I have to say I never would have thought of the animated gif as a platform for art, but its progression has been really interesting to watch.

btw meant to tell you grady that an old friend of mine called me up yesterday, was giving me some nice compliments about weinventyou, then out of nowhere goes "have you seen 3 frames!?"

it started it off as just a "fun" thing to do for an ilx thread..after a month or so i got the harebrained idea that i could start up a website and that it would really take off. the idea was that random internet people would submit animation "requests" (similar to this thread at the beginning) and that i'd animate them. people are always looking for cool facebook profile pics, if nothing else, and a custom gif is kind of a novelty still, if it's done well. i thought that people would maybe like their custom animations, and then tell their friends so they could get animated too. and so on, until some sort of critical mass was reached.

then i started barrylutz.com and got about 34 hits per month (most of them coming from my own visits)

i don't really know why i'm still doing it, or what i'm trying to accomplish. have to admit there are many times when i wonder if it was a good idea to invest 1000s of hours into this stuff. if i wasn't doing this i'd probably still be investing 1000s of hours into my crappy "music", so i guess it's a zero sum game, kinda

well, good news (if you like this thread) / bad news (if you don't like this thread and will be annoyed to see it pop up more frequently): i'm ditching my tumblr for the foreseeable future because it won't permit me to post about half of my shit, and when it does accept it, i have to reduce it to garbage quality for it to work. so i'm giving it up until they get their shit in gear.

so i'll probably be posting more frequently here (hooray!/sorry!), and the stuff here will be larger and less lossy since it won't have to go through the tumblr filter.
