Troy's second huzzah is especially amazing because he kinda looks sad when he says it

Mordy, Friday, 4 February 2011 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

Still haven't found an Annie's fingers gif, so I'm downloading last night's show and making one. Coming up soon!

ha, you watched the same rip I did. what software did you use to capture?

rockapads, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

Virtual Dub creates jpegs from the video frames: http://www.virtualdub.org/download.html -- and then I made an animated gif in Photoshop.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

cool, i'll give it a shot - thanks.

rockapads, Saturday, 5 February 2011 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

having the cleaner as voiceoverlady was the best punchline

yea i'm glad I didn't watch this at my house or our condo mates woulda been screaming "shut the fuck up" through the walls

r0b /via/ orl (San Te), Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

this was good, but i don't understand why you guys go so gaga over the hi-concept episodes such as this one, the paintball one... i think that the previous couple, the anti-drug play and the rich one, were much funnier

dell (del), Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

to me the writing on d&d, paintball gets too labored, like they are tripping over themselves trying to be too clever

dell (del), Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

This was basically a bottle episode, to offset the elaborate costumes and sets of the drug play episode...

Abed should've had a DM's screen.

Kerm, Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

Personally it hit hard because of Depression and what it's really like but ya know, was also p funny

if there is a King Moaty, apparently he is huge into slapstick. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

should add i was heartened to hear the cry of "excelsior"

also, off-topic, but yesterday i watched the simpsons for the first time in like eight years or something, and it happened to be the "sleep, that's where i'm a viking" one!

dell (del), Saturday, 5 February 2011 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

u crazy

Mordy, Saturday, 5 February 2011 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

i watched all three with a friend and she thought the same thing!

dell (del), Saturday, 5 February 2011 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

This was basically a bottle episode, to offset the elaborate costumes and sets of the drug play episode...

was the inverse of the xmas one..instead of the show expensively recreating the aesthetics of the world in which characters were imagining themselves, you saw them in the study room simply discussing this imaginary world.

scottpl, Saturday, 5 February 2011 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

I love this show. The editing, the sound design, all of it. Really awesome.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 5 February 2011 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

Like when Chang turns in his character sheet, its all slo-mo and he fades into the hallway. So rad.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 5 February 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

I don't really care about the high conceptness .. I just thought this episode brought the laughs. But also I am a huge nerd so all the AD&D stuff was welcome.

Last week's episode was pretty weak I thought.

polyphonic, Sunday, 6 February 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

It wasn't really very "hi concept" except for the occasional narration and chang's slo-mo scene. Otherwise it was just like any other episode with an additional character.

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Sunday, 6 February 2011 03:26 (fifteen years ago)

I think it was very tightly directed wrt things like sound effects (which often reflected what was going on in the game) and scoring such that it felt much more high concept than it actually was. there was definitely a level of artistry in so many details this last ep

Googling for an interview with the showrunner made me realize that this isn't the first time Dan Harmon's contributed something to mass D&D culture. when he was back in the Dead Alewives(the mid-90s sketch comedy troupe with Rob Schrab), he wrote this:

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Sunday, 6 February 2011 06:06 (fifteen years ago)

Dan Harmon wrote that sketch?? I've been hearing it for years and never realized.

Mordy, Sunday, 6 February 2011 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

does one of the voices, too, apparently:

Yeah, she is beautiful.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 11 February 2011 06:15 (fifteen years ago)

It seemed like a one-off to play up Abed and Troy's bond, but who knows.

The girl with Leather Tuscadero hair and the beauty mark on her cheek who hung out with Annie was CUET.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 February 2011 06:20 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah she was! The non-lesbian girl had a weird Marlee Matlin look, odd looking girl.
Loved Jeff carrying Chang back inside;
Chang yelling at the hermit crabs
Italian fanny= British for pizza
Annie making kiss face at Britta

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 11 February 2011 06:25 (fifteen years ago)

Alison Brie addressed it on twitter earlier (apparently they're irl friends): she was Cyrina Fiallo.

Super cute

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 11 February 2011 06:36 (fifteen years ago)

Chang walking in the apt and immediately smashing the lamp with nunchucks had me pausing the TV to wipe the tears from my face.

dan selzer, Friday, 11 February 2011 06:37 (fifteen years ago)

i sure wish maite schwartz would make sure nobody drew wieners in me

the pierce plot is shaping up nicely—A+ abuse of the group at the beginning. ('i'm using it to have this stupid conversation with you.')

the whole lesbian plot is like out of ancient comedy or something

j., Friday, 11 February 2011 06:38 (fifteen years ago)

Starburns had valentines Heartburns

Lesbian + Librian = hottest episode

I don't get the end credits joke.

You don't get the candy hearts, or you don't get that "I've been cheating" could be taken two different ways in that context?

idgi fridays (blueski), Friday, 11 February 2011 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

Ridiculously I was taken 'out' of the episode by the fact that Jeff etc were watching the Liverpool/Man U game at 6:30 pm Denver time which would mean it was kicking off at sometime around midnight English time! It really bothered me.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

I wouldn't be surprised if soccer gets tape delayed in the US.

nickn, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

No tape delays on the East coast for European football matches afaik (at least on DirecTv). Not sure how it works in the Mountain time zone, though.

Idgi Pop (KMS), Saturday, 12 February 2011 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

no tape delays in the midwest either
