Trying to work out the briefing behind today's press, it looks like: Roy probably will stay, not least because someone needs to take the flak for the next game; Dalglish is in no way an option, even as caretaker; Roy's out before the end of the season if Deschamps/Klinnsmann/PB is ready to start first. Half-expect Roy to walk this week though.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 6 January 2011 10:48 (fifteen years ago)

Keep seeing rumours that Phil Thompson has asked for a 6 month sabbatical from Sky Sports. They could do worse for caretakers :/

Interesting article on contenders by Jonathan Wilson: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jonathan_wilson/01/04/prospective.liverpoolcoaches/index.html I think Rangnick looks like enough of a maniac to take the job.

Stevie T, Thursday, 6 January 2011 10:56 (fifteen years ago)

The idea that Jurgen Klopp would leave near title certainties Dortmund and managing Sahin and Kagawa to take over LFC and manage Poulsen et al seems somewhat fanciful.

Can't see any caretaker type doing a better job than Hodgson really, they might as well stick with him unless they've got a replacement lined up.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 11:00 (fifteen years ago)

Martin O'Neill not an option? Not that he's a ship-steadier, but he's available?

Honestly if you hadn't been so useless as to fail to beat Wigan and West Ham you'd be pretty much safe right now.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

I am all too painfully aware of that thx

Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:36 (fifteen years ago)

next two league games = away at Citeh and home to Pool, 4 points in the bag shd keep us out of the mire

Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:36 (fifteen years ago)

watched 2nd half of spurs in the pub last night. wasn't even that everton were snapping at heels and winning the ball, just that you lot had zero platform to build on throughout - sorely missing thudd. no outlets on the counter either with (badly out of form) lennon stood up with the forwards hoping for scraps to fall his way instead of collecting from deep and running in. not really sure how any of this is bae or crouch's fault.

jenas needs to go though, seriously useless. give o'hara a go imo.

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:37 (fifteen years ago)

It's a shame you can't somehow work Barcelona and AC Milan into your season, that'd be another six points.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

ahem. we've only beaten the shit Big Clubs tbf

Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

I think O'Hara's injured? But yeah, useless. Modric has been pretty good in that 'release the ball from deep to pacy winger with 30 yard pass' role actually, although didn't see yesterday's game.

Jenas obviously pointless.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:39 (fifteen years ago)

btw on current form kyle walker is a better selection than either lennon or hutton. and if you were mug enough to splash out on glen johnson walker'd be beter than him too. GIVE HIM BACK YOU BASTARDS.

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:40 (fifteen years ago)

Which is the Kyle we're looking to sell? I keep getting them confused.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

naughton on loan at leicester. probably right to sell, don't think he's gonna make it.

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 January 2011 12:46 (fifteen years ago)

matt

Were you bein funny to nv about not beating wigan and west ham?

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 January 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

preston'll be a big gun soon enough now

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

@Paul Tomkins
Radio 2 and Talksport reporting that Hodgson sacked!

Stevie T, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

think both naughton and walker are being offloaded by spurs iirc

caek, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

Liverpool's away form in 2010

under Rafa: P14 W2 D6 L6 (wins vs Unirea, Burnley)
under Woy: P14 W3 D5 L6 (wins vs Rabotnicki, Trabzonspor, Bolton)

onimo, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

walker might go to villa on loan, but has been talked up a lot as a future spurs starter. naughton might be sold permanently to leicster.

mizzell, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

ah ok. naughton is the younger one. p fast for a defender, etc.

caek, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

With a lot of these players if they're not getting a game I'd rather Redknapp just loaned them out to other Premiership teams to see if they can cut it at this level, then establish them if they obviously can. Worked with Arsenal and Wilshere.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

naughton is 2 years older

mizzell, Thursday, 6 January 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

Na, Radio 2 and TalkSport things are false.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Thursday, 6 January 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

also wilshere is exception, not the rule. most clubs that are known for development loan to the lower leagues. can't remember the last time a possibly exciting young british player was loaned throughout the league before wilshere (welbeck doing ok this season). o'hara at pompy doesn't count obv.

I've got a piece up on Run Of Play today. I think my conclusion is: Roy Must Stay

Great opening Ismael!! Now off to read the rest!

howie was a rock, buddy couldn't handle it (pandemic), Thursday, 6 January 2011 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

Followed by a brilliant rest of it. I kinda feel the same way but I wonder if it's because I don't actually, y'know, GO to the games. If I had a season ticket I'd feel differently I think. As it is the lows have felt so expected to me that they don't really register as lows tbh. When we actually challenged for stuff the defeats used to really HURT. Now they just sort of..fascinate.

"I can't work harder and I can't work better". Sackable offence right there, Roy.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Thursday, 6 January 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

Actually watching the games is still painful xp, but the soap opera is terrific. I also wondered how much is down to the stakes being low at the moment - even at its worst the takeover saga only seemed to threaten nine points (easy to make up!) rather than the club's existence. We'll see if it's still such a lark when they're a point clear of eighteenth with three games left I guess.

You see I still don't really believe this. Even though with half the season gone there's no reason whatsoever to think that this scenario won't actually happen. Looking as likely a situation to find ourselves in with 3 games to go than anything else tbh.

howie was a rock, buddy couldn't handle it (pandemic), Thursday, 6 January 2011 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

Ditto. Nobody thinks it could actually happen though, which is the slightly terrifying thing.

what criteria do you have to meet to sign up to the private spurs forums http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f...
