sorry, 'perfumers' or 'parfumeurs.'

I wear Angel Schlesser Por Hombre. Does that makes me teh ghey? Mark's reference to Body Shop white musk provoked a Proustian reaction in me. *sighs*

Adam Faithless (Adam Faithless), Sunday, 13 March 2005 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

80% of scents make my nose bleed and I start clawing at my neck and wrists.

That said, I wear Annick Goutal's Petite Cherie, which only makes me sneeze 3 times when I spray it and I think it smells like pears, although it is described as: vanilla, peach, musk rose and freshly cut grass. Kind of weird, since I try to stay away from vanilla scents, but I love it.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Sunday, 13 March 2005 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.fragrancenet.com/images/photos/DECLARATION_M.JPG for me. Makes me smell like a sexy forest.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Sunday, 13 March 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hmh.. since i last posted to this thread (in 2001) i've become intolerant to nearly everything except the body shop's white musk. oh well.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 13 March 2005 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a new object of desire: nomad tea by comme des garcons. they seem to be incapable of making anything that smells less than delicious. will someone help me ram-raid the beauty hall at liberty?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 14 March 2005 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

eight months pass...
Should i wear Opium or Shalimar tomorrow night bearing in mind i'm hoping to pull?

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Haha I am very pleased there is a perfume called FRACAS! You should wear that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps it would help set the scene if you told us which specific bar you were going to

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Wear Opium. They'll be unconscious within seconds of inhaling, so pulling will be a piece of cake.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I used to have a wee sample bottle of fracas, perhaps i should head along to harvey nicks after work and try and blag some.

I've got opium parfum, it's really strong.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

haha why does anyone BUY perfume anymore when there are free samples at sephora? (i hate perfume, but i apply the same principle to cosmetics.)

j b everlovin' r (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Last time I was at Sephora I got a sample of the new Paris Hilton perfume. That's so wrong, why can't I ever get a sample of something good?

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I have yet to try it, I should put some on as an experiment and see if it has a siren-like skank effect.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Last time I was at Sephora I got a sample of the new SANTANA (as in, Carlos) perfume WTF?

quincie, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Three hours of grimacing guitar solos distilled into a 1/2 oz. bottle.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

fracas is, disappointingly, an EXTREMELY strong old-lady floral.

i'm wearing comme des garcons red palisander at the moment. i never did get the nomad tea that i lusted after upthread, sigh.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

i think fracas smells delightful! if it had 90 dollars i might buy some. i don't think it's strong at all, not like, i dunno, YOUTH DEW.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

any floral is too strong for me, really. it makes me want to gag. youth dew is totally overpowering, but i think estee lauder got tom ford in to do a revamp and one of the new items is a half-strength version.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

quorum

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Youth Dew is the most vile scent on earth. Oh my god.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

isn't it? paradoxically, it's the odor of grandmother. when someone says PEEYOO chances are they smelled YOUTH DEW.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

My grandmother wears Red Door which is 800x better than Youth Dew!!! Who greenlighted that nonsense? Yuck.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

Know what is the smell of grandfather? Aramis.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Old Spice!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

My mum wore youth dew when i was a kid and i hated it. She wore blue grass too which is just as bad.

I might got for mitsouko tonight and work on the object of my affection's limbic system.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

i love some perfumes, but only spicy, light styles ones. however today i'm wearing an old wooden bead necklace my grandma gave to me as a bracelet and it is infused with a perfume of hers that i do not like at all. i sprayed it liberally with my own perfume this morning (this didn't successfully mask the granny smell) and i've felt mildly guilty about not liking her perfume all day.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Lauren, i love Palisander. the whole red series is brilliant. i think Harissa is probably the one for me.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

SEX PANTHER

bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm wearing rive gauche this morning, perhaps i should just re-apply it tonight.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

I wear Paul Sebastian, thats it.

bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

mmm... harissa. cdg are incapable of making bad perfume. the only one i'm not too keen on is burnt sugar, but even that's better than most other scents.

does estee lauder still make cinnabar? that was what my mother wore throughout my childhood.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

What do you do when you're given a perfume you don't particularly like? My boss gave me a bottle of Chloe for my birthday and I'm not at all keen. I've taken to wearing it for work only, because work doesn't really count.

