I have a feeling he is older than that because doesn't he sometimes refer to jobs he had before NBC?
― rendezvous then i'm through with HOOS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:28 (fifteen years ago)
well in the south in the early part of the century he could've easily held jobs as a teenager. On the other hand, he did also graduate from Kentucky Mountain Bible College. So he could've started in the NBC page program a couple years later, at 22 say. The page program was founded in 1933 (according to the wikis) so Kenneth would have joined it in its third year. At any rate, Kenneth is at least 90 years old.

was that hannibal burress again as the homeless dude last night? it sounded like him.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:49 (fifteen years ago)
loved twofer tagging "graffito"
also was the guest writer supposed to be kinda sarah silverman-y or am i reading too much into it? silverman isn't that overtly sexual iirc but she does that dirty/cutesy thing
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
this show has a weird relationship with Jew jokes btw, in that it clearly should be making more of them. there was some weird crack about the guest writer changing her last name from "Grossman" and I couldn't even hear if it was supposed to be a Jew joke or not.
― instead of a brain in the subway mila kunis going down on you (silby), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:52 (fifteen years ago)
given that Jenna said Grossman "sounds kind of bagel-y" it was obviously not a Jewish joke
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
ah, I thought that's what she said.
"your name sounds Jewish, you must be important" @ Pete from forever still pretty good.
― instead of a brain in the subway mila kunis going down on you (silby), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
it was weird because she was doing sarah silvermans baby voice but the joke was clearly about olivia munn? (to me at least)
― max, Friday, 25 February 2011 16:55 (fifteen years ago)
yeah that was hannibal burress. and I think the guest writer was kind of silverman-y but inspired by olivia munn more than anything. i would link to jezebel posts marked with tag "olivia munn" if that site worked at all right now
― A B C, Friday, 25 February 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
I dunno the whole denoument with the crazy ex-husband just seemed like a joke from a lesser show.
"trying to sail an inflatable castle across the atlantic" cracked me up

I think the solution to all of this is for Kristen Schaal to get more work
This episode was great, even though I kind of figured where the confrontation with the teenager was going when she was introduced.
Jack's fantasy had me lolling hardcore.
Also Jezebel is like the real-life analogue of Liz Lemon's behavior in this episode.
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
kristen schaal talks with a baby voice but i like it because it seems like the voice of a baby whose lower face is all chapped because it's usually covered in snot

jezebel is the real-life analogue of joanofsnark.com!

Yeah I was going to ask the same thing, don't get the Munn reference at all.

in a nutshell, jezebel and other feminist-y blogs called out the daily show for sexism in part because it hired the criminally unfunny olivia munn; it came out later that tina fey had in fact recommended munn for perfect couples; munn said a number of impolite things about how bloggers just hate her b/c she looks good in a bikini
― max, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)
"criminally unfunny olivia munn"
I don't really see this as like some universal truth though, she has her moments. Her delivery on Daily Show has been pretty awful though.

comedienne uses ott sexuality
yeah its basically a universal truth, olivia munn is not that funny, she just has a personal brand of "being funny" that people mistake for actual funniness
― max, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:11 (fifteen years ago)
She has been genuinely funny on Perfect Couples, but likely I'm the only person on the board who stayed with that show past the awful first two episodes.
xp: lol max
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:11 (fifteen years ago)
DJP OTM, she is probably one of the few bright spots on that show (though, tbh, I'm still about 3 episodes behind).
― rendezvous then i'm through with HOOS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 25 February 2011 17:12 (fifteen years ago)
I dunno, around episode 3 all 6 leads started clicking for me.
Last week's episode was really, really funny
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:13 (fifteen years ago)
I liked her in the "man cave" episode.

maybe you guys should start a perfect couples thread so i can continue to pretend that it doesnt exist and nbc just goes dark between 8:30 and 9
― max, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:15 (fifteen years ago)
yeah that's episode 3; the show improves (dramatically IMO) from that point on
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:16 (fifteen years ago)
wolves and west ham didn't draw 0-0, this show has lost all credibility.

well now you know, thanks to me
― max, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
First off, Sarah Silverman is way funnier and sexier than OM any day.
First thing I ever saw of her was a compilation of "funniest moments" which included her jumping to eat a hot dog on a string and her jumping into a pool of whipped cream in a maid's costume. She definitely sells a personal brand of "being funny" but she's also basically a slutwaver for whom 'comedy' is a convenient excuse.
Her painful Daily Show segments are proof enough. She really looks like she's trying _so_ hard to be funny, or to be perceived as funny. But she's just not funny.
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 25 February 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)
"slutwaver"?
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
DJP: I'm with you too, I realized last night that I genuinely like the show now!

You do realize that these "compilations" are made by horny YouTube nerds, right? Its not exactly a scientific study of her punchline to actual laughter ratio or whatever.

ok yeah the situation has parallels, i thought you were saying the character's behavior/looks were patterned after Munn which made less sense

LOL @ "I'm not gonna live forever, no matter how much gold i give Poseidon."
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 25 February 2011 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
I know it was in the previews but Jenna walking up to Liz, slapping her and say "WHAT IS THAT?" still made me lol so hard
also Lutz is a neverending vortex of funny
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
lutz is married to sue in real life, i want to hang with them, i bet theyre fun

i mean it's lutz so i assume it's a compliment but ?

lutz rules forever
― A B C, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:35 (fifteen years ago)
I am not sure how that was ambiguous, but what I meant was "Lutz is always hilarious"
hanging out with Lutz and Sue would be amazing
― DJP, Friday, 25 February 2011 17:36 (fifteen years ago)
munn was funny enough as a cohost on attack of the show, tho it could just be good writing. i would prob trust her to deliver in a comic role in a decent sitcom (havent watched 1 second of perfect couples or seen her on daily show)
