my phone is much more functional now that its jailbroken, proper notifications, proper multi-tasking...much more usable not that its not a glorified touch.

plus the ability to have more than 8 items in a folder.

Oh man, I agree that third-party extensions may have better notifications and such, but your phone UI looks like straight-up cluttered ass to me, man.

haha, i like it that way. a lot of people go for the minimalistic approach on the home screen huh? For someone who is OCD, i need it this way.

I am crazy as shit but I just end up with messiness everywhere so I appreciate things being minimal and clean as hell on my phone

and the clutter to me is organized. my wife has got things all out of folders all over pages, drives me batshit.

I recently put tons of stuff in folders but I find clicking on a folder then clicking on an app not much better than swiping quickly 2 pages to get to an app, so I've gone back to a hybrid where all the stuff I use regular gets it's own page, and less common stuff is grouped into folders.

hmm...yes that does make sense.

I think of it like that study about people with messy desks being organized, because everything is piled up in sight and they know where it is and it's sorted by how recent it is and not filed away all organized and alphabetized. Somehow I know that I just swipe over 2 screens to get to the stuff I want to read, but if I want a remote control for my audio software I go digging in the music folder.

Oh man, I didn't mean to harsh your theme choice, but I mostly thought the theme wasn't really to my taste and the lock screen looked crowded.

Like I can't figure out why it's showing anything at all when you don't have a SMS, Mail message, or Missed call.

ah see i like my lock screen that way, plus it helps for work. ive been playing around with themes a lot, there aren't very many nice ones for a 3gs. and im also testing out that plug-in for notifications...typically i use intelliscreen which only puts stuff on the lockscreen when i have some things.

i love this lockscreen design, just too much work.

Yeah, I saw that one a while back and was kind of impressed. I'm also on a 3gs, but just don't care enough to fuck with jailbreaking and installing extra shit.

jailbreaking literally took all of 3 minutes.

the main reason i jailbroke it was for BiteSms, which has quick reply, which is fucking great.

They keep up on new versions pretty quickly these days, right? I just didn't care to keep up on what had/hadn't been jailbroken, etc.

I've also had iOS 4.3 installed for a while now and am too attached to the new streaming.

chris i think your first screen was fine and quite neat. Id move the folders to the bottom of the page but thats just me. I like your icons. It doesnt look like a toddler who has been eating crayons all day puked on your screen like mine does.

why doesn't he just use airplane mode when he's being important cant be interrupted guy on his iphone? (xp)

i think the idea is to make something that works better or you know just works - airplane mode or jailbreak customizations or w/e are hacky approaches that should ideally be unnecessary

I don't jailbreak mine because I like my phone to be reliable and work and etc BUT as a decades-old Linux fanboy I love that jailbreaking exists and that it's come so far and continues to keep up. All of this screenshots make me quiver iirc.

I'd be down with that notification scheme. Better then the webOS-esque one everyone was blogging about a week or two ago.

yeah that mobilenotifier thing didn't work with bitesms, so i got rid of it.

xp The one that shares a screen with Spotlight? Yeah, it's the only one I've seen so far that isn't shithouse in some way (and even then the initial pop-up bar at the bottom is horrible).

I'm still a bit weird about iphone jailbreaking because I've had friends who would have to restart their phones twice a day.

IMO using the screen real estate available when you pull up the running apps bar would be pretty sweet.

never have had to restart, plus now there are on the fly backups so if it does crash, it restarts with everything intact.

Re notifications: anything that blocks a row of home buttons is out. I don't know why people are even mocking up that shit.

I had an iPod touch that I used for approximately one more day after getting an iPhone because IT'S THE SAME DEVICE.

I can kind of understand people who carry around an iPod Classic or whatever since it has a much higher capacity, but even then, it seems kind of ridiculous to me.

64gb would be a great size for me; wld let me carry around my main iTunes music library (w/out videos etc).
