Edgar Davids. He didn't play particularly well throughout his time at Spurs but he still somehow gave the team a bit of spirit and leadership.

For all the approbium aimed at Assou-Ekotto it's worth remembering that Gomes has conceded about four penalties this season. He seems to be slipping back into headless chicken mode.

have admitted more times than i like that ekotto's been hugely improved, both when harry first joined and again this season. But when bale isnt occupying both right-sided opposition players he's a liability defensively, and last night was a prime example.

Gomes has and always will have his blips, but on goals-cost-us vs goals-saved he's our best in a long, long time.

Yeah that's true. I don't think the fullbacks are the problem though, there are two, maybe three teams in the country that do fear-of-god attacking wingplay and Spurs are one of them (in fact we're probably the best in the country and we'll never have to worry about defending against ourselves). The problem is lack of a consistent centreback pairing which means that you get these occasional defensive mixups, we're actually more vulnerable to teams that play through the middle these days. Attacking fullbacks feel like a luxury we can get away with.

I was talking about wide play in general. Once you factor in Bale and Lennon we're better than anyone in the league, except perhaps Man United when Nani and Park are firing.

Trying to work out the briefing behind today's press, it looks like: Roy probably will stay, not least because someone needs to take the flak for the next game; Dalglish is in no way an option, even as caretaker; Roy's out before the end of the season if Deschamps/Klinnsmann/PB is ready to start first. Half-expect Roy to walk this week though.

Keep seeing rumours that Phil Thompson has asked for a 6 month sabbatical from Sky Sports. They could do worse for caretakers :/
