Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Bloomfield Road: "The whole atmosphere has changed here. Blackpool fans silent and Manchester United fans scenting an unlikely victory. Worrying injury for Rafael."
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)
at least someone was surprised
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)
stop posting the real McNultys, it really confuses matters in a distressing manner.
― Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:33 (fifteen years ago)
Looked a solid penalty claim at 2-0 to me. Looked more like a penalty with every replay.
Fair play to Rafael trying to stagger his way off the pitch too avoid a stoppage.
― onimo, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:54 (fifteen years ago)
The commentators seem to have been instantly unanimous that it wasn't a penalty ('just an old-fashioned body check' said the guy on my stream). Can't really see why it wasn't, myself.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:57 (fifteen years ago)
Did you have Efan Ekoku on your stream? He seems to be some perpetually stern advocate of Man Utd being allowed to do whatever they want because it's common sense.
― Sgt's Laughter (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)
Yes! He seemed to waver ever so slightly when he saw the replay a few minutes later ('he's not got control of the ball properly, it's not a penalty ... arguably') but it was only a momentary crack in the facade.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
sounds like a fox soccer channel/fox canada stream, esp. the body check line
― dan m, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:06 (fifteen years ago)
See I didn't even watch that game, but I guessed from the last fucking five times he's covered United. If you "wouldn't have booked him for that" maybe start your own fucking sport.
― Bad Fucking Dowie (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)
Looked like a penalty to me. Rafael was Utd's best player before Giggs came on though.
― Number None, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

That's pretty much what Waddle did as well. His immediate reaction was that it wasn't a penalty, they showed one replay and it confirmed his opinion (i.e. that the attacker had already lost control of the ball), then they showed another replay from behind the goal and he started to doubt himself.

was just going to post the latest Richard Keys video, only for it to have been taken down, suffice to say he used the phrases "of course he smashed it" and "anytime you would have gone round, Redknapp would have been hanging out the bag of her" while Redknapp looks embarrassed, Gullit shows much pity and Souness contemplates murder.
Has the fact that Gray is suing the NOTW been discussed on here btw?
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:39 (fifteen years ago)
Thread for continued speculation on l'affaire KEYSY etc, rolling reactionary stupidity/misogyny/prejudice in football

That's another great save by Al-Habsi, followed by the ugliest possible goal.
No video of the Blackpool non-penalty yet.

Yeah, you don't want to give the mistaken impression that I Love Football ought to be allowed to exist.
― Bad Fucking Dowie (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:45 (fifteen years ago)
It wouldn't've mattered anyway, United would just've won 4-3 instead
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:47 (fifteen years ago)
Bloody hell. Compare that pen shout to the ridiculous one given against Agger at Old Trafford in the Cup. Refs not even bothering to hide this blatant corruption now. Rafa's "rant" against Ferguson being vindicated more and more every season.
― Venga, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
"anytime you would have gone round, Redknapp would have been hanging out the bag of her"
"Hanging out the back of it" actually. Even worse.

I really hope this a cut and paste

Refs not even bothering to hide this blatant corruption now
Yawn. Do you have any idea how pathetic that sounds?
― Death and Taxis (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)
Paranoia worthy of us lot on the SPL thread :-)
― ailsa, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:02 (fifteen years ago)
It's not paranoia. Manchester United are ridiculously favoured by referees. Go and check the facts.
― Venga, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:07 (fifteen years ago)
note the smiley, dude! (I have no idea about the veracity of your claims, but I have yet to see anyone accusing Celtic of paranoia who is able to name a single decision that has cost Rangers points, was basically sort of sympathising)

Where are these facts you speak of Venga? I would like to peruse them
― Number None, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:16 (fifteen years ago)
And why is this corruption so hit-and-miss in its effectiveness? United get a soft penalty against Liverpool in the FA Cup, but have a late, late equaliser wrongly awarded against them at Birmingham when there was a blatant handball to set it up. Gary Neville commits a foul that should have seen West Brom get a penalty and himself possibly a red card but the ref waves play on, while Rafael does very little and gets himself sent off at Spurs. And in the decisive match for last season's title, Chelsea effectively win the league with Drogba's goal which was miles offside. It's almost as if there's no conspiracy, just human error that evens itself out in the long run.
― Death and Taxis (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:23 (fifteen years ago)
It's almost as if there's no conspiracy, just human error that evens itself out in the long run.
and maybe, just maybe people are more likely to notice decisions that go United's way rather than the other way round. I mean the ten minutes injury time will be largely forgotten about now, cos United were winning at the time.
― Number None, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)
Whereas if it had been 2-2 and United had scored a winner in the 100th minute that would be yet more evidence of the influence of lizard men secretly ruining our beloved game.
― Death and Taxis (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:36 (fifteen years ago)
Gonna shoot for a tediously McNulty-like middle ground here and hazard a guess that referees are less flagrantly pro-Man Utd than Liverpool fans claim they are and more pro-Man Utd than Man Utd fans claim they are.
― Bad Fucking Dowie (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

yes!
shows how far Utd are ahead.
― the pinefox, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 08:30 (fifteen years ago)
So all this talk of Chelsea being back in it is rubbish right? I guess if they beat Utd twice they are still 4 points behind Utd and 5 behind Arsenal. And that is if they beat Utd twice, which is seemingly impossible for anyone atm ;_;
― supply 'n d-man (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 09:16 (fifteen years ago)
Chelsea are still in it in the same way that Man City and Spurs are still in it.
― Cars and Freedom (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 09:21 (fifteen years ago)
Spurs are keeping the pressure firmly on Man Utd, one mistake from them and the title is theirs, according to 'arry.

Thanks Harlan for posting the link to the visualization of the premiership table. I actually created the visualization and would love to get feedback from you guys on it's use/any improvements you'd like to see etc. Cheers, Johno
