think carra went in over the ball *and* shinguards tbh - looked like he caught him almost on the knee

Yeah, very cuntish. And actually kind of pointless - Liverpool were already two-nil up and well in control, it's not as if Nani and Carragher were involved in some kind of grudge match, it's not as if Nani had just fouled someone (in fact, he'd just gifted Liverpool a goal, so Carragher should have been shaking him by the hand), it's not even as if he was in a dangerous position.

that was fantastic from suarez. just fantastic

Yep. That was good.

WAYNE ROONEY ELBOW STORM (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 6 March 2011 22:43 (fifteen years ago)

Carragh's challenge was def red card-worthy, can't believe the ref didn't apply the full letter of the law even tho he actually saw the incident, Fergie must be outraged at this omission

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

I heard he reckons you have to take the rough with the smooth, the ref did well in difficult circumstances, and these things even themselves out over the course of the season.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 7 March 2011 07:30 (fifteen years ago)

Seriously though, why is the headline this morning 'Ferguson snubs media'? It was the same on Wednesday. It's not like not getting an interview is hardly the most important thing to say about United atm.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 7 March 2011 08:39 (fifteen years ago)

It's not like

Ismael Klata, Monday, 7 March 2011 08:41 (fifteen years ago)

thought he was contractually obligated to talk to Sky, the cunt.

my theory in the pub at the time was that Nani went to hospital rather than get his bollocks kicked in at half time, cos the play-acting little twat had been stood up for a minute before he decided that he was really hurt

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 08:43 (fifteen years ago)

I know a guy who covers Chelsea for the local paper. I asked him if any hacks dared raise the notion that Ferguson was a bit of a hypocrite in the post-match conference on Tuesday after his comments regarding Clattenburg and Atkinson. He said that Ferguson hadn't turned up to a press conference at Stamford Bridge since 1999.

Ridiculous pro-English bias from Sky yesterday showing the Carragher tackle for as little time as possible and relaying the Rafael one over and over again.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 10:13 (fifteen years ago)

the rafael one that wasn't as bad, didn't make contact and was provoked itself by a pretty nasty foul?

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:20 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, maxi's preceding challenge was naughtier. Rafael's was minimal more by look than judgement tho. neither of them was a patch on Carra's yellow.

Rooney was absolute dogshit btw

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:23 (fifteen years ago)

more by luck than judgement, even

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:23 (fifteen years ago)

Finding it difficult to be too aggrieved with yesterday's game due to a) Bale being back and b) Defoe being back in the goals.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

Also Suarez = wau.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

yeah to all of that

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:39 (fifteen years ago)

Persisting with Jarvis when Hunt was fit is one of the many reasons why McCarthy out. For two teams that can't finish that wasn't a bad 6 goal game tho.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:39 (fifteen years ago)

Kuyt got Man of the Match didn't he? Total piss-take.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:40 (fifteen years ago)

Frank Arnesen takes 10 Chelsea scouts with him to HSV Hamburg

So who's going to scout the new Frank Lampard now?

La descente infernale (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:41 (fifteen years ago)

All three should've walked xp - ridiculous when Liverpool were dominant at the time. The Guardian compared Souness' outrage with this clip, which was fun:

Haven't watched Wolves much this season but I thought Jarvis looked pretty useful actually. Bit on the chunky side though.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 10:46 (fifteen years ago)

Also how will Chelsea cope without the man behind their revered youth system that has brought so many top-class kids through to the pinnacle of the English game?

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 10:47 (fifteen years ago)

yeah he did look like he was packing a bit.

Hard to look bad vs hutton.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:47 (fifteen years ago)

WHO SHOULDN'T'VE BEEN ON THE PITCH FOR THE LAST HOUR

Jarv's okay, but v. limited. Gotta love a left winger that has to cut back onto his right foot to cross the fecking ball. Hunt has started to click and is just the twice the player. Why the fuck he decided failed striker and failed full back Stephen "I'm useless" Ward was a good start for central midfield christ only knows.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 10:56 (fifteen years ago)

ekotto was less disastrous off the ball than usual, but worse going forward. I prefer him that way.

Hutton needs to be got gone. Appallingly bad player.

