Jenny, any suggestions for an agency specializing in citizenship processes? Nutshell: A Canadian costumer I know got married to a U.S. citizen, and had a baby. Because of the post-9/11 changes to citizenship requirements, she's in for a 2 year process. At this point, she's overstayed her visa and can't go back to Canada until everything is taken care of.

It sounds like she's really looking for someone to answer some reasonably basic questions, but doesn't want to pay a bunch of $$ and the agencies she has spoken with told her they specialize in Spanish language clients.

I've wasted a lot of time in the last couple of days on a somewhat quixotic task proposed by someone on the Stylus message board: come up with 1,990 "excellent" tracks from the 1990s. Someone started a shared Google spreadsheet, and it looks like we're at about 1200 right now. As I try to come up with more and more songs, I'm beginning to lose sight of what's "good," however. I see that I have a scrap of paper next to me on which I've scrawled the following:

Del Amitri, "Roll to Me"

It's pretty fun, though, because it means I've just been on YouTube all day, listening to shit like Martika and June of 44.

Funny, I had a hankering for (and downloaded) Tranquility Bass "Cantamilla" the other day, and felt no shame at all. It's kind of on the same tip -- you know, take a kind of chanty world beat thing and put a beat over it that's so perfectly innocuous you just want to break something. Hey, sometimes you're in the mood.

Ooh, also makes me think of Future Sound of London "Papua New Guinea." Except that sounds more like breaking stuff.

we were going over the final exam practice test and one student asked a question, and then another wanted to ask the same question. they talked at the same time and the second one said, "i didn't know if we should eee ass"

what disturbs me is that my students don't know how to enunciate well enough to pronounce "each" or "ask"?!?!?! woe is me.

yeah, i think it's mainly in formal writing, like contracts, to clarify numbers.
