Pagination is the devil.

yeah i worked out the permalink thing a while back and it does make things easier

the best thing about ilx is that everything is on one page but i can see why others would like the option for pages in their preferences.

sorry if this sounds snide, but if your computer can't load a page that is just black text on a white background, the problem probably isn't the website

I don't know n/a, for some of those huge year-end threads my brand new work computer even gets bogged down w/ images turned off. Doesn't crash, but freezes my browser for 30 seconds +

turning images off isn't really the solution. I want to load images and youtube embeds; I just don't want to load 10,000 of them at once. it's great to be able to see an entire thread on one page, but certain threads are taxing even on a fast computer with a fast connection, so it would be nice to have optional pagination. ilx may have been nothing but black text on a white background in 2001, but we live in the future, and the future is scary and complicated.

is there a way of getting view previous page to work consistently when u have clicked a permalink below the fold? often i've just missed the last few msgs & don't need to read the whole thread

-you know when you try to start a new thread and it gives you a list of possible duplicate threads before you can create it? i want something like that when i make a new display name

how about a button on the top bar that lets you quickly switch the style to i-phone style sheet (which I use with my blackberry actually)

also, my old idea posted upthread about having a checkbox under the date range in the search menu for "search for all posts within the past week" or month or year. (so you don't have to enter the date range)

Sorry if already mentioned or technically impossible. When a thread doesn't show all posts, could the collapsed portion of the thread end right before the most recent bunch of posts? So the last collapsed post is 5/25/07 and the visible posts begin with 2/4/11.

This would be good. Sometimes you then load all 3600 messages and discover that you hadn't actually missed any messages, the first unread message was the first after the fold all along, but you had no way of knowing.

What about a separate ILX Marketplace board where people can buy/sell/trade stuff without clogging up other boards?

That would be a neat idea.

Any mod-talk on a marketplace board? It's an idea that wouldn't require any new code. I'd be willing to re-enter the mod ranks to keep it de-spammed.

fyi a workaround right now is to click the permalink of the last post before the 'fold' and then you get another page's worth of posts starting with that one, then repeat ad infinitum for long threads

this usually works but sometimes i get another 'fold' just before that post?

Seriously, the next time something gets coded in, a "hide thread" option would be so appreciated. Like, I want to read I Love Music, but I don't ever want to see the words "Gayngs Chub Licker" again.

when you open a thread it will automatically start to scroll at about 2 lines per second, no way to stop the scrolling, no way to go back up

when you reach the end you will never be able to click on that thread ever again unless somebody else updates it

once a thread goes over a certain number of posts (like 1,000 e.g.), no one is able to make new posts anymore. instead, they must go back through the thread, find the post that most closely matches their sentiments, and c&p it. this could be combined with an incentive system where once your post is c&p'd 10 times, you lose a SB or something.

I want to be able to change the date format. That is all.

More poll forms would be fun. One that allowed you to rank the options from first to last, say, or just allowed you to tick multiple boxes, livejournal style.

I really, really, really would love to see this. It would make polls immeasurably more interesting and (imo) accurate.
