I appreciate the boxing fandom on ILX but every time this thread gets bumped I admit I always hope it's news on May/Pac. Fight's got to happen but damn it's taking long enough.

BLOOMPS 2012 (rip van wanko), Saturday, 12 March 2011 14:45 (fifteen years ago)

will never happen imo.

he actually took the crown off after he learned Williams wasn't dead, as it was the crown for becoming King of Killing Paul Williams

williams is a fairly welsh name, i suppose?

Dzinziruk probably has the best jab in boxing, interesting to see how Sergio adjusts to that.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 12 March 2011 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

opening bout, Lee vs. McEwan here (which announcers keep pointing out is stylistically Freddie Roach vs. Kronk Gym, which is kinda cool), is good action

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 13 March 2011 03:52 (fifteen years ago)

I almost started a Freddie Roach appreciation thread a week or so ago. He's my chosen successor to Fred (Mr.) Rogers as my Real American Hero. Somethin about those Freds.

BLOOMPS 2012 (rip van wanko), Sunday, 13 March 2011 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

holy crap what a come-from-behind performance by Lee! 10th round KO!

decided to stream cotto/mayorga. I really don't know anything about them, but cotto looks like a clearly superior fighter to me

for real molars who ain't got no fillings (Hurting 2), Sunday, 13 March 2011 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

Sergio. Fucking. Martinez. That's two sensational performances in a row. At 35/36. This dude is so goddamn exciting to watch, that hands-at-waist stalking stance...great night of fights on HBO.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 13 March 2011 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

Pirog is the only guy I see having a chance against him at middleweight.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 March 2011 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

Kirkland would make for an interesting fight. But Martinez is in his own zone right now. That stance he fights from is just so instantly exciting. None of this cruise-control-until-shit-gets-heavy garbage. Want to write him fan letters to thank him for not fighting like an asshole. But both HBO fights were great tonight! Caught those instead of Cotto-Mayorga, did anybody catch that one?

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 13 March 2011 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

Watching the Martinez fight just now. The guy is oozing class and confidence. Dzinziruk comes out all "I'm taking this fight to you and closing down the ring" and Martinez is delighted with it.

lol @ Dzinziruk's corner - he's still dizzy from a 5th round knockdown and they're telling him he won the round.

on... imo (onimo), Sunday, 13 March 2011 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

Did anyone see Ricky Burns' defence last night? Looks like a nothing fight from the reports - ended on an injury retirement - not quite the big showcase he was looking for.

on... imo (onimo), Sunday, 13 March 2011 13:13 (fifteen years ago)

Finish from Martinez was amazing - he'd spent a round or two taking a lot of shots and it looked like Dzinziruk was getting back into it. Martinez looks to have just decided it was time to take him out before the fight really turned.

on... imo (onimo), Sunday, 13 March 2011 13:15 (fifteen years ago)

They're rebroadcasting this right now and I'm watching it again, because I enjoy watching Martinez fight so much.

Smoker is a great ref, too. He should get a manager working his name out there -- Mills Lane managed to get enough PR to parlay his ref job into more work, and this guy's fantastic

one month passes...

Darchinyan looking very, very mean vs. Perez in round 1

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 24 April 2011 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

Darchinyan showboating in round 5, evidently running the fight but looking like a real asshole

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 24 April 2011 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

Wow these odds:

Manny Pacquiao - KO or TKO or Disqualification 4/6
Manny Pacquiao - Decision or Technical Decision 6/4
Shane Mosley - KO or TKO or Disqualification 9/1
Shane Mosley - Decision or Technical Decision 25/1
Draw or Technical Draw 50/1

ruingin (rip van wanko), Saturday, 7 May 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

is the "Anticipating Manny vs. Mayweather" part of the thread title meant to be read as a sick joke at this point

cum dude (Princess TamTam), Saturday, 7 May 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

Shane looked 1) in amazing shape and 2) remarkably composed, even for him, during interviews at last night's Friday Night Fights card. Interesting, because I've seen him at ringside grabbing mic time where he seems kinda desperate and unconvincing, but honestly he looks to have had a great camp.

That said, Pacquiao in 9.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 7 May 2011 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

man naseem richardson is such an intense individual

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 7 May 2011 23:54 (fifteen years ago)

paquiao in 7.I like mosely-at age 29. Mayweather still a fucking pussy.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Sunday, 8 May 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

I think Pac in rounds 4-6. You have to move your head against Pac or you end up like Maragrito (best case) or Hatton (not best case).

ruingin (rip van wanko), Sunday, 8 May 2011 00:28 (fifteen years ago)

countdown announcer just gave out a top-five dumbest things ever said in sports hype line: "when champion manny pacquiao is in town, the playbook doesn't just go out the window; it simply doesn't exist."

this is a verbatim fucking quote.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 00:35 (fifteen years ago)

that is incredibly dumb. what is the implication, you just streetfight pacquiao? riiight.

ruingin (rip van wanko), Sunday, 8 May 2011 00:39 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it's completely ahistorical. if anything, Pacquiao is a more classic coming-forward fighter than anything else; he'd be fightable if it weren't for his ridiculous heart. but the boxing establishment needs to make hay while the sun shines so they're making all manner of claims about it. which, to be fair, he's easily the most exciting fighter since Tyson, so you can't blame 'em.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'll take Pac on a TKO in 8.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 03:04 (fifteen years ago)

vasquez jr. v. arce was a completely fantastic undercard fight fyi

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

opening of the 12th round was a moment of real beauty, too - the fighters touched gloves but then really spontaneously just looked at each other & embraced in the middle of the ring - beautiful, beautiful fight

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 03:29 (fifteen years ago)

epic by all accounts, can't wait to see it

ruingin (rip van wanko), Sunday, 8 May 2011 03:43 (fifteen years ago)

fuckin Christ the amount of in-the-ring stuff before the fight is ridiculous. I'm not going to cover the fight on thread, I'm just gonna watch the fight, but...both "Star-Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful" (the latter sung, beautifully I should say, by Jaime Foxx)? C'mon. One anthem per side please.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 8 May 2011 03:45 (fifteen years ago)

holy fuck tho LL is doing "Mama Said Knock You Out" for Shane's ring walk and it is fucking electrifying. Hope somebody uploads it somewhere because he's killing it

The problem with following fights online

(12:15pm) Round 3 - Pacquiao's speed forces Mosley to back-pedal. Pacquiao decks Mosley with a left straight to the face. A lopsided round for Manny. Pacquiao 10-8

------------------------------------------------------

Round 3. They trade straight power shots to the midsection in the first minute. Pacquiao gets in two lefts that back Mosley up. Pacquiao drops Mosley with a right hook with a minute to go. Mosley gets up at "six." Pacquiao measures Mosley for his straight left, but the 39-year-old vet holds on to clear his head and run out the clock. (Pacquiao's round, 10-8)

ruingin (rip van wanko), Sunday, 8 May 2011 04:19 (fifteen years ago)

Weird fight. Neither guy real aggrerssive. Vasquez-arce fight was fantastic, too bad the guys father threw the towel in.

I disagree with the posts above-ll cool j and the plastic surgery disaster in pacs corner singing the guys into the ring was supremely cheesy.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Sunday, 8 May 2011 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

jesus louise finally some energy in the 10th

how many punches has mosley even landed? like, two?

del griffith, Sunday, 8 May 2011 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

Wondering if pac is dogging it to bait mayweather into taking his skirt off. Just got knocked down

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Sunday, 8 May 2011 04:44 (fifteen years ago)

Mosely has done nothing. A lame performance.
