I'm embarrassed for the O.C.!

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 30 April 2004 16:36 (twenty years ago) link

it was the best ep ever!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:29 (twenty years ago) link

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:30 (twenty years ago) link

i have been informed that there was a catfight in the pool. But I haven't seen it yet because I was busy that night.

I kind of thought this show jumped the shark with the Rooney episode but it's regained it's footing by focusing on the adults more. Oh how I wish Marissa would choke on something though.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:50 (twenty years ago) link

The blonde girl is taking the news that her boyfriend knocked someone up well.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 6 May 2004 00:22 (twenty years ago) link

Oh god they just played Iron & Wine.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 6 May 2004 00:38 (twenty years ago) link

maudlin last episode but all in all CONGRATULATIONS OC & THX FOR A GREAT YEAR!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 02:10 (twenty years ago) link

I wonder if farmboy will return to the O.C. fold next year? I hope modelgirl leaves too.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:05 (twenty years ago) link

i don't know who you're talking about, but that dour preggers girl has got to go pronto!

oh you're talking about luke? apparently he left because he wanted more money!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:19 (twenty years ago) link

oh no, dour preggers girl is the best!

I like how Ryan reverted to his Chino uniform (wifebeater, shitty jacket) when he moved out.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:37 (twenty years ago) link

she's the worst!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:39 (twenty years ago) link

marissa is the worst! with her tiny teeth and shoulder blades like fins!

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:40 (twenty years ago) link

dour preggers girl sucks the air out of every scene she's in and also she looks like she's 37

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago) link

and she took ryan away!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago) link

she is hawtttt

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:42 (twenty years ago) link

i like how, just because ryan has maybe a 50/50 chance of being the father of this baby, it means he has to move all the way to chino for her first trimester. to do what, exactly?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:43 (twenty years ago) link

i know! i think she kidnapped him!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:43 (twenty years ago) link

they really piled it on with that closing "hallelujah" montage, didn't they?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:44 (twenty years ago) link

I assume the hidden meaning is that Seth will DROWN

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 May 2004 05:45 (twenty years ago) link

When will S1 be released on DVD? I haven't seen any before this.

I already had to restrain myself from buying the first season of Gilmore Girls today

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 6 May 2004 06:02 (twenty years ago) link

Hem hem, can a moderator put SPOILERS!!! in the thread title for us Brits who are only on episode 5 please?

I do not think one single girl on this show is good looking, but it doesn't matter because my heart spends each episode having a rowdy punch-up with itself over whether it prefers Ryan or Seth. I think Seth clinches it at the moment. ROWR. Sparrow shoulders should run off with lantern jaw and good riddance to them, I say.

Fans of Camera Obscura might like to listen out for one of their songs, which I hear will be used in an episode some time soon.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:35 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, they played Iron and Wine and I almost threw up. I love the show but dont do this to me.

Does Seth really intend to sail to Tahiti on a catamaran? They'll probably spin off the show into Castaway 2. Seth and Captain Oats get stuck on a island and eat Death Cab cd's for 2 years.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:50 (twenty years ago) link

LESSONS LEARNED, SEASON 1 OF OC:

1. Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" is the best song ever.
2. Peter Gallagher's eyebrows are cool.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 11:54 (twenty years ago) link

3. All the moms are hot.
4. Hailey needs a hard fuckin.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 6 May 2004 12:11 (twenty years ago) link

yes, this thread is lacking in comment on the eyebrows. where have they been all season?

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago) link

They should have Fox-debuted "Irish Blood, English Heart" as Seth left home to chase after Ryan.

Mom was doing some serious crying--I felt moved.

Props for shadowing Dawson's Creek, but they can't top Season's 3 climactic Pacey/Joey boat trip.

What happened between Seth and Summer? (I haven't watched for a while.)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago) link

Nothing really, she swore off sex with him.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:30 (twenty years ago) link

This episode sucked. I wanted a big, rollicking wedding smash-up!

I liked the Jem song, strangely.

I'm finding the adults much, MUCH more interesting than the kids at this point. I hope the next season is mainly about them.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago) link

damn it. i missed last night's finale due to cinco de mayo margarita excess. sounds like a lot happened in 60 minutes. i heard something about this seth sailing away thing... what's up with that? if my boyfriend is leaving the show, then i'm going to be very unhappy.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:03 (twenty years ago) link

that JEff Buckley rendition of Hallelujah is godsend. One of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard. then again, I love the entire album anyway.

uh (eetface), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:04 (twenty years ago) link

album as in, Grace, not O.C. soundtrack :)

uh (eetface), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:04 (twenty years ago) link

It'll be cool when he returns all muscly and tanned and bearded and rock-eating insane and Summer's all like "muy macho" and he's like "SAY WILSON MY BEST FRIEND SOCCER BALL, WHAT SAY YE?".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:06 (twenty years ago) link

jeff buckley hallelujah used in this show reeks of unearned pathos

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago) link

they earned it pal!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago) link

i will die if anything happens to seth! oh, god... the thought of it makes me shudder.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:08 (twenty years ago) link

maybe he's going to become a pirate!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:10 (twenty years ago) link

I might actually watch the O.c. next season, since Angel will be no more.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:13 (twenty years ago) link

Okay, so I watched this last night and WOW did it suck gigantic moose nuts! Why is the "tough guy" the wimpiest thing on television since Wimpy? Why is his romantic interest an escaped animatronic doll from "It's A Small World After All"? Why is the "girl" he knocked up played by a 45-year-old drag queen? Why is Peter Gallagher played by a 65-year-old drag queen? Is there anyone on the show who shouldn't get beaten with bricks?

I am never watching this again (until the reruns start).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:17 (twenty years ago) link

Is there anyone on the show who shouldn't get beaten with bricks?

On that front, the depiction of many OC people is refreshingly realistic.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago) link

I liked the Jem song, strangely.

TRULY OUTRAGEOUS etc etc.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago) link

You picked the worst possible episode to watch, Dan!

morris pavilion (samjeff), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago) link

seriously

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago) link

Huh. I think I've seen 1 1/2 episodes. I missed last night's because I was too busy watching the silly BEHIND FRIENDS 2-hour long episode during which I faked crying and stared at the TV as though as though I was watching it all ironicly.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:01 (twenty years ago) link

Okay, so I watched this last night and WOW did it suck gigantic moose nuts!

For reals. What a gross let-down. And the end scene of Seth Cohen sailing away on his dinghy into the sunset??? What the fuck? It was Dynasty bad.

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:41 (twenty years ago) link

For a second it looked like he was on a windsurfer; just how far does he plan to get on "Endless Summer."

And he really dissed Summer when he told her that she wouldn't be enough for him if farmboy wasn't around. She was trying to be supportive, "we'll get through this," and he was all, "I just need to be alone right now."

It will serve him right if they go DC style and she takes up photography when he's gone and makes a new life for herself with the ones who were left behind.

Why does Marissa have to live with Mommie now? She actually looked a tiny but closer to normal last episode--I think it was the low shoes and dorky cropped pants they had on her.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

Is Marissa the animatronic Fembot?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, Pretty much, Dan. She is painfully skinny.

Yeah, I'm jealous.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago) link

I forgot to mention I'm hooked on this show. I can't believe I only started watching it now. Oh, all the wasted hours I could've been watching this!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:49 (twenty years ago) link

Complicating matters is that I think this show sucks.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago) link

she has to live with mommy because stepdad threatened to ruin her father if she didn't. although with stepdad's legal problems now I don't see how he has any leverage.
