Here's what I block:

• Tweets that are nothing more than replies to other tweets.
• People who offer links without explaining what their linking to. ("Oh, nothing more than a http://inwjt.us/234s? Let me at it!")
• Anyone who habitually makes more than six tweets in a given hour.
• Live tweeting sports or music events.

• Tweets that are nothing more than replies to other tweets.

When someone doesn't actually post anything, but only replies to other tweeters.

Ahhhh.

But you can't see replies in your dashboard!

(Unless you follow both people.)

I logged into twitter and I have no idea hoa all the @ and RT and circular ouroboros arrows work

If you click the retweet button, that tweet will show up for people who follow you (unless they have turned off retweets by you).

If you write "RT" manually, it will show up for everyone who follows you even if they've turned off retweets.

If you begin a tweet with @charliesheen, people will not see it in their feed unless they also follow @charliesheen.

If you do not begin a tweet with @, that tweet will show up in your feed for everyone who follows you.

He's using the // convention of RTing. Which is the same as our italic quoting -- the // splits the quote and the reply. Eg

I stopped following Twitter last year because it was getting boring. The only time it was half way interesting was when people would post photos or leak material.

yeah i was bitching about tumblr to someone else today and we both realised we were bitching about completely different things - sara was hating on the alt.twee photo tumblrs, i was hating on the #whitepeople opinions text tumblrs. both of us were right. i never saw the point in following photo tumblrs, myself.

I don't really bother w/fashion magazines anymore so it's a nice way to see Vogue/Elle etc.

A lot of the meme-related postings are annoying/infuriating though.

There's a pseudo-convention of beginning a tweet with ".@" if you want your reply to be seen by your followers. e.g. .@charliesheen if you want everyone to see it - not just people that follow you and @charliesheen

I had to unfollow someone whose every reply was an old-style retweet, e.g.:

I don't mind people who do the '.@' thing, but most of who I follow only do it for stuff like serious political debate that I find interesting