Jenas, it struck me yesterday, is somewhat unique- at full pace (and he is quick) his touch, passing and decisions are all much improved. While strolling or stationary, he can do fuck all to a decent level. Off the ball he's hopeless. Not worth even a squad place anymore.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:19 (fifteen years ago)

stating the obvious, maybe, but i'd have doyle off ye if yer selling. Twice the end product of crouch, just a rly good target man.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:21 (fifteen years ago)

Arnesen hasn't done as badly as people like to think given the state of the youth system he inherited and how difficult it is to forward plan with Chelsea's clusterfuck senior managerment. Not his fault that managers won't take risks on more than capable players like Scott Sinclair, Miroslav Stoch, Jeff Bruma and Jack Cork.

That Maxi tackle on Rafael didn't get a mention and it was a shocker. I quite like Rafeal, total headcase taking on Skrtl.

Suarez is a cross between Robbie Van Persie and Robbie Savage.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:21 (fifteen years ago)

So pleased for him to bag a couple yesterday. If we go down, he's way too good for the Championship.

We missed O'Hara yesterday.

Ekotto was very quick to the goal celebrations for a "full back", almost as if he was 50 yards out of position all the time.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:22 (fifteen years ago)

pleased for Doyler, obv.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:23 (fifteen years ago)

ekotto is a premier league level left winger tbh

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

gots to admire Mick's ambition in playing 4-5-1 at home, and you can see why he wouldn't want to be starting Seb on account of how he's boringly scored virtually every fucking time he's played this season.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:30 (fifteen years ago)

I think part of the rationale between having Pienaar and Ekotto playing together on the left is that Pienaar is defensive enough to cover when BAE bombs forward, which you can't really say about Kranjcar.

Very very harsh leaving Kranjcar on the bench when JJ is allowed on the field though.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 11:42 (fifteen years ago)

would have said it's harsh leavin niko on the bench when defoe starts tbr.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 11:50 (fifteen years ago)

Ridiculous pro-English bias from Sky yesterday showing the Carragher tackle for as little time as possible and relaying the Rafael one over and over again.

When was this? At half-time they basically said:

the rafael one wasn't as bad, didn't make contact and was provoked itself by a pretty nasty foul

Also:
That Maxi tackle on Rafael didn't get a mention
They were slagging that off as well as the Carragher one.

I'd agree with all of this:
yeah, maxi's preceding challenge was naughtier. Rafael's was minimal more by luck than judgement tho. neither of them was a patch on Carra's yellow.
Rooney was absolute dogshit btw

and this:
All three should've walked - ridiculous when Liverpool were dominant at the time

WAYNE ROONEY ELBOW STORM (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 7 March 2011 12:32 (fifteen years ago)

Berbatov was very unlucky not to get a brace yesterday though.

Matt DC, Monday, 7 March 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

think i read that it was motd played carragher's once but rafael's several times

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

Carra's was the worst but presumably Rafael didn't know Lucas was gonna jump out of the way when he launched himself at him.

we're back in business boys...we're back in business (pandemic), Monday, 7 March 2011 12:45 (fifteen years ago)

if only nani played for arsenal and carragher for stoke amirite

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Monday, 7 March 2011 12:59 (fifteen years ago)

neither good enough

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 7 March 2011 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

Nani's good enough for Arsenal, have you seen some of the players they do play?

Tom D (Tom D.), Monday, 7 March 2011 13:01 (fifteen years ago)

Don't think anybody will trot out the 'he's not that kind of player' line with Carragher.

Fergie has fielded two attacking line-ups in a week and got done very badly. Don't think he'll be trying that again for a while.

It's all come a bit late for this season and I still can't see anybody other than United winning the title, but next season could see six teams at the top of the table with very little to give between them.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Monday, 7 March 2011 13:11 (fifteen years ago)

Nani is the most productive player in the Premier League this season and he's not good enough for Arsenal?

Number None, Monday, 7 March 2011 13:13 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe that's the problem, the Arse not used to players actually being productive

Tom D (Tom D.), Monday, 7 March 2011 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

Fergie has fielded two attacking line-ups in a week and got done very badly. Don't think he'll be trying that again for a while.

I think not fielding a referee in the lineup was his mistake

Yawn

League table since 1st January, sorted on Points Per Game. Suggests Man U aren't exactly the lock for the title people here are saying - Liverpool much improved under Kenny - West Ham top half! - Blackpool sinking like stones.

I genuinely have no idea who's going to go down now. There are a lot of "play open attractive football and then get smashed" teams down there that could go either way.
