jeezo! well done, R.

I went about 3 miles today, strangely thrilling in the sub zero foggy weather. I'm going a bit ahead of the plan La Lechera linked me to, not that i'm pushing myself too hard just that I'm enjoying it and it's kinda boring to walk half of it. I don't think I'm doing too much atm.

jed_, Saturday, 22 January 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)

Just did 10 miles myself...no epiphany to speak of, but I'm slowly getting back into racing shape.

Can your monkey do the Bot? (seandalai), Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

tehresa, Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

my sidewalks are covered in sheets of ice and i can't run outside, so i have lost my mojo as well. i only missed one day this week, but i feel like such a sloth.

My last two runs have been sub 15 degrees. It's not bad at all with the proper tights/top/wind breaker. Mt fingers get the coldest. I need to pick up some hand warmers.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i generally draw the line at single digits, dont think ive ever been out in sub zero

ice cr?m, Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

Average temperature of my Dec/Jan runs: 26.35 degrees.

I do wish it was warmer. Warmer is nicer.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 January 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

thought u lived in l.a.

ice cr?m, Saturday, 22 January 2011 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

I would consider a winter home in LA.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 January 2011 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

I know there aren't a lot of North Americans on this thread, but tonight I saw the ESPN "30 for 30" doc about Terry Fox ... nothing makes you feel lazy and unmotivated like a documentary about a cancer survivor who ran a marathon every day for months ON ONE LEG.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

that's ant0n krup1cka, one of the 3 or so fastest ultra guys in the world right now; he has a fantastic blog where you can read about how he runs 150-180 miles per week, and also see youtubes of the walkmen and local natives O_O

I dislike that guy. Too earthy.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

I like him better than Ryan hall. But I like cutting my toenails more than Ryan hall as well.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:37 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know much about ryan hall ;_;

i follow & watch a good # of the trail ultra guys & gals, much more interesting

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:44 (fifteen years ago)

Too god-y and too earthy are my biggest runner turnoffs. I like secular futurist runners.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

i like earthy folks. who needs technology or y'know, a real job or life??

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 04:58 (fifteen years ago)

i can totally see how people get like this, based on my first 4/5 months of running. it really starts to consume your mind.

ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

i second his love for the NB101 trail shoes, my favorites by far. gonna use them in a couple weeks at my first 50 miler

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

What's the longest distance you've done so far? 30 something?

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

37-ish

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

that run around pikes peak just makes me green w/ envy O_O

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

I would like a trail shoe. But first I need some trails.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

its funny how he gets all depressed when the scenery doesnt live up to his standards

ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

ive been running in trail shoes on the road recently, enjoying utilizing a slightly harder sole, im not super into the concept of shoes tho

ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

The best trails around here are in the suburbs and I don't have a car to get to them. It would probably be good for my legs. 99% of the time I'm running on pavement and occasionally gravel/crushed limestone.

Jeff, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

i take it this guy is pretty wealthy? totally amazing all the same.

jed_, Sunday, 23 January 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Sunday, 23 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think he's wealthy at all actually-- from his FAQ:

Financially, I've been quite frugal my entire life--some times radically so--and this has allowed me to get by with much less than what might be considered the norm. With parents who were a high school teacher and a non-profit director/farmer, frugality has always basically been a necessity in my life and a habit I am thankful that my parents taught me. I have spent several months at a time living voluntarily in my S-10 pick-up, The Roost. I am fortunate to be supported by a research assistantship for my graduate studies and various sponsors, most significantly New Balance, in my running. Combined with occasional free-lance writing/production of on-line content and running store/coffee shop gigs here and there, it has always been more than enough.

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Sunday, 23 January 2011 19:14 (fifteen years ago)

cool, even better.