The absolute worst perfume I own is Oceanus from the body shop. It smells like Ferring on a cold day, yet I can't bring myself to bin it! It'll be the work only perfume after the Chloe's gone.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Odeur51 was a good idea but bad in reality (it smelt like baby milk on me!?) Odeur72 was much better, though.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm nearly out of my signature scent (Guerlain's Mitsouko). I am rationing myself until Christmas.

I wanted to buy my grandmother Bojour's Evening In Paris, which she used to love when she was my age (she tells me). It's been reissued in America, but the cheapest place I can find it won't let me buy it without giving a state. I don't have a state, or a Canadian province, because I live in the UK. It gave me a UK option in the pull down menu, but I still had to give a state. ARRRRGGGHHH>

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

i mean 53 and 71 :s

xp

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

As far as i know you can still get Cinnabar, i've got a bottle at home.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

i might be able to help you, anna.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

You sound like a spy film L. But thanks.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
yes:
versace noir
annick goutal le muguet
bulgari omnia crystalline

hell no:
annick goutal ce soir ou jamais
jo malone wild fig and cassis (and the new pomegranate one, sadly)
new edition youth dew (still reeks)

fragrance counters are very good for holiday shopping procrastination.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 December 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

I doubt I'd like Vetiver any more now than I like Chanel's Coco which I wore when I was 16 and thought I was chic. Now I think it smells like whore.

so true. i sprayed myself with a bit of coco, which i wore in high school, to see if i still liked it. it immediately put me in mind of the french prostitutes in the kids in the hall hotel la rut skit ("i am theenking of tony").

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 December 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

I think my next perfume will be Chanel No. 5. After 40. How long can you keep perfume anyway? This bottle of Paris I had got so stale I had to throw it out. Anais Anais reminds me of high school and Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink.

youn, Sunday, 18 December 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

My sister asked for Jill Sander no. 4 EDP for Xams. I ordered it for her on-line so I haven't smelled it yet. Any one familiar w/...?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 19 December 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

i recently started wearing parfum for the first time ever, starting on thanksgiving. for years, i've always disliked any/all perfumes and other "stanks". people have ruined it for me by wearing insane amounts, etc etc. anyway, when my stepmom was over for thxgiving, she smelled so lovely, i was actually following her around and 'secretly' sniffing her. well, she caught on and introduced me to dior's addict. i was really skeptical, but she let me try some and it just worked. i mean, it seem to work well with my chemistry. and i have to admit, it made/makes me feel so womanly or feminine or something. so, yeah, christian dior's addict. lovely.

ai lien (kold_krush), Monday, 19 December 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

i've been wearing noa fleur for about a year.. it's floral, but not too heavy. i like rose, but i hate the grandmother tea rose thing, and this is nice because it gives you a hint of rose but it's mixed with other niceness and is not overpowering.
today, i bought a little bottl of the banana republic perfume on a whim - it is very fresh and clean smelling :)

tres letraj (tehresa), Monday, 19 December 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

I bought Britney Spears' perfume for my friend's xmas pressie as she likes it for some strange reason. Talk about a red face when i had to ask for it.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 19 December 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Can any Mitsouko wearers tell me where I can find a bottle for less than forty quid?

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

http://www.strawberrynet.com/ is cheap and ships anywhere in the world, however if you need it for christmas it is probably too late.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Monday, 19 December 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

You should be able to get Mitsouko for about £25 in the perfume shop, i think there's one in the Buchanan Galleries.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 19 December 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

The thing about Mitsouko though is that the difference in quality between the eau de toilette and the eau de parfam is massive, far more so than with other scents. You can get small bottles of the eau de toilette in Superdrug for about a tenner, but I think it lacks the clingy dark edge that makes the eau de parfam so great. (I know this is verging on the obsessive, but I've been wearing Mitsouko for years and it is an additcion.)
