Ramires: The biggest waste of money this season?
I know everything this dude says turns out to be wrong immediately after he says it, but Ramires looked pretty useful in the second half.
Worried about Chelsea's midfield apparently having gelled now, this should make them a lock for the top four now. Bad day for Spurs fans.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 22:33 (fifteen years ago)
fuckin hell fellaini out for season?
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 22:34 (fifteen years ago)
ramires was overpriced by about 40%, but he is a potentially useful utility player....can play across the midfield and i'd guess could fill in a fullback
agree about the implications for spurs, but essien's touch still looks rusty
― they will have been disappointed not to have been (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)
ramires has looked like a very useful player who doesn't fit chelsea so far.
i remember that were malouda for a full season that were one time
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 22:36 (fifteen years ago)
spurs have not rly been 'at it' since a good while before christmas, though i've been pleasantly surprised by our ability to churn out results from poor performances.
could see them FINALLY getting kaká or a similar attacking midfielder in the summer, which would give ramires the chance to emulate the great darren fletcher as a sort of sub-gattuso scrappy hacky midfield terrier
the new brazil manager seems to be planning for a defensive midfield fulcrum of ramires and lucas

first game i've watched ramires at chelsea and been impressed tho, i have to say. (/didn't actually watch any of their games at the start of the season when they destroyed teams)
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 23:22 (fifteen years ago)
Luis is an entertaining addition to the premiership. Should have been sent off yeah, but Chelsea went for it for the entire second half and deserved the the win. Really refreshing to have a hyped up game actually be a good watch but maybe that's cos Chelsea aren't in the title race?

So you couldnt live among permanently constipated english peoples.David Luiz has a tremendous potential to transgress into the best defender in the world and i see him there in no more than 2 years.

What's that phenomenon called in American politics where the paradigm has been shifted so far to the right via the use of frequently repeated distortion and lies in the cause of making the most unacceptable bullshit seem plausible?
That's Ferguson in a nutshell.
― James Mitchell, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 08:27 (fifteen years ago)
That was fun. Luiz is great - fine defender, scored an excellent goal, battered Rooney and wound up Ferguson - what's not to like? Great hair too.Ramires is a superb player, incredible energy, very clever, strong, quick and very good technique. Best CFC player of 2011 and would walk into any midfield in the country. Worth every penny we paid, trust me on that.Drogba's injury-time baiting of Sir Ryan was probably my favourite five minutes of the season. DD was immense - even kissed his badge. Love him.Penalty looked soft from where I was at the time - nobody near me thought it was. Didn't see Luiz's take outs. Saw some dives by Rooney in first half, so maybe the ref thought he was on the con again. Wonderful to see United leaving the Bridge as an ill-disciplined ref-blaming rabble again.

Yeah the last five mins was amazing. Initially thought badly of Chelsea for not trying to score a third from those free kicks, but then it became very funny.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 08:38 (fifteen years ago)
Not sure about this - United bossed the first half. We had the best chances either side of Rooney's (brilliant) goal, and although United had a brilliant 20-minute spell in the middle of the half, we began and ended it stronger. That said, at half time nobody expected us to get more than a point at best.
― isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 08:39 (fifteen years ago)
x-postDrogba wasted four minutes single-handedly, got Giggs booked and Vidic sent off and nearly set up a couple of goals. Injury time is usually panic nail-biting, but this was just pure fun.
― isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 08:41 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah I love those rare one goal lead injury times where your team just keeps threatening to score again or just easily runs down the clock.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 08:43 (fifteen years ago)
Just caught up on the game this morning. Luiz looked good but also like he was out of position about a dozen times or so but I guess the positives outweigh the negatives. Ramires was v good and Essien looked like Essien for a change.
― Paulo Odd Futre (pandemic), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 12:04 (fifteen years ago)
ramires and essien worked very well indeed together.
There goes 4th.

He does it most games I think - there were stories up here that he'd been asked not to do so at Ibrox (no idea if they're true).

Really refreshing to have a hyped up game actually be a good watch but maybe that's cos Chelsea aren't in the title race?
Yeah, I think there's something in this. Usually in recent seasons United and Chelsea will have been battling it out for the title and both teams would be relatively happy with a draw because at least it means the other team haven't gained any advantage. But last night a draw wouldn't have suited either team: United needed the points to keep ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea needed them in the battle against City/Spurs.
― WAYNE ROONEY ELBOW STORM (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 19:31 (fifteen years ago)
I really thought United would play for a draw, it would have been a decent result. Very surprised how attacking Fergie's line-up was, and think that worked in our favour eventually, because we have really struggled against defensive teams. Still slightly staggered that CA has won a tactical battle (partly cos it was largely chaotic) AND made match-winning substitutions.
The game at Old Trafford last year was pretty good but this was the best since the late Ballack penalty in, what, 2008?

Even if a draw is a decent result (in the sense that it's difficult (or used to be) to get a point at Stamford Bridge), it's a bad result if it potentially leaves Arsenal two points closer. There's not much difference between getting a point and getting no points. I would much rather see United go all out for the three points and potentially end up with nothing, than play for a draw.
I really can't remember much about it, apart from the goals. The Joe Cole one was good, the Drogba one was well offside and obviously so to anyone other than the linesman, and the Macheda one probably involved a handball, so it should have been 1-0 to Chelsea. I can't remember a Ballack penalty - must have wiped it from my mind, there have been so many defeats to Chelsea. Is that the game where Rooney was gifted an equaliser?

X-post Yeah, that was the one. Carvalho took s free kick and gave it straight to Rooney. Utterly bizarre. Then Carrick handball in last five mins, and Ballack scored.
Take your point on United needing the win. Haven't looked that far up the table for so long I had no idea it was so close. In my head United are 15 points clear of us, and we are second as usual.
