I love Murray so much. I want to hug him.
Me too!

nabisco, I thought the same thing myself (about them sucking when they actually do play). I think this past episode, they played something other than "Who Likes To Rock the Party", but it was equally as terrible. Will Forte seemed to sum it up with his, "Your stage characters of being 2 clueless and naive guys from New Zealand is hilarious!" (I'm paraphrasing).
That being said, 3 cheers for the Donovan-esque "Pretty Prince of Parties."

Aww man this'll blow yr mind, dude: it seemed like they played beautifully when they played that song for Coco, but, like ... what if that was just in their heads, man? Whoah.

In any case, it seems to deep-six my suspicion that they were going to go the Extras route with this, and have the second season be a whole turn-around where they're actually successful.
― nabisco, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:56 (sixteen years ago) link
funny, you want to hug him, but you want to punch him almost as much. That's the character. The hug/punch axis.

after rewatching the fruit vendor/ leggy blonde epipsode i have decided that it is the best episode. there is SO SO SO much going on there.

chaki is totally right. that was a fantastic episode.

I've never wanted to punch Murray. Ever. Granted, I don't want him to be my band manager either.
I had completely forgotten them making the video for the robot song; I was working under the theory that the TV version of Flute of the Commodores the guys only had the one "rock the party" song.
Mel/Kristen Schaal is kind of really hot in the Arwen dress.

"Motheruckers" is a great song, worked so well in that episode. I loved the whole punchline to the "youre from New Zealand" bigotry when the dude realises it's actually Australians he hates.
I pissed myself laughing at that part!

Shit's disappearing from Youtube as fast as ppl can post it up, at this point. I can't be arsed with torrents, but I am going to buy it when it comes out on DVD for sure.

I love though when he's talking about adding Todd..."you'll be a real band now, like the Policemen".

i watched a full episode and laughed a good bit but srsly the only difference between these guys and Tenacious D is that they murmur.

Saw for first time last night -- not for me, I think. I would like to swear off now and remain rather fondly uninterested, but if I kept watching I think I could come to hate them, hate them all.

i still love this show! there is a special place in my heart for funk, it's true, but also a special place alongside it for the millions of local funk bands in the world who i will never go see even if i have roommates or friends in these funk bands sorry guys

LOVE!
I saw an episode on BBC4 the other day - not quite a patch on the Radio 2 series! Yet, anyway.
― DavidM, Sunday, 23 September 2007 07:23 (sixteen years ago) link
I need to stay away from alcohol. Forever. I feel so shitty right now.
Anyway...love this show. Watched all the episodes on demand about a week ago. It is basically "Tenacious Twee" but that works fine for me as i loved the original Tenacious D HBO show. I think FOTC have better songs, though.
Jermaine's my favorite of the two. He resembles my friend Justin (even sounds like him!), except skinny and from New Zealand.
Murray is just a great character.

I don't know why anybody would prefer the stage show to the TV program: I saw some of those on YouTube and it looks like THEY ARE LAUGHING AT THEIR OWN JOKES. Well smirking at least. A little too They Might Be Giants for me. Plus the acoustic guitars interfere with their dance moves.
