x-post The main character from Freaks and Geeks actress = http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004802/

Her style in the show was very similar to yours in that pic. Hair too.

Sheenastia Easton (ENBB), Saturday, 29 January 2011 14:15 (fifteen years ago)

One night in college I drunkenly made out with some kid while wearing my Cure Paris shirt (sadly since lost to time). I distinctly remember hanging out afterwards and him saying to me, "I don't normally make out with girls who wear Cure shirts." to which I responded, "Well, I don't normally make out with jerks who like Phish." I left.

Sheenastia Easton (ENBB), Saturday, 29 January 2011 14:17 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, I never saw Freaks and Geeks. Far too flattering a comparison, of course, and to be fair the army jacket/band shirt combo wasn't exactly the most outré sartorial choice one could make in 1996. But thanks!

emil.y, Saturday, 29 January 2011 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

Also, I lived in Alabama
With a name like Johnny Fever, it always made me think you're from Cincinnati.

I've argued with a lot of people on here, but I don't think with you. I'm glad; you look mean and scary!

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 29 January 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

I'm sure this'll be way too big, which is never a good looke for me, but here's one of my favourite photos:

http://phildellio.tripod.com/candy.jpg

It was taken right after an interview in either '87 or '88. Just before it was snapped (same guy who did the photos for the piece), Candy said, "This one goes on the album cover." He was such a funny, likeable guy.

clemenza, Saturday, 29 January 2011 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

Omg, I am beyond jealous. He was my absolute favorite when I was little!

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 29 January 2011 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

Funny sidebar: the magazine I was writing for promised him the cover, and when the issue came out, he was stuck way in the corner, and most of the cover was given to Pee Wee Herman. We heard back that they were pretty angry.

clemenza, Saturday, 29 January 2011 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

ouch, lol

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 29 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

I am pretty sure I've posted these somewhere before. Maybe the LOL college thread?

Here's me and some members of Belle & Sebastian, circa 2004

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/Mandalion/meandbands.jpg

Me in 1999 at my friend's dorm. Nice Vision Streetwear high tops with mismatched laces.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/Mandalion/toughstance.jpg

2000 - my friend and I put on my mother's clothes and pretended to pose for prom pics. WTF bored teens in Greeley, CO.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/Mandalion/gayprom.jpg

Random college drinking. Urgh... yeah, that's me giving a BJ to a vodka bottle. For shame. :/

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/Mandalion/vodka.jpg

At a party in 2004. My friend and I tried to look like scientists whose beakers just exploded in their face(s). Also, Zima XXX R.I.P. I miss you.

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 29 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

some members of Belle & Sebastian

Shows how much I know--I always assumed there were just two of them, a guy named Belle and a guy named Sebastian. That sounded as odd to me as saying "some members of Simon & Garfunkel." But I've done some reading, and now I feel pretty stupid.

clemenza, Saturday, 29 January 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

lol zima

I never had any other flavor besides just plain ol' zima, but I did drink it on the regular for a short while in the 90s.

"Well, I don't normally make out with jerks who like Phish."

I think this is a good rule to live by.

With a name like Johnny Fever, it always made me think you're from Cincinnati.

Nah, I'm just a Howard Hesseman stan.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 29 January 2011 19:12 (fifteen years ago)

OK JOHN CANDY

skip shuffle fusion (los blue jeans), Saturday, 29 January 2011 23:28 (fifteen years ago)

A couple more of mine.

This I've posted before somewhere I'm sure - possibly in better quality but I lost the original scan so had to take a photo of a photo. This is the most 80s John Hughesy looking thing I've ever been in:

And here's me in 1993 or 94 rockin the indie dress and tights/boots look as one did then:

Great pics!

mustache ride like the wind (San Te), Saturday, 29 January 2011 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

I miss the guy in that B&W pic like woah. No idea what happened to him, I think he became a radiography specialist (or whatever you call ppl who do xrays and CT scans and such) but lost touch with him 20+ years back.

Citizen SNPs (Trayce), Saturday, 29 January 2011 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

He used to make me mix tapes of live Bauhaus gigs and Brian Eno albums.

Sigh.

Citizen SNPs (Trayce), Saturday, 29 January 2011 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

Love the glasses in the 93/94 era pic.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

where have u gone, long haired boys of youth

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

They're still around, but they all listen to Jack Johnson now.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

LAME

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

i thought only cougars and lame girls listened to JJ

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

He's big with the easygoing laid-back guys too, so I've noticed.

I happen to be one of those guys, but am the exception to such a rule.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

bc you wore a Cure shirt in your youth

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

This is true. But that was just so hot sk8r/goth girls would notice me (also, because I liked The Cure).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

a dastardly plan.

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

This is also why I wore Bauhaus tshirts.

Not that it worked.

Citizen SNPs (Trayce), Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

When you live in a place where your "type" is few and far between, wearing a Cure shirt is equivalent to sending a bat signal or something.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

^^ tru

beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

love the expression of the girl behind homo² in the blowing-a-vodka-bottle pic

mookieproof, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

xpost I hear you, Johnny : grew up in a country town in Australia. Cliques were practically uniformed guards. A Janes Addiction shirt basically said to most of the town HI! WE WILL NEVER HAVE A CONVERSATION

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:16 (fifteen years ago)

lol

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:17 (fifteen years ago)

And who'd have wanted it with those mullet heads anyway? I grew up in a country town too.

Citizen SNPs (Trayce), Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

Same here. Half the people in my school lived on their own farms. (The town has become considerably more suburbified since then and the school I graduated from is now the largest high school (enrollment-wise) in Alabama.) I'd consider living there again if I absolutely had to, but for now I'm just happy going back on occasion to see friends and family.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

Funny, spent my primary school and early high school wanting so bad to fit in, then boom turned 15 & did my worst to not fit in from then on, lol.

My family are all still there, and a couple of friends but yeah, not exactly nostalgic for "my hometown" in any other real sense
