for long stretches? Meireles taking 6 months to adapt like many foreigners (so he wouldn't have got the Kenny bounce)? Reina and Torres flirting with other clubs?
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 20 March 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)
I agree if Kenny had taken the job in Summer still don't think we would be top 3. But Torres, Carra, Gerrard have been missing for large parts of his short reign anyway, Meireles hasn't taken 6 mths to adapt he's been good every time he's played in position, the players were never in danger of not getting paid as far as I remember, Torres left and Pepe is STILL flirting with other clubs. Other than that OTM.

It's really strange to have been willing that one in so much. Effing Drigba though, not moving and making everyone else come and celebrate with him.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 20 March 2011 17:40 (fifteen years ago)
ha sam, i was asking if he'd taken over from rafa, ie done the thankless hard work hodgson had to, would he now be a sacked loser who knows nothing about football?
Lovely header by luiz. Love seeing this shamefully negative shower of bilionaires lose.

another fantastic drogba delivery there. What a winger he'd have made eh?

mancini needs to be got gone soon.
Or am i being unfair, in that the top three this season will all have played either incompetently effective or brutishly negative football
― the '' key on my keybord is not working (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 March 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
effective? negative? you just not watched arsenal this season?

hodgson, thankless hard work? plenty of shit going on at the club when he was here but that's no excuse for the shite tactics and bizarre press conferences.

Yeah, i dunno was abramovich thinking 'cant believe i paid 50m for that' or 'cant believe ancelotti told me pay 50m for that' but either way
― the '' key on my keybord is not working (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)
bizarre press conferences are something kenny is slacking on. essential in any liverpool manager position.

Jermain Defoe squandered numerous chances in Tottenham's 0-0 draw at home to West Ham on Saturday. The England striker has netted 99 times for Spurs but perhaps tempted fate by wearing a T-shirt under his jersey with words "100 GOALS" printed on in.
I laughed
― MPx4A, Sunday, 20 March 2011 19:42 (fifteen years ago)
Before the game he will not have, donning the home-made shirt, questioned the wisdom of forecasting that this game would be his centurion moment.
And after the final whistle in the dressing room he will have silently bared his chest in the knowledge that he was still no further away from this significant achievement than he will have been before the game commenced.

― nultimate fighting champ (cozen), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)
If Chelsea do end up winning the league (which is by no means implausible, given Arsenal's flakiness and United's injuries (plus the fact they haven't looked that good most of the time anyway)) that must be one of the strangest title winning seasons ever? To crush everyone 7-0 for the first couple of months, then slump to relegation form for months, and then suddenly turn it around.
― United Are Back (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:22 (fifteen years ago)
Still Utd's to lose tbh (obv). Saturday a classic case of doing just enough, knowing that the pressure is on the chasing pack not on the leaders. Has been Fergie's mantra for a long time.
― utterfilth (whatever), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:36 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's been chelseathen arsenal now utd, each of them inevitably walking it.
It's great, but cant help feel spurs have lost an opportunity to nominally be 'in a title race' for a little while.
Xxxp to chris, couldnt resist, sorry!
― the '' key on my keybord is not working (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:37 (fifteen years ago)
Terrible as Utd are, they're nearly home & dry already I reckon. Chelsea would still have to put together a run better than anyone's managed all season*, bar maybe themselves at the very start, to have a prayer.
* anyone got a link to chapter & verse on this btw? I suspect Liverpool's four wins under Dalglish would be embarrassingly high up the list of purple patches
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

― the '' key on my keybord is not working (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 March 2011 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
I read on twitter that Man U were the only team to pick up more points than Liverpool in 2011 and I had to go check:
Man U - 25Liverpool - 23Arsenal - 22Chelsea - 20Everton - 18Spurs & Fulham - 16Man City & West Ham - 15
(Man u and Liverpool have played two games more than Arsenal & Chelsea so it's a bit misleading)

I dunno Darragh. I think, esp. considering the shitty form City are in, that 4th is for Spurs.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 20 March 2011 22:42 (fifteen years ago)
Yes; surprised we're that close to them. But the way we're going, I doubt we'll win the game in hand. Whoever it's against.
Guy Mowbray sees Abramovich: "ha, ha! Roman kicks every ball, lives every match ... *he loves his football*." Same thing a minute later. "Ha ha - Roman's reactions just get better every game".
I thought GM was just a mediocrity but in fact he's a pathetic suck for ruthless Russian mobsters, to whom he refers by their first names despite not being friends with, or even known to, them.
― the pinefox, Sunday, 20 March 2011 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 21 March 2011 00:13 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i remember your support of carragher as a key player back then.
be honest, how many liverpool games did you watch under roy?
hodgson was awful, no defences, no excuses, barely any good performances, he was fucking terrible, and a moron in every press conference. he was SHIT. and if roy can blame the ownership thing then rafa is the greatest manager of all time.
― Ask Nult What Your Country Can Do For You (Local Garda), Monday, 21 March 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)
I watched 3 or 4. How is Carragher not a key player, whether I like him or not? And there is a difference between ON THE BRINK OF ADMINISTRATION and being given 26m for Torres and 20m for Keane etc. etc. etc. x90 players
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 21 March 2011 00:23 (fifteen years ago)
