Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Saturday, 12 February 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

I'm disappointed I wasn't nominated to be on team Dailymile 2011.

Jeff, Saturday, 12 February 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

its an outrage frankly

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 February 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

DM sort of freaks me out these days. I get a lot of comments, on really the most inane and mediocre workouts. I appreciate the unconditional support though.

xpost: The metrics suck overall on DM.

Jeff, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

haha yes they dont even know when two days ago is

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

seems p jankey overall - like it imports the bare minimum data via garmin when it could be populating so many fascinating fields - could see it developing into something good tho

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:18 (fifteen years ago)

The stats are more of an afterthought. They are really just going for a facebook feel.

Jeff, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

My runningahead.com log:

Jeff, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

facebook + stats would be awesome tho - this shit is making my runs look weak by leaving out the elevation data!

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)

they should have some sort of map my run type functionality too

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

Snow and ice is melting here today. It's glorious. And tomorrow it may hit 40. It may be the best 9 miles of my life.

Jeff, Saturday, 12 February 2011 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

yah, snow looks incredible. kinda forgot about daily mile, just added u

skip shuffle fusion (los blue jeans), Sunday, 13 February 2011 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

Going to be nice and warm in the coming week, looking forward to getting 20+ miles in. Didn't feel like running today, but the weather was gorgeous so I hiked 15 miles. Which hurts a lot more than running 13 miles, but is super relaxing.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 13 February 2011 05:55 (fifteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Sunday, 13 February 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

9 miles, 47 degrees. Longest run since my marathon, felt pretty good.

Jeff, Sunday, 13 February 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

lots of puddlejumping today!
is it really 47 degrees in chicago today? i knew it was warmer than 35, but didn't check the actual temp

great run today, though! <-- excessive !! i know, but after the last few weeks, which have been 2x/week slothfests, this feels like a gift

ergonomically chromium plated fish slice (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 February 2011 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh, still out of action. About to go for my 10-minute excuse for a run.

Pisle of dogs (seandalai), Sunday, 13 February 2011 22:31 (fifteen years ago)

i haven't ventured out since my 50 miler... still coasting on endorphins :)

so fucked with shin splints, or at least i think it's that. not had a decent run for about 2/3 weeks. inside of my left shin is really sore and it spreads to the ankle as i run on it. ran 5 yards just now and decided to call it quits. is there anything i can do to (a)confirm it's shin splints and (b) treat it? i've googled and applying heat is recommended.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

Wish I could help but that's one of the few running injuries I've never had.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

Ronan, you would probably be best to visit a sports injury clinic or something. It might cost you £30 or so but it will be worth it. There's a well regarded one in Glasgow especially for runners so there must be lots of equivalent ones in London.

jed_, Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

i've been getting the same while tryin to break in new runners, can only hope it dies down.

Much worse on treadmill

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

definitely get that checked out—it could be a stress fracture, or could turn into one.

mte, Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

looks like ilx running is in a lull - i went out yesterday and and felt totally pooped - imna take a lil rest now - 30 mile weeks prob arent quite sustainable for me at this point

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

yah i had a 25 mile wk last wk - had my mind set on repeating it this wk, still might but think i have to skip today, legs feel tired

johnny crunch, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

i did three 30 miles weeks in a row, def my best stretch ever as far as that goes /braggin

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

I've been running consistently 3 days a week, and cross training 2 days. But now I've got a near constant it band ache when just walking around. The odd thing is that it doesn't affect me that much while running. There is no acute pain and any ache is at a very low level. But then it hurts during my normal commute/walking. This is month 9 of me having this injury. Still driving me fucking crazy.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:16 (fifteen years ago)

Also got a digital metronome. Fantastic gadget for keeping my pace at 180 spm.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

Cadence, not pace.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

20 miles per week is just about right for me. any more and i'm too beat

Aerosol, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

180 spm made we wanna kill myself

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Thursday, 17 February 2011 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

It's fun experimenting with, trying out different paces while keeping the same cadence. You end up changing your stride length to compensate.

Probably the biggest benefit for me that it certainly adds a rhythm to your running. The miles just seem to go by quicker when you keep your cadence consistent.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

I do love it when I get locked into a rhythm and my mind kind of drifts in front of my body and it feels like a big hand is just pushing you down the trail. Maybe that's good cadence?

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

i found my speed at threshold was higher with slower than 180 spm turnover, plus my ple was lower.

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

do they have digital metronomes as a thing, or did you just download an mp3 (which is what i did and put it on loop)? also, i found doing 90 bpm for two strides to be far less frenetic and irritating.

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

I bought a $17 clip on one, because I no longer run with music or headphones.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

And yes, I do set it to 90bpm and just time it with one foot. So it ends up being 180 spm for both feet.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 February 2011 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

there was actually a website with lists of (dubious) tracks at 90bpm somewhere.

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

I think what is especially moving in the photos above are the trees. Driving on 91N I see bare branches.
