"I didn't feel drained [by what happened at Liverpool] but of course you do feel wounded," Hodgson said. "I've had a very good spell in my career and it was a long while since I'd had a serious knockback in my career.
"It hasn't dented my belief or confidence but I can't lie and say it didn't hurt me or I didn't care. I've had an awful amount of praise and when you get the opposite it's not something you necessarily embrace."
Hodgson was appointed by the former owners of Liverpool, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, after guiding Fulham to the Europa League final and the club's highest finish in the Premier League. But the former Internazionale and Blackburn Rovers manager said he had not felt accepted during his short stay at Anfield and admitted to bitter disappointment over the manner of his departure.
"The people who wanted me at Liverpool didn't last too long. I think the new owners found themselves in a very difficult situation because we weren't winning enough games and the fans made it perfectly clear they wanted me gone and somebody else in," he said.

Every player has bad runs of form, Rooney's has lasted maybe ten months now. Prior to that he'd had the season of his career in terms of goalscoring at least which was just as well because for a striker at an attack-minded club blessed with lots of creative players, Rooney's goalscoring record is good but not especially great at less than a goal every two games.
that site is waste
rooney idk he is one of the best utility forwards around along with suarez and tevez

between them in fact, i'd have doyle ahead of him if paired with an actual goalscorer

With the exception of Berbs and Tevez every big name Premiership striker is having a dodgy season at best, but Rooney is the only one who looks like he might be amazing again.

Let's wait to see how long he lasts before his next injury before calling that one.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 09:56 (fifteen years ago)
injury prone rvp deserves my optimism more than rooney, who's been 'amazing' for no more than maybe ten seconds this past twelve months.
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 10:06 (fifteen years ago)
he spent one season as a top class poacher, there were a few years where he was a patchy but talented creative blunderbuss, it's going back to his first utd season since he consistently showed form/ability beyond yr midtable strikers.

Yeah come on, the Rooney hype has always been way ott, mainly because of his British bulldog face.
It's not even controversial anymore to say he's hugely patchy and injury prone, plus I know we've been through this but he simply isn't as fit or fast as he was as a teen, and he never will be.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 14:08 (fifteen years ago)
his pace for that superb goal on the counter last january suggests he's quicker at full sprint than ever, but he's certainly slower to turn or burst than he was in his first year or two in the england setup
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 14:15 (fifteen years ago)
Rooney's main problem these days is his shooting, 9 attempts out of 10 are these horrible scuffed sidefooters.
― Number None, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, but it's fair to point out that him changing his style of shooting brought him a bumper return last year i guess
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
I'm pretty sure all 34 of his goals last year were headers from a Valencia cross.

If United had been playing with both Valencia and Nani all season they'd have had the title sewn up by now.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:24 (fifteen years ago)
they do
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:41 (fifteen years ago)
It's generally believed by Utd fans that having them both in the team decreases Nani's effectiveness somewhat as he's forced to play on the left due to Valencia's inability to use his left foot for anything other than standing on. Nani playing on the left means he cuts inside even more than usual, leading to a lot of wasted shots. The way he's going this season it seems like he could play anywhere though
― Number None, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:46 (fifteen years ago)
there is that, was thinkin bout it the last night watching nani. Interestin to see if he loses form switching back, and if so what call ferguson makes
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 15:53 (fifteen years ago)
Could you play Nani through the middle?
― if there is a King Moaty, apparently he is huge into slapstick. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
His game is surprisingly similar to Lampards, but with less fat, more crossing and two feet.
― if there is a King Moaty, apparently he is huge into slapstick. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
i'd certainly be surprised if his game was similar to lampard's

Tottenham will fight off London rivals Arsenal to sign Ipswich boy wonder Connor Wickham in the summer.
Wickham, who will be 18 next month, is one of the country’s most sought-after youngsters. His value has soared to £15million following his first senior hat-trick in the Tractor Boys’ 6-0 demolition of Doncaster on Tuesday.
