Also, I'm dumb, what does ISO stand for?

I'm checking with the bar to see if I can do it in Jan instead of next Weds, we'll see...Otherwise, they do have karaoke there on Wednesday and decent and decently-priced drinks, so it could be a good midweek evening either way.

jaymc, alternate clues for 62 across:
-gouge the head of a drum, again
-stop for car maintenance during a race, again

Ohhh!
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)
I like that!
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)
sarah ... there is a preview for the new season of the wire on youtube. however, season five (the last season) doesn't START until Jan. 8, which means it's going to be FOREVER until it comes out on DVD
― n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
Although maybe "What true homeboys do with their hood"?
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
Sure. Or even cut "true" if it's too long of a clue.
― Eazy, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe I will wait until The Wire is done for good before I start watching it. I'm trying to think of who tried to tell me recently that The Wire was only three seasons long. I tried to correct them, but they were just like, "Nope, it's over."
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)
No, I like "true." And I don't care too much about long-ish clues. Cf: "Course in which 'The Wealth of Nations' might be on the syllabus."
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)
This upcoming season of The Wire is the final one. I cat-sit for a friend once in a while who has HBO On Demand, so if I stay there sometime this winter/spring, we could watch a few eps then.
― Eazy, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)
Ha, I like Eazy's clue.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)
i really don't recommend starting in the middle or near the end if you haven't seen the wire before, there are way too many characters and backstories
― n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)
If I had HBO, I would probably become one of those people without hobbies.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)
jordan, i was thinking about it the other day, and i think the reason s4 seemed transitional is that each of the other seasons had a discrete storyline that came to some kind of conclusion at the end - s1 had them setting up major crimes and the wiretap, s2 had the docks, s3 had stringer bell and avon, but s4 didn't really have anything like that. they introduced the plot with all the young kids, and the schools plot, but neither really seemed to end exactly, and it seems like they could just continue into the next season
― n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)
makes sense. i'll let you know if i agree after i finish the last two season 4 episodes tomorrow. :>
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)
I changed those two clues. Flickr page now has a revised version. If B.T. wants to use it, I'll give you guys a cut. :)
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)
oh sorry dude i just assumed you were done for some reason. i didn't really give anything way hopefully
― n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)
nah, it's cool.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)
The guy who writes this blog once wrote to me about something music-related. He's pretty much living season 4 of The Wire, interesting guy.
― Eazy, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)
oh i saw an ad last night ... apparently lost is starting up again at the end of january?
― n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)
Yep, Jan. 31.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)
This day gets worse and worse.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)
Apparently the water soaked the carpet in one unit and proceeded to drip into the next, but did no damage to it. The unit with the soaked carpet is calling a carpet cleaner and mold-eradication company so insurance is involved. I do have some plant pot liners now however....
― Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, man.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)
Hi they are insane! How can you be worried about mold on the SAME DAY that a little water was spilled?? Put a fan on the spot and let it dry out, for god's sake.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)
Has this been happening over a period of time, J?

― dan m, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)
Yeh, I know. I seriously don't think it was THAT much water! I put about 2 quarts in a huge pot. This is stressing me severely.
xpost - no. But we knew the floors leaked b/c a plumber busted a pipe once and it leaked down 4 floors doing serious $$$$ damage. Plus the spilled coffee above us, etc.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)
Getting insurance involved over 2qt. of water isn't being difficult? Remember you're talking to the Duke of Difficult here...
― dan m, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)
the new single is up on the digd0wn myspace
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)
Mold is a problem when water SITS and stagnates and is never allowed or able to dry out. Mold is not a problem when some water gets on some boards and then dries overnight. And if the carpeted level that got "soaked" was so porous that it dripped right through into the NEXT floor, then it's porous enough to dry out overnight.

OMG, I've had such an incredible quantity of cookies and candy today! I just took a quick break from that to have a Coke Zero.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)
i could use a cookie. i'm going to try a new pizza place near my hood after work and i'm fantasizing about food.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
I'm fantasizing about some pizza I might have Saturday night. I know nothing about it, except that it is pizza.
― KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)
Laurel, I agree! I haven't seen what happened down there, so I don't know for sure, but considering the total quantity of water I put into the plant, I don't see how this is going to result in mold. But then I may be comparing to New Orleans.....
― Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)
myspace is so dumb
― Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm. Well, La Femme Partner might be in a state right now (guy partner is perfectly OK) but I guess not enough to not want to have a Xmas lunch day after tomorrow (1/2 day off!)
I just realized that I missed my Paxil 2 days in a row and am therefore feeling really creepy and persecuted anyway, even without 2 lawyer-tenants from downstairs barking at me and my boss, and the fact that I had to field calls from the condo board for the rest of the day.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 23:23 (eighteen years ago)
It's probably my termination luncheon.

I went and say landlady and she told me about when she got an unexpected $2000 overdue gas bill in the mail a couple years ago. "I was behind on all my other bills and barely able to pay for the repairs on the boiler when this bill came, so I thought, I'll get my son's gun and put a bullet in my head. But then a few days later I got a refund check for an overpayment on my taxes! Can you imagine? What if I had put a bullet in my head and then the check had come the next day?" Then she laughed and laughed.
