Guess which foul-mouthed senile red-nosed old drunk said the following:

"There is nothing in it. But what will happen, because it is Wayne Rooney, the press will raise a campaign to get him hung by Tuesday or electrocuted or something like that.

"It is unbelievable. Watch the press. It will be interesting to see it."

À la recherche du temps Pardew (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 27 February 2011 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

Parker's goal as good a strike as you'll see all season.

Number None, Sunday, 27 February 2011 14:20 (fifteen years ago)

Andy Carroll is too fat to play, apparently:

so then, another routine, by-the-numbers weekend of mundane football

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 27 February 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)

Liverpool were rotten today, West Ham well worth the win and could easily have had one or two more without being unduly flattered. They were good, well-organised and up for every fifty-fifty, which Liverpool were frankly not. Parker's goal was lovely and played out right in front of us - it looked he was totally off-balance and could only prod weakly goalwards, and it was a real surprise to realise midway through its arc that Reina could do nothing about it and it was heading in.

  • Carragher - his little fouls are so blatant, it's amazing he gets away with them! A high ball will be hanging in the air and you look down and see him and Cole or Piquionne get together waiting for it to drop, then as it does, exactly at the moment you'd expect him to Carragher leans on him and gives a little push. It's comical how clear it is, and why the ref and linesman don't see it that way I have no idea.
  • Wilson - was awful, kept giving it away. I thought it was Agger for the first twenty mins and couldn't understand what had happened to him.
  • Meireles - has a habit of pulling out of 49/51s. No doubt sensible and good for his ankles, but must have contributed to West Ham getting their edge.
  • Gerrard - had a terrible game, his distribution (short and Hollywood) was woeful 'til late on. That said, he's so busy he totally makes them tick, like a fast, erratic Pirlo, which is not entirely a good thing.
  • Kuyt - was just dreadful. Every time he needed to deliver quickly he took an extra touch; every time he had time, he put in an awful first-time cross.
  • Suarez - his going to ground looks terrible and he'll quickly pick up a reputation for diving. I don't think he had a particularly good game but he's the real deal I think, there were a few times where in a flash he suddenly had yards of space, like he was the only one moving.
West Ham had a fun call-and-response song going which sounded really cool. Does anyone know what it was? A woman (really quiet) leads the song then the crowd join in on the response line. They tried 'Twist and Shout' next, but it didn't work quite as well.

Catering report: pie & mash WITH LIQUOR at a caff near the ground. Pretty damn tasty, even if liquor is an oddly watery concoction. I dread to think what's in it. The owner was very like James Corden, which actually pleased me, and added meaningfully to the experience somehow.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 28 February 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

I was just about to come on here and ask you for a match report! Spot on in your assessment. We were poor, but thankfully, so far, poor performances have been the exception under Kenny. And while we did resort to hoofing on a few occasions, we did at least try to take the game to West Ham. Thought we were pretty comfortable until the first goal, and still felt we could get a draw even at 2-0. Lucas was great. Don't think Carragher should be first choice CB next season.

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Monday, 28 February 2011 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

Though first few performances and the odd since have been v mixed under kenny tbh.

Parker. Such a pity he chose Chelsea over us. Such a pity he's had such injuries. Such a pity the only debate on england's centre throughout his career has been gerrard vs lampard

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 28 February 2011 01:00 (fifteen years ago)

RIP Dean Richards. He was imperious at the start of his Spurs career and then got rapidly worse for reasons that are obvious now. I feel bad for giving him quite a bit of stick over his last season or two now.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 February 2011 10:09 (fifteen years ago)

Hadn't heard. Rip. Always seemed a nice bloke off the pitch.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 28 February 2011 10:22 (fifteen years ago)

Kinda left Wolves under a cloud and didn't endear himself after he left, but when he was good he was very very good, and no doubt worth what was paid for him. RIP

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 28 February 2011 12:00 (fifteen years ago)

Liverpool haven't really played well since their Cup final, the Torres game.

Liquor is basically parsley, flour, butter and water.

Going to the Bridge tomorrow. Doubt my 100 per cent record for the season will hold up.

The last few games v Man Utd at the Bridge have been horrible matches. Fletcher, Evra and Ferdinand have between them attacked us, each other, the ref, a steward and the groundsman. Ball boys better watch out.

If United come for a win, they'll definitely get it, but they'll probably come for a draw. They'll still get the win but it will be slightly more depressing.

Another big loss for the Gunners:

Premier League football club Arsenal recorded a £2.5m ($4m) loss in the half year to December 2010, largely on the back of reduced player revenues.

There were no major player sales in summer 2010, unlike in previous years when the club made a big-name sale.

The loss contrasts with a £29.2m profit in the corresponding period a year earlier.

James Mitchell, Monday, 28 February 2011 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

No bonus for Wenger this year...

Wouldn't worry, they'll be making a £28m profit next season when the Fabregas sale goes through.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 February 2011 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

Also they have a production line of the Best Young Players In The World which will no doubt bring financial rewards... unless they all end up palying for West Brom or whatever

Tom D (Tom D.), Monday, 28 February 2011 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

Then again, the next six month period will include a bunch more home games at £3mn in revenue per match.

James Mitchell, Monday, 28 February 2011 13:21 (fifteen years ago)

his haircut annoys me more than his shitness.

Birmingham City's Carling Cup hero Obafemi Martins has been warned that he is expected to return to Russian side Rubin Kazan at the end of the season. The striker is currently on loan at St Andrew's.

From James, Salford, on text: "Stevo, I think you've lost it mate. Chelsea don't stand a chance! 1-0 United. Absolutely chuffed Hernandez gets a start in a big game. He will get the winner. C'mon you Reds!"

who raises these people? Is there a foster home staffed by senile alumni of Roy of the Rovers?

MPx4A, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

remember when this game meant something?
