holy shit I leave this thread alone for an hour and it turns into crazytown usa.

I sat through 1 episode of 2 And a Half Men (100% bc of Jon Cryer nostalgia and nothing more) and wanted to shoot myself in the face. I even considered giving it another shot bc of Chuck Lorre being the Big Bang Theory dude also, and every time the thought crossed my mind I remembered the sadness and abstained.

i do think they're not giving him enough to do yet, but i have faith. also i love him. (adam scott, i mean)

I want Adam Scott to be hilarious on this show, but he's just not. More the writers struggling with what to do with him than anything else, but it is disappointing.

I thought he was pretty hilarious in the episode where he was getting steamrollered by local media re: his teenage mayorship

yeah that teenage mayor meltdown stuff was pretty great, and at risk of bringing up more long 'i don't get it' discussions, I loved the calzone stuff too

I still think that the Adam Scott thing has been building up to him being super friendly and eager to be with these people all the time now that they've shown they actually do know him (ex. buying his favorite beer). He's been consciously distant, but now he knows he has friends in Pawnee.

i can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. i've been lukewarm on P&R and cap'n-save-a-lorre many times before!

while it's kind of trollish (and obnoxious) of some dude to say it's a "better" show, I can understand someone preferring the traditional zing-style sitcom jokes on Two & a Half to P&R's more character-driven humor. I have many friends who find P&R boring as shit, and there's really nothing I can do to convince anybody otherwise.

just wanted to point out that all the s3 episodes we've seen so far were written and filmed directly after s2 ended, so we're coming up on the actual newly filmed stuff when the show returns from its break. given that they came up with adam scott's character arc after they'd already done like 20 episodes in a row, i don't mind that it ended up a little slapdash. the overall episodes were still very good.

Good point re shooting schedule, it's not terribly fair to judge s3 on the basis of the run of episodes to date. Also we'll start seeing Leslie's waist again.

Look, business-wise it makes a lot of sense. Two and a Half Men is a money-printing machine; Lowe would probably multiply his paycheck many times over. Furthermore, the producers of that show are gonna be looking for a likable, uncontroversial guy to replace the volatile and batshit-crazy Sheen, and there are few actors out there more likable than Rob Lowe.

Yeah, that was 1988. Half of P&R's audience wasn't even born then.

i did raise my eyebrow a little at "uncontroversial" too. also Lowe's had other issues involving sexual harassment accusations from nannies, and left 2 shows in the middle of their runs in the past decade because he wasn't happy with the writing or how much screentime he was getting.

I will happily stan for this show--it's got the rare combination of being very funny and very charming. It appeals to my good nature.
