Yeah, I don't have class guilt because I've been a cleaning lady and my grandmother was a cleaning lady and my aunt-in-law is a cleaning lady, so I don't really look at it as grunt work, just as a job I need done that I hire somebody to do. Also cleaning houses is a really sweet way to be self employed with very little initial investment, so I'm happy to help people out with that (so I only hire independent business woman, not like Merry Maids or some bullshit) while buying back some free time for myself.

Same here. I used to be a cleaning lady and so did Jenny's relatives.

Jesse, Sunday, 7 December 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry I missed karaoke folks. I didn't bounce back entirely from last night.

Jesse, Sunday, 7 December 2008 07:06 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, here is a thread in which the owner of the Violet Hour posts a bunch of recipes for their cocktails and in so doing, comes across as being a really solidly cool individual:

"You can take any of these specs and 'batch' them for a pitcher by changing ounces into cups."

This guy is brilliant.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

songs i karaoked last night:

"you might think" the cars
"cold as ice" foreigner
"high on you" survivor

i also learned that in "high on you" it's not "battle teacher", it's "that'll teach ya"
whoopsie

La Lechera, Sunday, 7 December 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

"three word songs" by me

La Lechera, Sunday, 7 December 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

That was probably the most entertaining of the karaoke outings I've attended.

Amanda, you need a BATTLE TEACHER tattoo.

Eazy, Sunday, 7 December 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

hehe
it was pretty fun. oh, and dan you should know that That Guy and i were trying to get a cab at the same time,
and one came and he let me have it. that has to redeem him a little bit. i am still in awe of the virgin mary girl's growling.
it was something to behold. jesse, you would have been impressed because she was borderline diamanda galas.

La Lechera, Monday, 8 December 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

what rebirth song did you sample, nick???

some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Monday, 8 December 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

oh "fire" duh

some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Monday, 8 December 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

did you get that from me or do you like own rebirth cds?

some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Monday, 8 December 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sad I missed it! Although I'm not sad I stayed home, if that makes any sense. But "Cold As Ice" is a very excellent karaoke choice, Amanda.

I just made chicken and dumplings. This might represent the worst work to successful outcome ratio in all of cooking history. How the hell does my grandmother get her dumplings so thin???? You must have to be an old lady from southern Delaware to do this right.*

*My mother insists I am not "from" Delaware at all, having not been born in the state. Way to force me out of my homeland, Ma.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Monday, 8 December 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

One guy last night sang "I Try" and sounded a lot like Macy Gray.

The Virgin Mary somehow charmingly did moves that involved crawling on the floor and showing her undies while also singing "Whole Lotta Rosie" with ferocious intensity, and she gave the best karaoke performance I have ever seen.

Eazy, Monday, 8 December 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa.

Also - C&D actually came out pretty good after all. Dumplings were chewy, but still tasted good and the broth was like damn yeah.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Monday, 8 December 2008 01:56 (seventeen years ago)

yo eazy i think i got stood up tonite -- no show obv

deej, Monday, 8 December 2008 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

ooh dis. Sorry deej. Next time you're spinning you need a t-shirt that says UP FOR IT.

Eazy, Monday, 8 December 2008 02:14 (seventeen years ago)

lol

deej, Monday, 8 December 2008 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

I wanted to go to the HC but I was feeling rough. In trying to fix my hangover, I ruined my stomach (biscuits & gravy w/ eggs for breakfast, Chinese for lunch, and a donut for snack).

What song did that girl growl?

Jesse, Monday, 8 December 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)

Holy crap. My HS graduating class is organizing a reunion. This comes on the heels of last week's 30 Rock.

Jesse, Monday, 8 December 2008 04:46 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone I would want to reunite with I have already done so with online, so I see very little point. Except feeling old. And being horrified.

Jesse, Monday, 8 December 2008 04:47 (seventeen years ago)

What song did that girl growl?

Eazy, Monday, 8 December 2008 04:49 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not often one to describe music in this way, but that's one of the nastiest guitar riffs ever.

Whole Lotta Rosie is an awesome song, no question. It's Bon Scott's entry to the "Songs in Praise of Sex with Fat Women" musical subcategory.

What else? Fat Bottom Girls, obvs.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Monday, 8 December 2008 13:17 (seventeen years ago)

Derrick Rose isn't practicing Monday after needing 10 stitches to close a gash in his arm. The Bulls said Rose suffered the injury when he rolled over onto a knife he was using to carve an apple while in bed. The injury isn't considered serious. Rose could play Tuesday at home against the Knicks.

jaymc, Monday, 8 December 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

that's what they all say

some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Monday, 8 December 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

slicing your arm while rolling over onto a knife while carving an apple in bed vs. shooting yourself in the leg in the parking lot at applebees

ok i guess he shot himself in the leg at a club, not at applebees

Your original display name will be displayed in brackets. (dan m), Monday, 8 December 2008 23:05 (seventeen years ago)

It usually comes into my inbox late Monday or early Tuesday. I'll post it here when I get it.

Just talk to Quizmaster Dave after the quiz to sign up.

jaymc, Monday, 8 December 2008 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

I am going to wikipedia the shit out of every topic we can figure out, yay unemployment.

Actually I probably could have done that pretty easily while I was still working, the last few months at least.

I suck at quiz.

Jesse, Monday, 8 December 2008 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

Tonight's quiz rounds:

1) Audio Rounds: Shortened Wino 10 pts
2) Happily Say D'Oh! 11 pts
3) Match- Hey You, Beer Me 15 pts
4) Chemical States Round 16 pts
5) Dead or Canadian 11 pts
6) Picture Round 15 pts
7) General Knowledge 22 pts

I have no idea if "Audio Rounds" means that it's an actual audio round (I've never seen him do that) or if that's part of an anagram.

I thought "Happily Say D'oh" might be a Simpsons round, but it's actually an anagram for "Happy Holidays." Still, Dan, it might not hurt to read up on the Simpsons Christmas episodes.

jaymc, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:10 (seventeen years ago)

Audio RoundS with the S at the end implies something weird to me

Oh man. Blagojevich was taken into federal custody. It was only a matter of time.

sisut, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

crazy

Mood at the JRTC is... celebratory. Ha! That's what happens when you are the first governor since the passage of the Illinois State Labor Relations Act to bed a dick about contract negotiations.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)

Uh... be a dick, not bed a dick.

Our AA is listening to the radio and saying, "Wow! WHOA!" This should be good.

atty at LOL (Jenny), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 15:08 (seventeen years ago)

Eeee the "Wow/whoa" was in response to the radio talking about some connections with Obama. I guess the Feds have Blago on tape mentioning his name in some context?
