Well yeah, but they're both phone-styled communications that people think have some importance.

I think there should be a "don't notify on new text message" option, though. I think of email and facebook messages and so on as more deferred, but I guess for many, text messages are deferrable.

YES. Bloody thing needs to have a bar at the top or something (like the tethering bar) that says 'yu0 has a phoen call' that you can ignore.

Single best thing about ipads is that they don't do phone calls or texts therefore you can choose to be never interrupted by anything ever.

calls are real-time, text messages are turn based, pretty big diff I think

Yep. It's like people who send you an email then march over to your desk like 20 seconds later asking you why you haven't read it yet. If person A needs to speak to person B urgently why is person A sending a text ffs

texts are much faster and more to the point than calls

Schlafsack, have you considered just giving people a Google Voice number or whatever? I mean, it sounds like you don't give a shit about using your phone as a phone, and that lets you ignore most calls at your whim.

if i have an urgent message for someone why would i call that person, wait for the ring, exchange hellos, give them the information, etc

def, it makes much more sense to send them a text that probably gets shuttled to the background while the person is furiously engaged in playing angry birds

I have heard the youngs are getting thousands of text messages per day so it probably interrupts their angry birds and web browsing and suchwith, but I haven't had that prob yet.

I liked it much better when the iphone just displayed the text of the text on the unlock screen, I guess they changed it to better protect privacy but you shouldn't be sexting in the first place, is my position on that

you dont have to "find" text messages, your phone makes a noise, sometimes it vibrates as well

I'd use airplane mode but I'm playing networked Carcasonne ffs

If you're in wifi range, turn it on to airplane mode then turn wifi on. That way you can use Internet but not be interrupted by texts or calls.

just jailbreak your phones and you can have all the features you want.

my phone is much more functional now that its jailbroken, proper notifications, proper multi-tasking...much more usable not that its not a glorified touch.

plus the ability to have more than 8 items in a folder.

Oh man, I agree that third-party extensions may have better notifications and such, but your phone UI looks like straight-up cluttered ass to me, man.

haha, i like it that way. a lot of people go for the minimalistic approach on the home screen huh? For someone who is OCD, i need it this way.

I am crazy as shit but I just end up with messiness everywhere so I appreciate things being minimal and clean as hell on my phone

and the clutter to me is organized. my wife has got things all out of folders all over pages, drives me batshit.

i've farted around with different mimimalistic approaches to the home screen and i just felt that things i needed involved too much fucking around and flipping pages.

Reminds me of my chillout room at home, I don't have to look for any of the recent music/magazines/movies I've been fucking with because they're all right there on the floor
