In November 2008 Sky Sports was criticised by Roy Keane who named Keys by person in his criticism, "I was asked last week by ITV to do the Celtic game," he said. "A couple of weeks before that I was asked to do the United game against Celtic at Old Trafford. I think I've done it once for Sky. Never again. I'd rather go to the dentist. You're sitting there with people like Richard Keys and they're trying to sell something that's not there."

lol

start of next seasons sky coverage to see both of jamie redknapp's testicles get a promotion to main talking heads

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 13:53 (fifteen years ago)

Keys is a ridiculously anonymous anchorman, you barely even notice he's there. I'm not sure there are many people who'd be that bothered if he disappeared from Sky coverage altogether.

Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 13:54 (fifteen years ago)

I only wish I could say Andy Gray was ridiculously anonymous too

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Monday, 24 January 2011 13:55 (fifteen years ago)

there must be a lot of staff just standing around listening to this shit w/o comment, like u'd be cast out for challenging grey or keys when they're talking shit?

also a lot of staff having no problem with it at all, laughing along etc. surely, given that its a 'we have to be seen to be doing something about this' reaction to pubic furore rather than a consequence of internal policy.

idgi fridays (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2011 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think there will be many technical underlings who'd be comfortable taking on an established and considerably-more-powerful anchor in that way. Much better to leak it and then let corporate embarassment do the work.

Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:12 (fifteen years ago)

or maybe they're not all that bothered? Nb Not heard the tapes

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:15 (fifteen years ago)

Come on, there are probably huge numbers of people who have worked in that studio who think they're cunts. They probably do this or worse all the time. You just don't mess the with the stars if you want to keep your job, or at least stop it getting significantly less pleasant.

Predicting Alan Shearer MOTD leak in the next couple of weeks.

Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

don't think shearer is interesting enough to have lol tapes lying around

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

as i said i've not heard it, so i'm not in a position to concur with the dickensian cowering workers in this sitch or not, tbh i havent much idea what this whole thing is as yet

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:23 (fifteen years ago)

xp p sure shearer is coming out with plenty of actionable shit off camera tbh

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:25 (fifteen years ago)

so is it true the 606 messageboards are being dropped by the BBC as part of cuts?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

606 design is archaic plus the whole 'only open during UK work hours' thing makes it harder to justify keeping it going. that said i never understood why 606 was a standalone thing and not a division of a wider BBC 'rant about whatever' forum led by News/HYS.

motd crew not punished for referring to players as 'jessies' so presumably that level of casual sexism is OK compared to keys/gray but it really just comes down to how much of a fuss is made.

They probably do this or worse all the time

and lots of people around them would do too - it's not like they would be the two most sexist Sky employees (moot point really but still)

idgi fridays (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

not out of human decency?

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

motd crew not punished for referring to players as 'jessies' so presumably that level of casual sexism is OK

Is that actually sexism?

Death and Taxis (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

ara sure why not, a bandwagon is a tough enough vehicle to stop once rolling.

Hopefully they'll get mark lawtenson for something serious, that's what i'm holding out for at this stage.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

secret video of jonathon pierce and john 'motty' motson doing bitches aint shit at karoake

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

mark lawrenson's moustache, out on a disembodied bender, rugby tackles a group of emos outside a stripclub

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

I liked Lee Dixon's "Not the 'does Theo Walcott have a footballing brain' debate again" swipe at Lawrenson on MOTD2.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:10 (fifteen years ago)

last night? I missed it!

didn't think they could make much of a programme out of that one match

the pinefox, Monday, 24 January 2011 15:21 (fifteen years ago)

ara sure why not, a bandwagon is a tough enough vehicle to stop once rolling.

Did Richard Keys buy you a bike when you were a kid or something? You seem a bit defensive about all this.

Matt DC, Monday, 24 January 2011 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

am searching darragh's old posts for -isms right now

Ismael Klata, Monday, 24 January 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

what bad thing might Shearer actually have said, that he doesn't say on camera?

I'm not sure - he wouldn't say anything racialist, and he probably doesn't have occasion to say anything sexualist, except maybe some kind of homophobic thing.

I guess I feel like what's bad about Shearer is what he already says - he's not holding anything back.

the pinefox, Monday, 24 January 2011 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

There was that time he wouldn't wear a Sunderland shirt for charity on The One Show.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

ha you will be hugely successful.

Matt i've not heard it, i'm just being typically contrary in re: ilx moral outrage at blokes acting like blokes when they think no-body's listening. Neither defending their behaviour as accused nor enjoying it as much as everyone else.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

xp to myself - I'm sure he would've made a donation anyway, but I recall the way he refused to wear it was a bit eurgh.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

fucksake, are we using the jabulani now

Chelsea goal: Stunning bolt from the blue as Didier Drogba - who else? [...]

dunno, someone who hasn't been useless for months perhaps? roteness of BBC live commentary seems to have been cranked up even more notches since we all turned into McNulty.

wow

zvookster, Monday, 24 January 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

it's a thing that gets me into ilx trouble, but tbh i cant seem to break the cycle.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

ps i've not slept, i reserve the right to listen to this tomorrow after some kip and do the full 180

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

if u do u'll still be a fuckin asshole

zvookster, Monday, 24 January 2011 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

When you hear what they said and the manner in which it was said it was indefensible choadery. I understand yr dislike of the public in one of its periodical fits of morality but really I'd say it's progress that people do get het up about this Cholmondeley-Warner shit, even in the name of a pile-on, rather than just tsking and thinking it's a reasonable contribution to public discourse.

Cars and Freedom (Noodle Vague), Monday, 24 January 2011 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

steady on

Ismael Klata, Monday, 24 January 2011 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

And on air or not, it was stupidly unprofessional and I wouldn't dream of speaking like that at work. What you do in your own home/pub is a matter of freedom of conscience, agreed.

Cars and Freedom (Noodle Vague), Monday, 24 January 2011 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

nah it's ok, as i said likely i'm wading in unawares here. but it does bear the hallmarks of what NV said too having come in to see only the usual reactions from the usual quarters.

ps NV has been much angrier/exasperated at me than that in his day iirc

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't angry with you man or implying that you were tsking. just saying that pile-ons can be hypocritical and boring and right at the same time.

Cars and Freedom (Noodle Vague), Monday, 24 January 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

xp re: 'on air'.. yeah, it adds extreme stupidity to the mix, definitely

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 24 January 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

lol what did they say exactly? I haven't been able to track it down & all of this has been slightly impenetrable britishness to me tbh.
