OK, it matters whose mouth is saying what to whom. White "wiggas" using the word amongst each other is different than blacks using it and most especially different than a white dude using it for a black dude while evoking the history of lynching.

Why on earth are you so interested in defending a dude who screams out about lynching and repeats the word "nigger" over and over again on stage, causing the entire audience to walk out?

I don't want to defend him, I don't even like him. I just don't want to call him a racist without knowing more. He did X, therefore he is Y and all Y are Z. Isn't that the same sort of thinking that led to lynchings in the first place?

The tape makes him look pretty guilty, but when I watched it appeared to me that the reaction was so outlandish something must have provoked it. I don't know what, but I noticed nobody's came up with any plausible motive for his behaviour except that he's a barely constrained dyed-in-the-wool racist who just had to see a black man to be tipped over the edge.

Perhaps that's true, but do you manage to hide it on stage every night for all these years?

The only reason I care(d) is because his motivation might not have been racist. That's why the WHY matters, because without even wondering about it you're saying "screaming nigger means you're a racist, no ifs or buts". Perhaps that's true. Fair enough, if so.
