ok, but the other two relationships in the episode (patient of the week and other patient of the week, and chase and chick we've never seen before in the show) felt totally bogus on every level

Mordy, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 02:05 (fifteen years ago)

tbg I'm sick and was half sleeping through the whole thing. I mainly just tuned in when the cute kid was on screen.

two weeks pass...

wonder which genius decided to turn this show into grey's anatomy

i've only now caught up on the first four or so episodes -- and the ep where boy gave sister part of his lung was touching ... but otherwise this is my feeling about this season so far. does it get better. b/c i'm really close to giving up.

Mordy, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 11:05 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think its that awful yet. They've certainly reached a plateau irt the House/Cuddy relationship and I think they're going to paint themselves into a corner very soon, if they haven't already. I really liked this week's episode, particularly with how they handled Amber Tamblyn's character (until the very end, which I thought was a bit of a cop out). It was kind of interesting to see someone not bullied down by House by the end of the episode (again, until that stupid last scene).

What in the heck is with this trend lately that all TV shows have to start out with funny and/or abrasive characters and said abrasive character has to devolve, soften up and fall in love? It happened with Chuck, it happened with House M.D., It happened with Psych and I believe it happened with Scrubs.

I think some of these writers need to go back and watch those terrible episodes of Night Court where Phil the Bum dies and realize that softening up a character that originally had an acrid-type personality isn't a great idea. I still have nightmares about Kind Dan.

Has No Shame (MintIce), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

Considering what he did to Amber Tamblyn's character (can't even be bothered to remember her name), House is still quite clearly an irredeemable asshole. He just happens to be an asshole in love.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

he roofied candace bergen, too!
clearly it's cutty that's going over to the dark side, not the other way around.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:16 (fifteen years ago)

come to think of it, that would probably be the best possible outcome.

it's only fair, her and wilson did get a drug-free house, after all.

j., Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

house and cutty boning just grosses me out for some reason, its like when mulder and scully started porking... there's no coming back from that

I'd say that the show picks up after the first 4 or so episodes from this season. The last episode was great... I won't spoil it.

The end with Amber Tamblyn (I'm assuming that she is the Joan of Arcadia girl) wasn't a botherable cop out (seeing as how she didn't cop out the rest of the episode) but a necessary cop out for setting up the next episode. But yeah, House sure looked like the biggest asshole for not even trying to say anything comforting at the very end. Not that I mind House being an asshole. And House + Cutty has been fine with me because it hasn't been cheesey.

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't seen this week's yet but I just need to say that I really dislike Tamblyn.

ENBB, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

And I agree with Eisbaer, the ep where the boy gave his sister part of his lung was very touching and the best of the early episodes

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

I thought this week's episode was terrible.

Mordy, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, I'm kind of tempted to say that if you found this week's episode "terrible" then I'm not sure if watching House, M.D. is the right choice for you. Although it was a little more pushed to the edges than a typical episode, I think it pretty much contained every single piece of what this show is all about - medical mystery, House being a dick, outraged team, dripping sarcasm, oddly touching romantic lives of the team, etc etc

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

The magic marker whiteboard DDX routine didn't get much play that episode, as opposed to the previous episode where they used Taub's face.
Also the 'epiphany' moment lacked a certain majesty.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

True. I guess I don't think this was like the "ultimate" episode or anything, but a fairly standard structure to it. It didn't feel as gimmicky as I thought it was going to be based on previews.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

I wish HOUSE took spec scripts, then I could pitch an episode where House goes head-to-head against a diagnostic computer program like WATSON on jeopardy.
House's honor is at stake, but in order for House to stay true to his principles, he'd have to defer to the computer's diagnoses because on every rational level, the computer should have the edge on House. Meanwhile, WATSON makes a move on Cutty...

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

^this seems like a credible storyline for next season.

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 19:21 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, I'm kind of tempted to say that if you found this week's episode "terrible" then I'm not sure if watching House, M.D. is the right choice for you.

lol wat? i've been watching since the first season. if you meant to say that if i found this week's episode terrible than you're not sure if I should still be watching -- then i'd agree with you. but any kind of original charm of appeal this show had has been totally sucked out by this point. tho i didn't find this ep as horrific as the original hooking up episode (kissing swollen leg ew), i thought it completely failed to generate any drama or stakes at all. i was expecting a real "DID HOUSE GO TOO FAR?" ep, but maybe they just can't make those anymore. it reminded me of a dozen other House episodes I've seen except in this one Cuddy was enabling House instead of fighting with him. that's not enough dynamics change to do anything for me. afaic, this show's peak was the two-part foreman dying episode and it's never quite matched those stakes since (and i really had hoped the small pox ep this season might match it, but no dice). the biggest problem imo actually is that House himself seems less and less interested in the case week by week. it feels so totally incidental. whoever compared this season to grey's anatomy is otm, except grey's anatomy was always fun and silly when it did all that relationship bullshit. this is just dreary.

