omg that last scene in the hallway was the best thing i've seen all year. the actress that plays zoey broke my heart.

That was really well done, I guess, but since we know she can't be the mother it feels pretty pointless.

He meets the mother at the wedding he is best man at, and at the end of the season he is best man at a wedding?

do we know that the wedding is happening at the end of the season?

i think the timeline was mentioned iirc? like it seemed months away and not years away?

whether the wedding is at the end of the season or not i feel like it's a given that they're never gonna really introduce the mother, show her onscreen and everything til the finale or maybe last few episodes. both because of the opportunity for some kind of big deal stunt casting, and so that they don't have to worry about the minefield of introducing a 6th main cast member for the last season or seasons and letting the audience decide whether she's a good character/worth the wait, etc.

we're talking about a show that once ensured its renewal for another season by throwing Britney at her trainwreck peak into a couple episodes

i'm just saying, i'd be willing to wager a little cash that my prediction (mother revealed very close to the end of the show's run + played by someone very famous or at least well known and cast for some kind of clever/in-jokey reason) is correct. although this show is totally journey not destination for me, not particularly invested in how it ends like Lost or something.

would totally watch britney as a bitter ex-stripper solving crimes in her spare time on the streets of Detroit. two kids and a mean ex-husband played by cole hauser. and a wacky grandmother who deals weed. executive produced by eminem. rappers galore.

We don't know that he meets her there - only that she's in the wedding band. He could find that out after the fact if they find out they're getting an eighth season early (and don't want him to meet her) or something.

I really want them to introduce the mother early in the final season and let us see him winning her over, but that won't happen. Writing in romances for Ted just seems to be pointless at this point - the show is more about the rest of the cast, let him have a fling here and there, but being in love with Zooey? Eh.

Zooey is full on cast member at this point, no? Liike even if they break up, she's been Robin'd into the group?

Hoping zoey stays on for awhile, I like her interactions with the rest of the group, though i still feel she hasn't really been fully fleshed-out as a character yet - i guess most of that happened off-screen when Ted temporarily became the Blitz.

also all of Ted's serious girlfriends have played a part in getting him one step closer to the mother so i'm thinking zoey will be the same if she isn't already in this one.

btw, I didn't notice this until this was pointed out to me by a website commenter but with the exception of Lily, all of the characters were dressed in colours of Clue characters, which Marshall was playing at the start of the ep.

Zoey wears white=Mrs.White, Ted wears purple= Professor Plum, Zoey's cousin Honey wears red= Miss Scarlett, Barney wears Green=Mr.Green, Robin wears Blue=Ms Peacock. The only other major clue character that is missing is Colonel Mustard and the show even makes reference to that when Marshall explaining the dilemma with clue cards uses the Colonel Mustard card for the Captain(obviously off screen)

That whole Barney as Predator thing is really silly and all, but whenever he appeared and started making those clicking sounds it got me everytime. Also yeah, I think that girl looked like Artemis.

i hate to say it, but they are kinda losing me a bit. barney is a prop. robin hasn't had anything interesting to do in a while. ted and his love life...eh. i really do kinda wish marshmallow and lilypad would move to marshall's home town for their awesome spin-off about small town life. could get into that.

marshall and lily have always been favorites for me so i have no problem with them getting more shine for a while at the expense of the other characters

i think i'm too dumb for this show. tried to watch it now that it's in syndication, but each time feels like Inception - flashbacks-within-flashbacks and now we're back at the bar, but it's 5 years before the last time from another character's POV. then I say fuggit and retreat to Wheel of Fortune...

yeah the continuity stuff can be a little confusing, especially if you haven't been watching for a while. it's pretty dumb that the reruns tend to be two episodes in a row but in no particular sequence, just a random season 5 episode followed by a random season 2 episode. if they ran it in order it'd probably be way more accessible to people who haven't already been watching for years.

Interesting... The show seemed uber-traditional to me until people on this board pointed out how it plays with narrative. Not sure why. Maybe the plotlines and humour?

Barney and Robin have moved out the frame for a reason - it is all about Marshall's dad dying and learning to cope w/ that? They aren't integral until Barney has his own dad storyline - but one at a time. Two would be overkill.

it is amazing how well this show bounced back after a really terrible season last year
