Torres is a Chelsea player according to SSN.

ailsa, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, and Conor Sammon is at Wigan.

ailsa, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

I'm glad you clarified that, I was completely mystified by that post.

Death and Taxis (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 31 January 2011 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

How come when SSN were listing our impressive January deals they left out Leigh Griffiths?

Y Kant Torres Red (Noodle Vague), Monday, 31 January 2011 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

Spurs in with a v. late bid with Adam, but didn't get him.

ailsa, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

with = for

ailsa, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

Wigan are fools, turning down £12m. Oh Spurs.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

Very glad the Adam deal didn't go through, that would be mentalism. The one thing we're definitely not short of is passing central midfielders. Would have been like signing a player just because Redknapp was pissed off at not getting any action today.

Also mad lols at no one at all trying to buy Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Matt DC, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:11 (fifteen years ago)

conor sammon in the prem...pretty mad.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 31 January 2011 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

I bet Levy shat himself when he thought Blackpool were actually going to accept his offer.

Matt DC, Monday, 31 January 2011 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

SSN said 4 clubs tried to get SWP on loan but City were holding out for an actual bid. Another six months of being paid for not playing then, same as that Sturridge lad.

Diouf to Rangers: done deal. FFS.

cozen, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 07:35 (fifteen years ago)

To be fair, Charlie Adams is a triffic lad and a triffic player with a triffic attitude. It's just one of those things.

OK good work by the Sub here

Y Kant Torres Red (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 08:25 (fifteen years ago)

Now we've signed Torres, I'm wondering what the hell we're going to do with him. That's pretty much sorted out our squad problems though, subs bench could now feature any from: Alex, Boswinga, Essien, McEachran, Anelka, Kalou, Benayoun, Zhirkov. (That's assuming CA has the balls to drop the woeful Essien for Mikel). I know it's wrong and unfair and ruining football, but fuck me that was fun.

Fucked-up amoral abuse of financial inequality might be wrong and unfair and ruining football, but The People seem to like that way, just like they like their politics.

Y Kant Torres Red (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 08:29 (fifteen years ago)

Feel like I woke up yesterday with one club and ended it following another

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 08:39 (fifteen years ago)

Amoral is better than immoral, that's the way you got to look at it. But fix the CL and the rest will take care of itself.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 09:31 (fifteen years ago)

There's still the possibility that Torres didn't just have his head down but he really has lost his goalscoring touch. Give or take an injury here or there Torres might end up looking like one of the Premiership's worst signings.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 09:59 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe. Maybe not.

if there is a King Kenny, apparently he is huge into slapstick. (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 10:41 (fifteen years ago)

TORRES: £50 million.

Arsenal's last XI to start in the league: £44m
Spur's last XI to start in the league: approx £60m (This is approx due to not knowing the specifics of Defoe's transfer return from Portsmouth).

Glad to see Diouf has found his spiritual home at last, pleased for the lad

He could be the new Michael Owen, washed up by 26

£50m to make Scousers cry - worth more then everything Arsenal have done since 1989.

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

well i got great satisfaction from torres' first publicity shot with a chelsea shirt being infront of a mural of plastic flags.

You can do that for free pretty much. It doesn't take much.

Not unlike Scousers really

Some LOL Transfer Day Deadline casualties:

- Jeffrey Bruma from Chelsea ~> Leicester on loan: Chelsea was too late handing in the paperwork
- Maxim Choupo-Moting from HSV ~> 1. Köln: A lol "broken fax machine" hurled out an unreadable fax. With just a minute till the deadline there was no time to correct this.

Any more?

Why are Liverpool fans so obsessed with plastic flags? It's just weird. Who the hell makes flags out of plastic anyway?

