At the age of 33 and a third - the time that Christ spent on Earth - Emile Heskey scooped the ball onto the crossbar from one yard out and affected a familiar look of embarrassed resignation.

great finish but uhhhh

liverpool not even funny anymore, if it even was in the first place. kicking the arse out of it

joran van der snood (cozen), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

I just do "this facial expression" whenever I think about Roy Hodgson now.

Sgt's Laughter (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

liverpool incredibly funny still

"jobs" (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

has a manager ever been sacked (or quit) at half time?

joran van der snood (cozen), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

you can't expect any more, have we even won a game away this year? we've scored six goals away and conceded 18, and got 5 points.

zola iirc?

"jobs" (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

hodgson only appointed to test lfc fan blinker limits after rafa. I reckon he may just have cured that particular problem.

Arsenal should be winning. I should not be drinking San Miguel shandy. Can't help but think these two are related.

jol sacked at half time iirc, or at least informed.

I wonder if the Blackburn Chicken Men are triumphantly stroking their chins and contemplating that their masterstroke of firing Sam and replacing him with a fictional jobber have resulted in this scoreline, mistakenly believing it to be impressive.

Sgt's Laughter (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

roy is shit. you need to be a psychotic rafa hater to think we'd ever have done this badly with rafa.

rafa still had to go, and i'm not sure who else there was, but yeah roy out

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

As a complete outsider with no real team to support, I am loving seeing the big dogs of the past years flail around and suck.

chatz cru migratin cuz while u might want to watch arsenal/city, we only want to read about liverpool

max bro'd (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

tbf, chelsea fallen harder than liverpool this season, maybe everton too.

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

xp to darragh agreed on all points. i had hopes for roy but he's been shit. everything the naysayers said about him was true, that he's negative, that he can't win away, that he's not proven at top level.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

umm, woy is doing about as well as rafa did last season (with added NEARLY GOING BANKRUPT)

and lol

"jobs" (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

how many 'proven at the top level' managers were going to join liverpool

max bro'd (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

no he's not. "about as well"=way lower points total. rafa would never lose at home to wolves/blackpool etc. also if roy gets a pass for "nearly going bankrupt" then rafa gets one for americans blah blah blah.

except of course roy is a saint (who has never won fucking anything like what rafa has AND NEVER WILL.) And I'm not even a Rafa stan.

x-post it doesn't matter if the best manager Liverpool could attract was Ian Branfoot, that's not an excuse for Roy doing shit, and worse than he should. Liverpool can get a manager who will get them playing well, just as any club can. They are not currently playing well at all.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

woy is doing about as well as rafa did last season

No, he's not. Benitez did badly last season, but Hodgson is doing worse. You were right about it still being funny, though.

Sepp Blatter quipped (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

raf wasnt this bad last season, the off-pitch wasnt down to him, much.

Jeez sam, look what you made me do?

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:52 (3 minutes ago)

that was obviously true, he wasn't a success at inter, but if he wasn't appointed then the other choices were similarly unproven

max bro'd (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

de jong tryin to get a second booking for encroaching on a corner kick? Fuckin clown.

Sorry Arsenal, you're great but there's only one game to be watching for the rest of the evening

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

am taking a couple of co-codamol to get thru the next half hour

Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

city not afraid of launching into tackles in the box, all good so far but can see a peno happening

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

just to be clear, liverpool got 63 points last year. to beat that they'd have win 13 out of 18 games after tonight. they lost 11 games last year and unless they rescue this tonight it's 9 lost already this season.

x-post fair point nakh, i'm not saying it was a bad appointment, just that you know, it hasn't worked out. good luck to roy but i don't have a huge deal of sympathy for managers, they get huge payoffs.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

just a thought for lg....would u rather finish 17th this season and 4th next, or 5th this season and 5th next?

not thinking abt managers here necessarily

max bro'd (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

no he's not. "about as well"=way lower points total. rafa would never lose at home to wolves/blackpool etc.

In fairness, against the teams that finished bottom five last season, Liverpool lost to Portsmouth and Wigan and drew with Hull. Wolves are the only current bottom five team Woy's dropped points against as Liverpool manager.
