Dear plxico, is that the cosmic Urantia guy? If so, I wish! I hope he does Deadsy songs on his flute!

There was an ad for him in the theater before the movie today!

dear
abbott

do ou know anything about patching holes in jeans?

yours,
dyo

dayo, Monday, 14 February 2011 02:29 (fifteen years ago)

Dear dayo,

I had a job interview at a vintage denim place* and they told me pants with holes sell better than pants with patches. So if they bought a pair of old jeans that had a patch of tar or oil on it or something, they would abrade a hole into the stain rather than patching over the stain. However, it sounds like you are more interested in wearing hole-free jeans than selling jeans. The answer is: I know nothing about this firsthand, but I should probably try, since I develop embarrassing worn holes in my jeans fairly quickly bcz I am a bit of a chubbo. Anyway, I found a tutorial for you, looks like it would work as well handsewing as it would with a serger. I do remember my mom patching my dad's jeans like that with the denim patch on the inside. They also make iron-on denim patches if you are intimidated by sewing like I am (it doesn't make any sense, I know).

*incredibly dumb story – I was 20 and barely not-Mormon and still feeling guilty about smoking pot, so I felt the need to divulge this hobby in the job interview...they didn't call me back.

Peter Pepsi (Abbbottt), Monday, 14 February 2011 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

thank you abbott! now I am wishing to have asked for the material the tailor took off when he hemmed my jeans. my hole is located near the crotch - quite embarrassing, and sometimes I wonder if my students snicker at me behind my back because of it.

dayo, Monday, 14 February 2011 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah that is why I am not into the iron-on denim patches. On a knee or something they are ok but I tried it once for a hole by my crotch and I felt like I was wearing a big comedy censorship bar. "NOTHING TO SEE HERE."

Peter Pepsi (Abbbottt), Monday, 14 February 2011 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

dear abb(b)ott(t)

forgive me and obvs no need to answer if this is too personal, but i thought you and the V lived in NM? but this appears to be untrue. also, that is a lot of commute time. do you still work in NM or something?

(ilx change is weird for me, sorry. i still feel like n/a should be in richmond and jaymc's impending marriage will throw me for a loop.)

mookieproof, Monday, 14 February 2011 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

Dear mookie,

lol! Also I didn't know jaymc is getting married ––– that is so exciting! His girlfriend is so cute. Anyway, yes: Viceroy & I moved to Tucson in July (not the best time to move to Arizona!) for graduate school. So we haven't lived there that long, you are not too behind the times! I feel like I move around a lot & always have.

When you said "this question is too personal" I was expecting something really shocking, so "y u no in land of enchantment" is nothing.

<3 A butt

Peter Pepsi (Abbbottt), Monday, 14 February 2011 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, as to your second question: it would be 3-4 hours by car to my old home in NM, so: no. Just buses are slow. The wait between buses, hurts, too: 20-30 mins between transfers. I get a lot of knitting done.

Peter Pepsi (Abbbottt), Monday, 14 February 2011 03:07 (fifteen years ago)

is is true that america (nyc & similar excepted) is a really inconvenient place for non car owners

I would say yes. Everything is far apart and designed for cars, because our country was founded by a bunch of talking cars that have since lost their power because no one believes in them.

LOL i haven't lived in richmond for seven years

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 14 February 2011 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

my experience w/ tucson is that famous/interesting ppl like that move there to get a dope house in the foothills for half what it would cost in california, and then they just hang there all the time and never leave except to maybe go to a nice restaurant once in a while.

my little brother was grade-school friends w/ this guy's kids but we never saw him:

Abbott-

I have recently undertaken dancing. I am told I am quite good, often by strangers of the opposite and desired sex. This, naturally, has done wonders for my self-esteem and social life. How do you rate dancing on your level of priorities?

The Future Of The Internet Is Interns (R Baez), Sunday, 27 February 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

Dear R Baezyio,

I am really glad dancing is a dun, exciting thing that you did! It is always nice to have something you feel really good at, that ppl give you compliments on. I love dancing and I do it a lot by myself in my house, but not out w/others much. When I do dance ppl usually say stuff like, "You just kind of do the same thing over & over don't you?" It is fun, tho!

I'm certain you're underrating yourself, Abbott, but, should you be so inclined, I have seen this song inspire amazing feats of dance from the most innocuous people.

(I'll tell you anyway, it does keep all the foley)

Dear Abbott,
I did this comic when I was a sophomore in college and I found it (and like a lot of other cartoons from junior high and high school) and I wanted to share with you.

Haha, that's awesome. "The Bible?" Also that apology is totes undue, I think, as you are a good drawer of portraits!
It is my favorite thing in the world when someone shares their comics with me!
I still need to mail that pen to you. If you can make it work, you are like the Annie Sullivan of inky.

I think a lot more damning would be a video of the daily Mormon grind & how anesthetizing it is. Tho lol "Mormon Jesus" & endless celestial sex. I think everyone who sees this vid sends it to me.

That cartoon is from a movie called The God Makers. It is pretty fucking notorious. For Mormons watching any anti-Mormon media is like tantamount to or worse than watching porn – see how it is handled in the movie "God's Army," like it is a strangler fig crushing this one kid's soul. He gets addicted to it & can't stop reading it. So, I've never seen the God Makers, not the whole thing. It is kind of stupid how you can't get a v accurate story of Mormon history from most non-Mormon sources, or from most Mormon sources.

My parents spent their 30th anniversary fighting about some stupid book my dad had bought about Muslims that said they all want to convert America to Sharia or some dumb bullshit. Just some bigoted shit. He was reading it at breakfast & my sister pointed out – isn't that basically the same thing as anti-Mormon lit? My mom sided with her & my parents spent the whole day fighting. I guess my mom both tore the book up and burned it in front of him. Goood stuff.