Mordy, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

See, I think we have a fundamental disagreement on what is good about the show, or at least when it gets invested in any kind of "stakes". I thought that Foreman dying arc was sort of silly and couldn't really get into it.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

i would like to think the writers/directors/producers have made some deliberate decisions about how to try to navigate things since house got back from rehab and is 'trying to be mature', since the show as a whole seems more dreary / 'realistic' (even in the score and the lighting and camerawork) and along with house's drugs they've taken away an awful lot of his extra-case hijinx and b-plot comedy and all the activities that go along with being in pain (he's never in pain any more either!) and being an addict like sitting around, watching tv, playing records, and such. but that all makes it seem kind of directionless aside from the occasional highlight. maybe the sub-season arcs since rehab just haven't been played that well either—house moving in with wilson, wilson's ex-wife, house's courtship of cuddy, the shit with the team. and the team is boring as anything now.

i wonder what the right sort of arc/ending for house would be if you compared it to the ending to 'the shield'. what the fuck are you supposed to do with 'misanthrope gradually becomes less toxic to friends and co-workers'?

j., Wednesday, 9 February 2011 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

I just hope that when it ends, it does something interesting for network TV and it isn't like a final episode wedding between him and Cuddy with everyone in attendance and smiling.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah if I never see another subplot involving Taub and his soon-to-be ex-wife, I would be thrilled, but of course I imagine they have to tie that up with the two of them finally re-discovering each other (or maybe not...)

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

this has some of the best acting of any current network show y/n?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

I really liked the episodes that dealt with House losing his mind because you could tell it was the one thing that really scared him more than anything. I don't really mind House now but you have to wonder where it's all going. The problem is that he's not as unhinged or psycho as he used to be so it's hard for the show to be "shocking" without stretching. And they never explained why Kutner killed himself, either (other than "the actor quit").

House has always been about the zingers though, so even now I find a lot to like about the show.

frogbs, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

House has always been about the zingers though, so even now I find a lot to like about the show.

This is so key. 95% of the reason I continute to tune in, especially with 13 gone.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

somebody liked 13?

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:13 (fifteen years ago)

(I mean I thought she was hot liked her too, but I thought there was unanimous groaning about her)

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I'm 100% talking about looking at her. But I think her character got better as she went along, until right before she "left".

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

I do miss Kutner; he was the only person who thought House was actually funny and not just a giant dick. House couldn't really "get" to him because he didn't have an ego. I mean House says some really funny things and nobody ever laughs anymore. Foreman and Chase have been working with him for 7 years...you'd think they would have lightened up by now.

frogbs, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

replace taub with andy richter?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, Kutner was great. I really want them to bring back that gorgeous girl that was messing w/ Chase via his Facebook page.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

that was a real winner of a storyline :/

Mordy, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:28 (fifteen years ago)

that was such a lame plotline that I was praying would lead back to Cameron...

lol xp

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

The storyline was pretty awful, but it brought some lols. I could care less about the storyline, I just thought that girl was v v v pretty and I'd rather look at her than Amber Tamblyn. And yeah, I initially thought it was going to be Cameron as well.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

Ehh having a doctor that wasn't drop dead gorgeous and unlikely to appear in any "romantic" subplots was a nice change of pace

frogbs, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

^I'm not sure what this is referring to, but since I haven't watched the last ep, I don't want any spoilers & therefore am removing bookmark from thread...

uh oh i'm having an aneurysm (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:36 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, its just hard going from Cameron (who I think was very underrated re her prettiness) to 13 set me up to always appreciate having eye candy on this show. Cuddy doesn't really do it for me. There's plenty of male eye candy though.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 22:36 (fifteen years ago)

I was referring to Masters, I mean she is cute but definitely not hot the way Cameron and 13 were and since she's young and kind of a nerd I can't see them writing anything romantic for her.

I do miss Cameron for the same reason you do, she definitely was a 10/10 for me, but so is Cuddy, her body is ridiculous

frogbs, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 23:00 (fifteen years ago)

either taub or wilson could end up with narcky howser as they are now both unattached.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

what gets me is how Taub gets all these chicks.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Thursday, 10 February 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

well he's a doctor

frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2011 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

I've wondered that myself. Given his little speech during the most recent episode, I think he is just really good at selling himself, "I fixed cleft palletes in Africa, I volunteer all the time".

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 10 February 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

i thought it completely failed to generate any drama or stakes at all. -mordy

all the best drama in that episode involved either Taub or Cutty/Cutty's Mom. maybe you were too focused on house. the bathroom scene with Taub was hella dramatic

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 10 February 2011 15:31 (fifteen years ago)

otm

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 10 February 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

u guys are crazy if you think Taub's story lines generated anything at all. I can't even remember what was going on with him - just that his ex's brother punched him for something or other and his wife was like, "i won't let him do that anymore." snooze hallmark film of the week.

Mordy, Thursday, 10 February 2011 16:03 (fifteen years ago)
