I would like a trail shoe. But first I need some trails.
― Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)
its funny how he gets all depressed when the scenery doesnt live up to his standards
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)
ive been running in trail shoes on the road recently, enjoying utilizing a slightly harder sole, im not super into the concept of shoes tho
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
The best trails around here are in the suburbs and I don't have a car to get to them. It would probably be good for my legs. 99% of the time I'm running on pavement and occasionally gravel/crushed limestone.
― Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think he's wealthy at all actually-- from his FAQ:
Financially, I've been quite frugal my entire life--some times radically so--and this has allowed me to get by with much less than what might be considered the norm. With parents who were a high school teacher and a non-profit director/farmer, frugality has always basically been a necessity in my life and a habit I am thankful that my parents taught me. I have spent several months at a time living voluntarily in my S-10 pick-up, The Roost. I am fortunate to be supported by a research assistantship for my graduate studies and various sponsors, most significantly New Balance, in my running. Combined with occasional free-lance writing/production of on-line content and running store/coffee shop gigs here and there, it has always been more than enough.

cool, even better.
― jed_, Sunday, 23 January 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
first injury in a while...v sore inner shins, sounds a bit like shin splints. what do i do, just ice, ibuprofen gel etc? and hold off running i assume. prob have been overdoing it, did that 10.8 miles saturday then 9 on monday. tried to do a short 4/5 today but after a mile the pain was too much so i had to walk back ignominiously.
i'm guessing as i increase distances i could prob stop going every second day, seems overkill. or vary things more, like fast short runs and one big run a week...

Jeff is still nursing an IT band though, so maybe jeff vs Jeff race would be closer than anticipated.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 00:07 (fifteen years ago)
I'll be in LA, probably early spring. We can race then.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 00:51 (fifteen years ago)

― Jeff, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

― tehresa, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)
about to head out for a sockless run in trail shoes. been meaning to try this for some time
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:27 (fifteen years ago)
whats the deal w/no socks whys it a thing
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 04:35 (fifteen years ago)
ehhh kinda overrated imo. some trail runners dont wear socks. just kinda made one of my blisters rear its head tho ;_;
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 05:51 (fifteen years ago)
i did sockless once when i forgot my socks once-- boy did i regret that at about mile 5.
its not as lol-looking as all the trailrunners i saw wearing compression socks last summer though.
― end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 06:37 (fifteen years ago)
but _only_ once.
― end aggro business now (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 06:38 (fifteen years ago)
compression socks = loooooool
compression shorts = LIFESAVER for minimal chafing on 20+ milers
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 06:55 (fifteen years ago)
Not sure I get the sockless. What is the value add there?
I run in compression socks occasionally.
