― horseshoe, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 00:47 (seventeen years ago)
i like sitting at the bar @ the violet hour but i like sitting at the tables less -- i was on a date when i went and it felt very separated and weird, like we couldnt look at each other and talk comfortably
― deej, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

Perhaps you guys already have heard the news, if so, forgive, please:
Dear Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus Customers:
This is to update you about CTA's fare changes and how they will affect you. Effective January 1, 2009, CTA fares will increase. While we recognize that these fare changes come during challenging economic times, they are necessary to maintain service. It is important to note that there will be no reductions in bus or rail service. Please visit www.transitchicago.com/news/motion/board/0811farechart.pdf for a complete listing of the new fares.
Pay-Per-Use Customers:
If you are a pay-per-use customer, you will be charged the new fare beginning January 1, 2009. The new pay-per-use fare will be $2 for the bus and $2.25 for the train. Also on this date, CTA will change the Chicago Card Plus pay-per-use reload dollar amounts to $10, $20, $40, $60, and $80. Any Chicago Card Plus customers who are currently reloading at the $30 level will need to change their choice. Otherwise on January 1, 2009, they will be automatically switched to the $20 level. It is recommended that all Chicago Card Plus customers log into their accounts and change their reload amounts to match their usage.
30-Day Pass Customers:
If you are a Chicago Card Plus 30-day pass customer, any credit card reload charges on or prior to December 31, 2008 for 30-day passes will be in the amount of $75. Any reload charges on or after January 1, 2009 will be in the amount of $86. Please log into your account at www.chicago-card.com to view your pass information and verify your scheduled reload date.

I'm going to steal $11 per month from senior citizens to make up for the difference.
― another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 04:04 (seventeen years ago)
Haha, I "heard" that via the band's website -- I guess I just meant "so you're not doing an Xmas show.
oh, lol. well, the website knows better than i do, so we must not have gotten the mardi gras weekend, march it is.
― some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 04:24 (seventeen years ago)
It's a long shot, but here goes: John and Dan (I think?) were talking about some band on here a while back and I thought, Huh, I need to check them out. It was a one-word named band I think. Any idea what it was?

These butter rolls look delicious, but there's that container in the background that is full of poison. I have to pass. ;)

Hum?
― Eazy, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:12 (seventeen years ago)
I was thinking that too, and can post the songs that Dan posted again, if that's the right answer.

Eric: we still haven't had our long-planned Wing Ho rendezvous. And it was especially pretty this afternoon:

― fiscal liberal (kenan), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:18 (seventeen years ago)
Oh yes, the Wing Ho. Hey ho, let's go Wing Ho. Do they have lunch deals, like the 100 Thai places near us?
― Eazy, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:22 (seventeen years ago)
Actually, from what I can tell, they don't have many lunch-type deals, and it's kinda pricey. But it's also three times the food that any one man could eat, so it could be budgeted, I'm sure.
I need to look around for what people online say their specialties are, because the place is packed for lunch and dinner both, and what I had the one time I went there did not blow my mind. But that doesn't mean anything -- they may not do pork that well. Maybe seafood is their thing?
― fiscal liberal (kenan), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:51 (seventeen years ago)
People keep showing up for SOME reason, for sure.
― fiscal liberal (kenan), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:52 (seventeen years ago)
Hum! I was thinking that on the train this morning but then I thought it sounded wrong. Thanks.

I like all of those bars. And they're all near my house, although I don't go to Weegee's as much , now that I'm not working in Humboldt Park. I also like hot buttered rolls. And hot buttered rum.
― sisut, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)
Goddamn. I heard that story before but only as "5-figure bonuses." I didn't realize how high into the tens of thousands they were going.
― another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)
I wondering how this year's Xmas bonuses will look in light of the merger. I am expecting smaller :(

omg i could have taught this class! i was going to work for these people before i got my FT job.
W0rkforce Langu@ge Servic3s has been providing English language coaching to the Chicago Fire’s team captain, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a native of Mexico City. Classes have focused on basic survival English, and Temo’s efforts to learn English have inspired many of his other teammates to do the same. Says Temo, "The service to me as a student is first class."
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)
also i still get their emails and they were looking for someone to do 1-on-1 tutoring. maybe it was this class!

does anyone want a pair of curtains? light blue, somewhat heavy material, wrinkly but never been used!
― Your original display name will be displayed in brackets. (dan m), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)
Do you know the dimensions, Dan?
― jaymc, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:45 (seventeen years ago)
4'5" wide by about 6' tall
― Your original display name will be displayed in brackets. (dan m), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:51 (seventeen years ago)
those are pretty bad dimensions for a person, but ok for a curtain
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:54 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I'll get back to you on that. I know Kr was talking about putting up curtains in our front room to minimize drafts.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:58 (seventeen years ago)
Or not curtains specifically, but just some kind of fabric to cover the windows.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:59 (seventeen years ago)
i would like someone to come to my house and design, buy, and install curtains for me. the thought of even beginning to measure and design window coverings fills me with dread and avoidance. but i want nice curtains.

guys help me with this school paper: what is an online reference tool that you would say is simple but works well? like instead of having 100 features and doing 100 things, it does one thing really well?

Nick, doesn't your school's library website have search tools? Maybe you could call them and get more info.

Directory of all heads of state, ever: http://rulers.org/
― jaymc, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)
google is probably a bad idea, library folk are not always pro-google, though it wouldn't matter if i made a good argument for it
i think i might use the RHYMEZONE rhyming dictionary
― n/a is just more of a character....in a genre polluted by clones (n/a), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 18:50 (seventeen years ago)
or some other rhyming dictionary
― n/a is just more of a character....in a genre polluted by clones (n/a), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)
the heads of state directory is pretty neat
I use that one at work all the time.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i guess this doesn't surprise me.
i was going to say imdb, but once you get into things like quotes or keywords it gets pretty wonky.
