lol what are u saying, he's not an asshole here but u just picked this thread to go off on him?

As I explained like twice upthread, this is just symptomatic of how he goes out of his way to be negative about things.

jon seriously if you are this earnest and enthusiastic about things all the time, i'm not sure you're doing the internet right

Well, I'm not sure you are doing "life" right, but hey if being a jaded, bitter asshole is your goal - go for it, you're doing a great job!

Also huge fucking lol at needing to be nasty and bitter to do the internet "right".

Jesus fucking christ. Point taken, you all hate me. Have fun with Whiney ILX, I'm out.

How do kids of that age know about star wars? Is there still new star wars stuff coming out? Or did the nostalgic parents force it upon him (or her).

Jeff, Friday, 4 February 2011 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't watched it yet, but presence of Star Wars makes me not want to like it. Note: I also haven't read the thread yet, but based on the most recent response, I would like to emphasize that my opinion has nothing to do with my feelings about Jon.

Having now watched it, it is kinda cute.

markers, Friday, 4 February 2011 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

There needs to be more star trek for modern day kids.

Also, the commercial was sufficiently cute.

Jeff, Friday, 4 February 2011 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

they made a star trek for teens. i'm not sure star trek was ever all that much of a kids thing.

jon seems super sensitive but i agree Whiney is kind of a http://blog.mrhacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/comic_book_guy.jpg version of the cool police here.

Evan, Friday, 4 February 2011 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

I feel like I temporarily lock half the threads I post in.

Evan, Friday, 4 February 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

ppl are probably just burnt out on this thread

markers, Friday, 4 February 2011 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i mean mixed feelings, obviously whiney can be utterly insufferable when he gets on some "this is the internet, son" ish, but otoh u start a poll thread about a car commercial with a leading title, you gotta be prepared for some heat.

call all destroyer, Friday, 4 February 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

christ @ this commercial. it's hard to believe anyone still has any fondness for the Star Wars brand (which is all it is) anymore. the costume the kid is wearing is probably like a $400 replica - that's the kind of shit that will get a kid's ass kicked by other kids. spoiled rich kid. and... wouldn't a kid that age be into something other than star wars? whatever little kids are into right now. oh yeah, i guess i'm supposed to be the little kid AND the parents, huh?

no beans, push to fart (J0rdan S.), Friday, 4 February 2011 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

Uh, I've seen pretty much that exact kid's Darth Vader costume at Target for like $30. And kids are VERY into Star Wars, like you would not believe. Everyone I know who has kids, those kids have "Clone Wars" toys and video games up the wazoo.

rockapads, Friday, 4 February 2011 19:32 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think there is that much an emphasis on the Star Wars brand in this ad- it could be a kid playing pirate or cowboy or something else, but obviously it is about him using the "force" to control things, and how silly it looks to have a tiny kid decked out in a full Darth costume.

Evan, Friday, 4 February 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

btw, what feature of the 2012 passat is this commercial specifically advertising? that you can make the lights flash remotely? or did i miss something?

no beans, push to fart (J0rdan S.), Friday, 4 February 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)

That you can turn it on remotely.

Jeff, Friday, 4 February 2011 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

oh i guess the car turns on? haven't cars been doing that for like 5 years

it kind of writes itself

some guy thinks a volkswagen ad that references 'star wars' is the cutest shit ever...

history mayne, Friday, 4 February 2011 19:42 (fifteen years ago)

Seriously, wtf is with the Whiney defenders? I mean, really, is this how you want the internet to be handled? This place is turning into a gigantic fucking circle jerk of bitterness and trying to out-"clown" each other. If thats what people want this place to be, so be it, I'm obviously the one out of step here. I think its time I bowed away from ILX, which is a shame, because there is quite a few people and ongoing threads here I will actively miss. It just seems like the balance has tipped from a cool place where lots of intelligent people talk about music to some insular world where we all need to constantly clown earnestness and excitement to make sure exude the proper aura of "doing the internet right".

Fwiw, I'm not calling Whiney an asshole because of this thread, it just happened to be a place to vent about his rampant shitty attitude in general, short of starting a whole new thread about it. I'm sure you guys will consider this some sort of victory for having chased off someone who doesn't "post right" or whatever, so enjoy it, I guess.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 February 2011 19:47 (fifteen years ago)

Btw I think the commercial's "adorableness" has nothing to do with Star Wars, I love the kids gestures and excitement at role-playing.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 February 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

xxpost: ... some other guy with a "hipster puppies" tumblr claims that passing around links to cute shit is 'doing the internet wrong'...

proso_Opopoeia (bernard snowy), Friday, 4 February 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

lit's true whiney vomits bile on a timer but he didn't like this commercial & u took it personally. why are ppl who like cute things so often eggshells armed with hammers?

ps whiney is banned now

zvookster, Friday, 4 February 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

Again, because you can't seem to understand, this whole issue has next to noghing to do with this thread - it just happens to be the location where an ongoing issue came to a head.
