hit 'permalink' on an individal post for the thread to load from there next time, i think? you can then load the previous page worth of messages back from that as often as you like to read backwards.

2. Go back to Site New Answers and click on the bookmark at the top.
3. Thread will open starting at the post you just bookmarked.
4. Above it is a link that says "View Previous Page" click it.
5. If you want to go back further, click Bookmark on the top post on this "Previous Page".
6. Repeat

Yeah that is more bookmarks. Permalinks are for linking directly to a post (hit the link, then c/p the URL) like when you want to ask for a mod to remove your ilxorly indiscretions.
