Haven't experience that pain. I'm sure it's just on the horizon for me.

― ice cr?m, Sunday, 9 January 2011 16:27 (fifteen years ago)
I probably wouldn't run if I couldn't get detailed data from it.
yeah i have no doubt it will make me better at running
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 9 January 2011 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

― plax (ico), Sunday, 9 January 2011 16:31 (fifteen years ago)
feel p good also
ipod thing is like a glorified pedometer basically... cool for tracking speed/distance/calories, but no info about terrain or mapping.
― tehresa, Sunday, 9 January 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)
i mean for $20 it is cool obv you get a lot more when you spend $$$$$$ for a garmin
a peak into the garmin world 4 u

like a garmin (GPS & nike+ integration) but not huge and hopefully not too $$$
― roustabout (cozen), Sunday, 9 January 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)
whatre the benifits of nike+ integration besides that it seems just like the garmin (many garmins r not huge btW)
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 9 January 2011 17:10 (fifteen years ago)
I am the lowest-tech serious runner I know (apart from shoes) but I do see the the appeal of a Garmin.

oh man if my husband sees that garmin thing it's all over for me - he's a total nerd for that sort of stuff.
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
do i have to have actual nike shoes to use this??
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)
they are awesoem for hikes and bike rides, i think j definitely needs one!
― tehresa, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)
i don't have nike shoes. i have my sensor wrapped in plastic and then attached to my shoe under the laces with duct tape. ghetto but it works!

― tehresa, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:30 (fifteen years ago)
you might get better results with it in a nike shoe? but i think if you are wearing it this way consistently and make sure to calibrate properly, it should work fine.
― tehresa, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)
hmmm maybe i will start off with a couple of those for us?? although lol i think i can barely make it a mile right now. our first outing was hilariously bad - thought i was gonna die from a heart attack, my legs were fucked for two days afterwards, super sore shins and hamstrings. but then we went out a second time and it was still way hard but it somehow 'cured' my leg pain?!
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)
You can get a Garmin Forerunner 205 for around $100 these days if you shop around. Essentially the same thing as a 305 except without the heart rate monitor capabilities. It looks bulky, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
I use a Garmin 310xt and love it. I use it with a footpod to track cadence and heart rate monitor.
― Jeff, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)
ok apparently he already has a garmin for his bike, and he hasn't nerded out on it at all.
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)
garmins look nice and all, but i don't want to geek out too much (even though it's tempting) -- tough enough to just get my miles in each week
woke up to run 25-30 miles at 4am today; it was raining HARD. i slept in :(
― ilxor this could be a standout thread for you imo (ilxor), Sunday, 9 January 2011 19:22 (fifteen years ago)
I love my Garmin 305! Need to find better software than the one that comes with the watch, though... it's not super awesome.

i have edge 500 bike computer that you can get an adaptorwatchband for. its mega ugly huge and kludgy, but it does work, and that's fine by me.

find the best motivation sometimes is to look at old pictures of me with a fat face = instant desire to run for me
― roustabout (cozen), Sunday, 9 January 2011 19:57 (fifteen years ago)
yah i feel like a major lack of motivation comes from how nothing really affects my weight, like when i am fit and when i am unfit i look p much the same
― plax (ico), Sunday, 9 January 2011 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
apparently there's p good software you can d/l for a nokia phone but seeing as i can't get the gps to work there's not much point in me doing it.
garmin watches on offer now and then on amazon for around €100 plax, but likewise it's never a good time for me to drop that on a sports tracker

ran my furthest ever today, i'd been stuck at 5.3 miles or so for ages, partly due to illness and bad weather limiting the amount of times i could go out. back in the swing a bit now and i did 5.9 miles in 56 minutes. was a weird one...dying after 3 miles then i bought a water and got a huge second wind, by the end i was really stretching the legs and going v fast. could have done more but decided to call it a day.
what stretches do you guys do? do you do before and after? i'm reading a lot of places now saying to only stretch after running? i do these: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_1/126.shtml
found via google.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 10 January 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
i only stretch after, but im prolly not the person to ask abt these things. i have been avoiding doing anything abt my sciatica for almost a year bc i cant afford to.
― plax (ico), Monday, 10 January 2011 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
i only stretch after too, partly cos i've read you should, partly cos stretching is BORING.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 10 January 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
Not sure what the point of stretching beforehand is if you're just going out on a run (as opposed to a track session or circuits or w/e), you'll warm up quickly enough anyway. I stretch for a minute or so after most runs and put a bit more effort if I'm feeling sore or did a hard session.
― Dans la Bot (seandalai), Monday, 10 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
I avoid all stretching. I do about 40 reps on the foam roller before and after each run.