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

So are the fees involved confirmed? If so Chelsea spend £71 million, City £27 million, Liverpool £2 million, Arsenal, Spurs , Man Utd nothing. What a mad day. I usually still root for ex 'Pool players when they leave (except for Michael Owen) but gonna find it hard with Nando at Chelsea. Oh well, think he'll do well, although as Pete W says hard to see where they're going to play him. Drogba's gotta play in the centre surely, so Torres off the left? Right? I don't think he's 'lost' whatever it is he had and I think he'll be vital in Champs Lge this year.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:34 (fifteen years ago)

City didn't spend anything yesterday did they? If you're talking about the whole window then Spurs paid £2.5m for Pienaar and got a load of dead wood off the wage bill, albeit temporarily. But still not great from our point of view.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not so sure xp, his main thing was his pace and I fear rafa might've ruined him. He never got the good long rest he really needed imo. The great things he's done in the past season-and-a-half have just been too sporadic to form a view - that first goal against Chelsea is the only thing I can recall that only a top-form Torres could do, and it's always possible that he just caught Terry or whoever off-balance or on a bad day. We've seen nothing like the sheer terror of Vidic in that purple patch.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

Good question, maybe I've missed it, but I've not heard the most obvious question asked to Torres: What position were you bought for?

xp

LBI clearly believes the cat is gone (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

But still not great from our point of view.

Could have been worse, you could have bought Phil Neville

Interesting text exchange in the comments section here.

Some interesting reading here with the transcripts sent between Carroll and ToonTalk fanzine editor Steve Wraith -

I have known Andy Carroll for 6 years and he is a great lad. A Newcastle fan at heart and someone who dreamt of wearing the NO.9 shirt at St James. He was proud to follow in Alan Shearer footsteps.I was with him with my mate Chris Liddle after the Sunderland game and he was adamant that he was staying and that a move did not interest him. Yesterdays events happened so quickly and I was stuck in the maelstrom of one of the biggest transfers in British history. This wasn\’t a set up. These texts have been made public with Andy\’s permission and I\’m happy to help my mate. I have helped set up his only interview which will break later today.Ask yourself what you would do in Andys position? A club that has already said they intend to buy young players and sell on at a profit. Football is a short career and you have to look after yourself in this world. This move was not engineered by Andy. He is a small cog in a big wheel. He is a rising star with a bigger pay packet now. As a fellow Gateshead lad I wish him all the best and will welcome him back to Newcastle anytime. I hope other fans will do the same. Good luck mate.

Here is a transcript of the texts that i made and received.

Sunday 30th January 14:37
SW: Are you leaving mate?
AC: I\’m not going anywhere mate.

Monday 31st January 16:28

SW: Liverpool in for you mate. Any truth in that?
AC: Dunno what\’s happening yet still mate. Thanks.

17:02
SW: Sky Sports say it\’s a matter of time mate. What\’s club said?
AC: they have kind of said we don\’t want u but want me to say I wanna go. And I said I don\’t want to go.

17:26

SW: Have you put in a transfer request?
AC: No I didn\’t that\’s what I mean that\’s what they wanted me to do and I said no.

17:27

SW: So they want you to go?
AC: They said they wanted to accept it.

17:28

SW: So you have no choice?
AC: Looks like it.

17:31
SW: Your agent will be doing ok out of this. When you going?
AC: I don\’t know mate. Gutted tho.

17:32
SW: Any message you want put across to the fans? I\’m happy to do that for you mate.
AC: They said they wanted the money.

17:37

SW: Anything else?
AC: Gutted to be leaving Newcastle but I was kind of pushed out the door.

17:41
SW: That it?
AC: Just what i\’ve just said really. Gutted to be leaving my home club but I was practically told to go. Didn\’t want to leave that\’s why i signed a 5 year deal.

17:47
SW: I will pass these onto the press lads I know.
AC: Sound mate.

17:56
SW: Can you give press lads a call to do an interview when deal done?
AC: I will yeah. I will speak to him later. Bit busy atm mate.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

Seems plausible, funny to see it set out like that though.
