Thats what happened to this thread

Evan, Friday, 4 February 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

Jon, try and just tune out the people you don't like. Whiney has a schtick, and sometimes it's funny and useful, and sometimes it's boring and prickish, but don't get aggravated by it - it's pretty harmless. Easy for me to say, maybe, because the only two posters I genuinely hated have both gone, but good advice nonetheless.

I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 4 February 2011 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

He's never approached s1ocki levels of shitting on threads.

I'm assuming this is a very deadpan joke.

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Friday, 4 February 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

In my (very slight) defense, it came after an episode in which he was following me into various threads to post a picture of Jeff Tweedy after everything I said.

this was a pretty cute commercial

basedketball (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 4 February 2011 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

for what it's worth, i wasn't trying to defend anybody with my post, I just didn't like the commercial. I don't mind that other people like it or anything.

rockapads, Friday, 4 February 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

lol Bill

i never did that, btw

markers, Friday, 4 February 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

I actually got a kick out of this commercial. I'm sure JVC (RIP) would be surprised to hear me say that, because i'm apparently on his shit-list.

The Curse of Dennis Stratton (Bill Magill), Friday, 4 February 2011 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

at this point I more or less wish all things Star Wars-related never even existed in the first place

bien-pensant vibe (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 4 February 2011 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

Putting the star wars thing aside, the fact that the kid actually believed that he caused the lights going on was pretty funny. A little hammy on the reaction by the junior thespian, but thumbs up overall.

The Curse of Dennis Stratton (Bill Magill), Friday, 4 February 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

hammy? he's in a mask!! the kid's a master, come on.

the piggy thing is way better tho, love that shit

goole, Friday, 4 February 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the commercial, but I used to have a little kid who did adorable things.

it's cool goole, i didn't want to bring up the chillwave probs you've been having in your personal life, i figured that was your story to tell

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 4 February 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

good thread!

gr8080, Friday, 4 February 2011 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

To be clear, I don't want to ban Whiney. I just want him to stop being so willfully dickish to people. Considering his book, he's obviously a smart guy with great things to say. I just wish he'd approach posting here with the same attitude.

honest question j/v/c: did you click "suggest ban"?

gr8080, Friday, 4 February 2011 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

I SBed whiney for real after that awful ILM thread he started recently abt indie-latepass-whatever — figured it probly wouldn't amount to much, but on the off chance that 50 other ppl on this board had gotten as fed-up with him as I was at that moment, I wasn't really gonna lose any sleep over it

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:19 (fifteen years ago)

post here if you favor replacing our Suggest Ban system with a Killfile system

gr8080, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

ppl make that observation all the time. algerian goalkeeper made it in the album poll thread and nobody batted an eyelid. xp

???

zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:24 (fifteen years ago)

what observation?

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:26 (fifteen years ago)

it's kind of a truism on here that uh, generalists, shall we say, catch onto acts the album after the album genre dudes go gooey eyed for, and commonly overpraise said album. i;ve heard this put forward countless times, but because whiney said "indie dudes" and not p4k, stereogum, paste or whatever, ppl caught feelings, somewhat hilariously imo.

zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah exactly, it's a truism — i.e. a thing that EVERYONE KNOWS and thus something that is NOT VERY INTERESTING TO TALK ABOUT. it seemed like a thread whose sole purpose was to stir shit up, and even if that's not the case, doesn't it maybe say something about Whiney that his default snarky outlook is often indistinguishable from deliberate trolling?

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:32 (fifteen years ago)

"whose sole purpose was to stir shit up and/or pat ourselves on the back" I should add

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

"lol pitchfork herbs be likin' hell hath, all the TRUE clipse lifers know the album before the one everyone liked is better than the one everyone liked"

yeah guess what, the modest mouse album before the one with "float on" on it was way better, and the one before that one was even better, etc etc who gives a shit

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:36 (fifteen years ago)

tru gz ride 4 lonesome crowded west iirc

basedketball (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:38 (fifteen years ago)

that's the one I'm talking about! unless I did my "ones before" math wrong

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

i think it says something about something.

zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

i mean i'm not really sure how u can have this thing that everyone knows is true, but it's disgusting for a critic to be interested in cataloging exactly what records are being talked abt

zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:42 (fifteen years ago)

this thread is now a kid in a darth vader lid making force gestures at ilx

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:53 (fifteen years ago)

isn't the latepassapedia argument basically "herbs be liking what I like and diluting my brand"

dayo, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:59 (fifteen years ago)

no
