I got used to the size of my old 305 quickly. Now use a 310xt.

Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, the 305 isn't as xboxhuge as it looks in pictures. it's not even heavy really.

man now i want a fancy watch!
someone gave me a (v cheap) digital/stopwatch for xmas... i can't figure out how to work it because the instructions are like half a page and make no sense. :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

about to head out for a sockless run in trail shoes. been meaning to try this for some time

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

whats the deal w/no socks whys it a thing

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

ehhh kinda overrated imo. some trail runners dont wear socks. just kinda made one of my blisters rear its head tho ;_;

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 05:51 (fifteen years ago)

i did sockless once when i forgot my socks once-- boy did i regret that at about mile 5.

its not as lol-looking as all the trailrunners i saw wearing compression socks last summer though.

but _only_ once.

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 06:38 (fifteen years ago)

compression socks = loooooool

compression shorts = LIFESAVER for minimal chafing on 20+ milers

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 06:55 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure I get the sockless. What is the value add there?

I run in compression socks occasionally.

Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

not sure about the value add, but i know a bunch of ultrarunners who swear by sockless minimal shoes, including ant0n krup1cka, who had a big hand in designing the NB 101 trail shoe, my shoe of choice, sooo.......

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 14:41 (fifteen years ago)

Probably some hippy reason then.

Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

substitute "ultramarathon" for "ironman" and this is basically my life the past 4 months training

still got that annoying shin pain, i guess is shin splints. kind of a dull pain on the inside of my shins when i go down or up stairs. i haven't ran since last weds, but i guess always the chance it's just stiffness rather than still injured. might try tmrw.

Very snowy run tonight. Felt good though. My anti-treadmill winter continues.

Jeff, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

love running in the snow

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 01:04 (fifteen years ago)

can't decide whether to go out tonight for 2-3 miles. it's 23º in austin right now. feels like 8º with wind chill :(

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

Do it.

Jeff, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

convince me

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

Because your a better runner than me and I just ran in 22 degrees, -9 wind chill, and 30 mph winds. So you should be able to do double that at least.

Jeff, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:30 (fifteen years ago)

goddamnit fine, i'll go out for a bit ;_;

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

btw you'd be "better" if i was injured and you weren't! luck o the draw

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha, I could not face the austin FREEZE so I just did a really long run last night.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

Have runner's knee, frustrated as hell. ~10 weeks until the London marathon, I'm not getting any less unfit by not training properly.

Daithi Lacha Flame (seandalai), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

that first big dip in pace was taking a wrong turn and having to cross a rail yard through three foot drifts - every stat tells a story - luv u garmin *sniffle*

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:49 (fifteen years ago)

Garmin makes life better.

May try my first sub zero run tomorrow morning.

Jeff, Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

the elevation is a lil fucked up on this report for sure - the first three and a half miles on this run are the same as the one i posted a couple days ago - and the elevation on that one looks way different and much more correct

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

i was never below 500ft on this run

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

seems like its just v beginning thats weird tho

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

i wish my watch had a camera inside it because not only was this run a nice workout it was also vv pretty

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:19 (fifteen years ago)

they make regular cameras yknow

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:25 (fifteen years ago)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31%2BIHSFyW9L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

^^ i like carrying this on my runs, it's a super light camera with a clip, can be banged around or dropped, really sturdy

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

btw it's called a Bean camera lol

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

hmmm

ice cr?m, Thursday, 3 February 2011 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

That's pretty cool. How much?

No subzero run this morning. I think I would have been warm enough but I have the hardest time getting out of bed when it is cold. It just never makes logical sense.

Jeff, Thursday, 3 February 2011 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

want a garmin now badly.

ran a v quick 6 miles tonight, about 50 mins or so. my first run in a week after being a bit injured last week. the inside of my calves hurts a bit still, kinda feel like it won't go away, but it's tolerable. i guess i'll just run as and when, i don't feel like they'll heal totally anyway. would muscle training help in any way? feel like when i go on long runs as my legs tire my gait becomes looser and more likely to make me injured.

feel lately, and this may be a placebo, if i buy an energy drink or even just water about 3/4 of the way through my run, i get a major second wind and am flying for the last few miles.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 3 February 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

do any of the running watches have barometric altimetry? when i compare the barometric figures from my edge 500 (i use the watchband adaptor for running) against the imported figures on garminconnect, the barometric numbers are waay more reliable. especially things like mtn trail runs.

end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

'elevation correction' (see bottom left of repost i posted) seems to be garmins attempt at addressing elevation discrepancies - not sure how it works
