they're basically just putting him in the paul schneider straight man role, which is kind of a shame. similar to rashida jones, they're hiring funny actors and then giving them reaction roles.

the calzone thing was just kinda uhhhh
The calzone thing might (I stress, might)be funny if you remember that the show is set in small town Indiana where calzones might be thought of as exotic and (therefore) unappetizing "foreign" food. Probably an unfair midwestern stereotype, but we are talking sitcom matertial here.
― Idgi Pop (KMS), Saturday, 12 February 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)
if they were consistent with that "small town life is xenophobic and different is weird" schtick i might buy into it, but have you noticed the small metrosexual brown guy who seems to get along with everyone in the town?
― الله basedأكبر (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 12 February 2011 16:40 (fifteen years ago)
calzone thing was just an absurdist "everyone hates calzones except adam scott for no good reason" joke, not that complicated
― congratulations (n/a), Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:00 (fifteen years ago)
it was making a point, ie calzones are just pizza in a less convenient format.
― mizzell, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
it's actually a MORE convenient formatbut i really really really don't want to go down this road

highway 2 the danger calzone
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah it was funny because it was irrational and reasonless but they all accepted it as obvious. Especially funny when she blew up about it one more time at the end.
― Evan, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Right.

yeah i thought the whole joke was that he couldn't say anything right. i thought it was funny. its rare that he's involved in the funny!
― scott seward, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:19 (fifteen years ago)
i think i liked most the v beginning after he suggests salad and then the calzones & aziz sez 'this is embarassing for you'
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
lold so hard through this ep...all of it was great! Ron is my hero.
― VegemiteGrrl, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
...but have you noticed the small metrosexual brown guy who seems to get along with everyone...
The small metrosexual brown guy works hard at it, though. Calzones just sit there waiting to be loved. But n/a, et al have it right, irrational hate of perfectly OK thing is funny.
― nickn, Saturday, 12 February 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
xps.. and yeah, especially funny when Leslie blew up at the end and psyched out Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) at the end. props to Leslie, she had me fooled
― homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Sunday, 13 February 2011 00:23 (fifteen years ago)
best moment of episode was probably the reveal of Jerry eating the cupcake at the bridal shower.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 February 2011 01:11 (fifteen years ago)
lol that was great
― VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 February 2011 01:12 (fifteen years ago)
this is kinda bullshit:

i mean 'smartest' just seems like an odd label for a show where the biggest laughs are from stuff that's very silly and/or character-driven
― some dude, Friday, 18 February 2011 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/02/10/parks-recreation-adam-scott-ew-cover/
Being a lifelong New Yorker (I grew up in Northern California and live in Los Angeles), when Entertainment Weekly called and begged me to be on the cover of their magazine (the show I’m on, Parks and Rec, was going to be on the cover, and thus I would ride its coattails) and that the shoot would be anywhere but Manhattan, I, of course, said no (yes). To even consider leaving my fair city (I’ve never lived here) makes me literally vomit (not literally, actually not at all). So the decision was easy: I’d triumphantly stay in New York (I’m working on a movie here, and due to a giant storm, all flights were cancelled) while my fellow castmates mug it up in EW (I’m a subscriber). Victory (devastation)!!!Mine (yours),Nick Offerman (Adam Scott)

great Thursday all-around imo: P&R, Community & 30R were all @ the top of their game.
― Myers and the Obese Olympics triceratops climbing event (Pillbox), Sunday, 20 February 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)
Really? I thought 30R was pretty flat this week, and Community, while entertaining, didn't really provide big LOLs. I thought the mock-documentary style kind of undermined comedic timing or something.
― Super Cub, Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)
Really? I thought 30R was pretty flat this week - see, now this is some malarkey
― Myers and the Obese Olympics triceratops climbing event (Pillbox), Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:08 (fifteen years ago)
there were lols (as ever) but it was pretty flat in places. if Troy didn't provide you with big LOLs in this week's Community otoh, i feel bad for u son.
― Gukbe, Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:15 (fifteen years ago)
found p&r waaaaay funnier than community this week
― just sayin, Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:22 (fifteen years ago)
Found them all funny, but with P&R in the lead this time. Three of my favorite shows all in one night, an embarrassment of riches.

― ullr saves (gbx), Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
They were all funny, and Community had some golden bits, but I can't get behind the "top of their game" description for Community and 30R. That's a really high standard and I wont go bandying such high praise about willynilly. THIS COMEDY THING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.
