iPhone apps S/D

Apparently Firmware 2.1 breaks the current version of Last.fm, but there's going to have an upgrade available in less than a week.

Does anyone else have an intermittent problem with the screen not rotating in Safari? Mine still does it in 2.1.

k, apparently the accelerometer can't get an accurate reading when you're walking, which DER FREDDIE makes sense.

Did any of you have to upgrade to iTunes 8.0 by chance? I tried to sync the phone last night, but iTunes crashed, and I got a pop-up IE window from Microsoft support (lol) saying i had to upgrade to the latest iTunes. Once I did, it was fine, but no one mentioned it here, so I assume either everything either already had iTunes 8.0 or I was an unlucky with the random crash.

The most annoying thing about launching iTunes 8.0 for the first time is that it defaults to the thumbnail view of your music database first, which means you have to wait the hour or so for iTunes to grab *all* the album artwork before you can even switch to the original list view, which is all I care for anyway.

Also, Genius Sidebar? Apple's attempt at their own last.fm? (I didn't mean to turn it on.)

After all that shit, the firmware 2.1 thing worked out. No problems thus far.

If you're on Mac, go into terminal and type

defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

Haha. Functionally it's fine, but the algorithm needs some time/work to produce effective matches.

Does it log what you've played a la last.fm?

I know others like recommendations, but I find auto-recommendations mostly useless. :/

I went to the Apple store today and got a fresh iPhone since mine had one of those little cracks in it. Went well.

so. upgraded to 2.1 ... and the backup during the first sync took longer than ever before.

Do another. Mine's dead quick now.

Backup times seem to be proportional to the amount of "stuff" that occurs on your iPhone since the last sync. What "stuff" takes longer than not is the question. Otherwise, it's better to backup often than never, especially for appaddicts like myself, so get used to it or get something else instead.

Backup stuff is explained here. What it backed up pre 2.1 was different to what it backs up now, post 2.1.

my iphone is still essentially broken when it comes to updating or installing new apps. really fucking annoying.

GymGoal Lite is fantastic. It provides detailed descriptions of just about every weights exercise you can think of, including correct techniques and pictures. It also offers a load of workout programmes based on your selection (days in a split, weights/pulleys, etc.) and gives you a log to record it all in. Now that both my trainers are completely unreliable and shit I will give this a try.

the Yelp update is good. i was about to delete it off my phone until the update fixed everything i hated about it. well, everything except for the people who write reviews on it.

I with they would implement folders on here. I'd like an area where i can stick specific document-related apps. For example, they have e-books as individual apps, also stuff like the American Constitution, Decl. of Indepedence, various Bibles, the Qur'an, etc.

Call it something like iBookshelf or whatevers.

Because providers would be irritated by the additional huge data use, 3g is slow and unreliable for large file transfers, and it eats battery?
