i'm fascinated by this wwII thing on wttw. i just watched some old dude basically have a ptsd episode then exhibit some of the darkest gallows humor ever.
this is probably someone's grandpa.
― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)
h'mmm i have never heard of this baroness but i'm intrigued.
again, because i am bored. also, because $LADY appears to be busy tonight.
― river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 03:37 (eighteen years ago)
or i could just write 10 more BJ songs.
yeah, since i've been reading this thread regularly, both jenny and jesse have landed cool jobs. so maybe this thread is magic!
i haven't met evan, but surely there's something the three of us could start up that would make some money using our 'unique skill set'. let's think up ideas that we can get venture capitalist suckers to invest in!
p.s. congrats jenny! do you like shoes? i used to shop at the payless in the thompson center a lot, it's pretty big. which i'm sure was the main criterion for your decision to work there.
― colette, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 03:58 (eighteen years ago)
congrats jenny! also, basil and mint infused grain alcohol is magic. perhaps a bad kind of magic on a monday night, but magic nonetheless.
― sisut, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 06:24 (eighteen years ago)
Oh that does sound like magic. What did you do with it?
Katie? Katie???
― Jesse, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)
ps THUNDERSTORMS TODAY FUCK YEAH
― river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)
That Baroness is a pretty good album, but High On Fire's new one is better I think.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)
I only listened to the Baroness album once through but it seemed really thin-sounding, maybe since they're playing dual leads so often. I need to listen to High on Fire again.

My mother recently had my grandfather's Bronze Star framed, along with his commendation. He got the star for bravery and "operating a radio for two days without relief" during WWII. I asked him what it was like to operate a radio for two days without relief and he said, "Well, I imagine I got pretty hungry."
Colette, I am pretty utilitarian when it comes to shoes, but I like looking at shoes that I would never wear myself. For example, I would like someone whose feet I see on a regular basis to have these:

I do like going into Payless, though. And I recently went into the Dress Barn at the T Center, which is the dumbest name for a women's clothing store ever.
― Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)
I always want to moooooo when I see a Dress Barn.

speaking of farm-related things, check out Wikipedia's entry re. poultry farms!!
Poultry farms
Poultry farming is the exploitation of chickens, turkeys, ducks, or any other slave animal, generally for meat or eggs. All animal farms exist under the paradigm of speciesism.

I'm only a couple blocks away from the Thompson Center. Let's do lunch!
― jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)
Let's all do lunch sometime. I'm 10 min away on the Blue line and I'm downtown a lot.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)
I did my very first Wikipedia edit.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)
Is the Thompson Center the weird building where the Clark and Lake stop is?
― n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, is that what that building looks like?
― dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
They're cool pics.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)
I am basically 20 miles from the Thompson Center. I will not be meeting you all for lunch any time soon.
John, are you still thinking about pub trivia tonight?
― n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)
So I had a nummy leftover egg, bacon and tomato sandwich in my bag when I got home yesterday, and failed to refrigerate it. A little before midnight, I decided it was still probably fine to eat. I was mistaken.
And that's all for this installment of News of the Unrefrigerated.

LOLZ
So I've been mistakenly added to an e-mail thread of some dudes planning a ski trip. I have no idea who they are, but I do have a pretty simple gmail address so I'm sure it's just a random mistake. Funniest one (in a discussion of where to ski and where to stay):
"Pro
Aspen has better pussy
Con
Im married...for now
Regards,
H0w4rd Dv0rkin"
― Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)
What should I do? I'm leaning towards sending an e-mail to all of them to say "I don't know you people." Or should I try to convince them of the merits of the pussy in Park City, UT?
― Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)
you know what's really good in Aspen? The ass.
― kenan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)
I say you jump in on the conversation and just not sign the emails. Maybe you'll find out who they think you are.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)
the thing is, he's right.
― river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)
Apparently the pussy guy is this guy:

...insofar as that there are actually WOMEN in Aspen. and they're all Australian (goers) or S American (pretty!) or S African (go to hell!)
See how far you can go with this. Join them on the slopes.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)
and they all do coke
― river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)
although, for gay ski week, Aspen becomes a brotal sausage fest.
Australian (goers)
:)
I hear this is true.
― kenan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)
Your message has been sent
"I'm in! Btw, who are you people??"
― Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)
hahaha
― KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)
mmm... ski weekends with a big bag of coke and Aussie lasses who hardly bothered to put clothes on. Those were the good times. The halcyon days, if you will.
― kenan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)
You should've convinced them to go during gay week!
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)
Those dudes are dicks if they don't let you come along now.
― dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

Wrigley Fields was born Sept. 12 at LaPorte Hospital and into a family of devoted Cubs fans.
― n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
Wrigley looks like wrinkly, not that it wasn't already a weird name.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
They must've taken a cue from these people...

Work is boring today. Our internet is being dumb.
― n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)
I spent forever on the phone with tech support at home and my DSL still isn't working. Stupid.
Ski bros update: one guy e-mailed and asked to be taken out of the e-mail loop (interesting), and another went on planning accommodations like nothing happened. If this is some sort of scam I can't see it.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)
Am I lame if I postpone again? All I can think about this week is packing/moving.
