i've never gotten a christmas bonus either.

colette, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I used to have a Dystopia record that had a locked groove at the end, playing a loop of something sounding like your guy dying in an old Atari game but slowed down to be really sludgy.

My bonus is the following books:

The Last Imaginary Place - McGhee
Streets, Railroads, and the Great Strike of 1877 - Stowell
Chicago's Urban Nature - Chappell
A Naturalist's Guide to the Arctic - Pielou
Dawn in Arctic Alaska - Jenness

I did at my last job. It was equivalent to an extra paycheck IIRC. But also, that job was terrible and my paychecks were meager.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

We don't get bonuses here, or at least not everyone does, but we tend to get decent presents from the owner.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

man I love the email we get here

Dear @str0physic@| J0urn@|,
I wanted to clarify that I made a mathematical error in relation to the magnetic force equation. This equation would need a magnetic constant instead of a gravitational one. The changed distance exponent in that equation does not work mathematically. While I may have made some small philosophical errors, I can assure your journal that this theory will revolutionize our view of reality. I am extremely worried that certain things have been misunderstood and/ or that the scientific community is not taking me seriously. If there are revisions needed, any comments, or needed explanations please contact me. Thank you for considering my work.
Yours Truly,
XXXXXXXXXXXX

Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

This is my favorite part of that email:
"I can assure your journal that this theory will revolutionize our view of reality."

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, that cover is just ... awful.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha ha

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

Haha.. it is, but I kinda like it anyway.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

At least it's interesting.

Hey, my resolution for 2008 - if you can even call it that - is to learn about wine. Jesse? Eric? Will you teach me?

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

if i was going to get a huge, full-back tattoo, i would probably go with a crossword puzzle

n/a, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

with all personalized clues about your life

Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

DOWN
1 Not Lucy, but____
3 Three, to Jose
5 A giant's shoe size

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, you have to throw some traditional clues in there.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

Keep it real.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

but if you ever go get a massage or something, they're going to be hell of distracted

Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

okay, i'm skipping out of work to pick up the "master" for the new Digd0wn single

Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Shit, Vince Guaraldi and Charlie Brown make everything better, don't they?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

I wonder when Sendspace will be done uploading the raw audio tracks from "Busr1de." I started at about 8:15 this morning. I'll put money on 12:45.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

I have had the following Xmas bonuses:

- Small chain grocery store in NC: 1 Turkey

- Food Lion: profit sharing check for 2% of yearly pay (which is surprising considering their history of labor problems including not paying overtime)

- flower shop: sexual harassment

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

I found a check stub in my desk at this job with my predecessor's name on it for $2500 for the week before Xmas that said "Bonus." I have not received such a check....

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

We got cash bonuses at the restaurant I used to cook at. In fact, one of the most endearing things they ever did for me was to give me a present 3 months after I had quit and moved to Chicago.

I promptly spent about half of it in their bar. They had to know that was coming...

dan m, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe he wrote it to himself and that's why he no longer works there.

I got a turkey one year as a bonus from a uniform customization business. I gave it to a coworker who had like a bazillion kids and an oven. I'm pretty sure I don't get a bonus here, as I am a public servant and I don't think there is sufficient tax revenue for such things. SO, since I am passing tax savings along to you, what I propose is that all of you who are domiciled in Illinois contribute $10 to my Christmas Bonus fund.

kthxby

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Catch's bonus to us it to have a drawing for some really great prizes and some really shitty ones (great = 2 nights at a hotel, $100 GC to Catch, magnum of good wine; shitty= baseball cap, bottle of ketchup) and then repeatedly tell us how grateful we should be to get a drawing AND a party.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

Oh and then to tell us that the restaurant did not pay for any of the prizes, but they were all promos given to them by various vendors. THANKS FOR THE RE-GIFTING!!!!

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

If you don't give your two weeks by the end of this year, I'm going to call Catch and anonymously report that you don't wash your hands after you use the bathroom while working.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to tell them that you use the bathroom while working, in the most alarming way possible.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

They actually don't allow us to use the bathroom during our shifts, so they won't believe you.

xpost!!

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

for reals?

dan m, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

Are you fucking kidding me?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

I will tell them that you wear depends and shit yourself whilst taking orders and when people complain about the smell, you tell them it is the catch of the day.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I'm no employment lawyer, but I'm pretty certain that under OSHA an employer must provide employees with sufficient bathroom breaks.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

I am kidding. Though for a while we were required to use the employee bathroom, which is a 1-seater that has to handle use by 2 shifts, each of which consists of around 40-45 workers each. This meant that it was always occupied and always unspeakably gross.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

And you are right about OSHA.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

I KNOW.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

Shouldn't you be earning your tax-payer funded wage instead of posting here?

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm on my union contract mandated break.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

Okay breaks over. Have fun getting xmas bonuses or not getting paid at all or designing crossword puzzle tattoos or shitting your pants at work.

Jenny, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

I have a new list of goals for the afternoon.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Gross.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

My plan this afternoon at work:
* play online
* eat candy
* eat more candy
* go crazy from sugar
* space out

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Reading Jenny today is like watching some good stand-up comedy. She's on.

Sarah, you wanna learn about wine? No problem.

Eazy, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

Collette,

I know I kind of flaked out and that you are now working a full time job, but would you still be interested in some development projects? I know an org that is looking for some contractual grant work in the new year....email me ksb@lt3nsp3rg3r at gmaildotcom

sisut, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

I'm wearing pajama pants under my wool pants which is warm, but they're too long and they're poking out by about 2 inches and I look retarded.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

it was fun helping to mix some tracks in the middle of the day. looks like we'll have a 25 min EP out for NYE.

Jordan, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)
