L = Dean Martin?
― ENBB, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
I thought the Jordan pic was pretty random (also he's like the squarest looking dude in the photo) Don't really remember seeing Jordan bro-ing down with hiphoppers on the reg. So NYAH max :)

― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:29 (fifteen years ago)
Crap, if only the photo of Dean Martin with the Kinks was on the interwebs!
(yes, it exists; they were on his tv show in 1965)

― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)
Fun fact: In Mojo recently they had article about Apple Records and one of the employees said that Muhammed Ali used to call the office every few days, "...that he loved chatting with the Fab Four."
― Your cousin, Marvin Cobain (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:07 (fifteen years ago)
That Ali/Beatles photo is one of my favorite ever; I'm not sure that I wouldn't have expected them to be photographed together in 1964 (it makes perfect sense in so many ways), but it does make me really happy.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:08 (fifteen years ago)
IIRC, the Beatles/Ali pic was a photo op from their trip to Miami for the second Ed Sullivan appearance. Ali was training there at the time.
― Your cousin, Marvin Cobain (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:10 (fifteen years ago)
It is pretty damn cute
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:10 (fifteen years ago)
A long-serving teaching assistant in my school tells the story of working for Toronto's municipal government around the time of Ali's George Chuvalo fight, and how she processed a tax form bearing Ali's signature (he was still signing "Cassius Clay" for legal reasons).

Ali/Liston took place in Miami on February 25, 1964. Malcolm X and Sam Cooke were in town for the fight, making Miami the cultural/political center of the universe for a few days.

Too bad there isn't an Ali/X/Cooke/Beatles pic. Now That's What I Call A Photo Op!

Interesting to see that photo from the synth debate from (i think) NME in about '80. My brother used to have the edition it came from , unfortunately long gone. Didn't realise longhaired person at front was Boyd until I read a comment. Who is bushy haired person towards back?
― Stevolende, Sunday, 6 February 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
Where? There's one post mentioning boyd & danielle dax in "that synth picture" but I don't see it? :-/

Is that Bruce Springsteen on the right?
― calstars, Sunday, 6 February 2011 22:53 (fifteen years ago)
Say what you want about Kenny G, but in his defense, he is a Miles fan.
― calstars, Sunday, 6 February 2011 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
It's not Springsteen. Maybe Tommy Mottola?
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 6 February 2011 22:56 (fifteen years ago)
It's either Kevin James or The Rock. Either way, worst incarnation of the Traveling Wilburys ever.

not a lot of photos yet (I don't get much pleasure from John Wayne Gacy and Rosalynn Carter), but there surely will be eventually, and for now we have the nice stories.

yeah, the one on the stairs. Not sure how you get quote boxes on this forum yet. Thanks for finding the article that was from. Not seen it in years, about 8 or 9 years ago lost all the early 80s music press I used to reread voraciously a few years earlier. Would love to get it back, it really shaped a great degree of my later listening. Was my elder bro's but he left it behind when he went to college and moved out of home.
