yeah segal and hannigan both really played that last scene well, very convincing and not at all overacted, brought the right amount of gravity to the scene that kind of took you out of the sitcomminess for a second without feeling too tacked on or incongruous.

i somehow totally missed the countdown numbers, had to look up what phil was even referring to on a recap site.

agreed. also missed the countdown numbers? but i also missed the opening few minutes

thought the wacky numbers thing was a bad clash w/ the last scene. weirdly tasteless. also, barney was overly creepy throughout.

also, I saw the ending coming btwn the title and the phone calls, but Hannigan + Segal really sold it, so brutal.

But yeah, I really liked how they pulled together a number of running threads within an especially heavy major episode: the doppelganger, all of Robin's on-air history, including minor things like Barney's 'dirty girl' dare or the Japanese news show.

Didn't notice the countdown at all, and without knowing the title of the episode that was a helluva surprise. That episode really brought out what I love about the show, there aren't many sitcoms (or sitcom actors) who could pull that off without making it seem like a Very Special Moment.

tbh i thought with the dad theme and bearded barney the reveal would be his dad, which threw me off and made it a bigger dramatic smack in the face.

wow at the countdown. i thought it was just a thing at the end to turn it from a funny ep about making babies and first days to sad end. never noticed it went the whole way through.

Not to brag, but I noticed the countdown right away (well, almost ... starting with 49). Fantastic episode, one of the best they've ever done.

i noticed it happening, not every number but most, so you a had a 'where is this going thing', maybe to marshall being infertile (but we know he probably isn't coz lily was preggo in a flashforward, could be someone else's but still), maybe something else

omg that last scene in the hallway was the best thing i've seen all year. the actress that plays zoey broke my heart.

That was really well done, I guess, but since we know she can't be the mother it feels pretty pointless.

i think the timeline was mentioned iirc? like it seemed months away and not years away?

whether the wedding is at the end of the season or not i feel like it's a given that they're never gonna really introduce the mother, show her onscreen and everything til the finale or maybe last few episodes. both because of the opportunity for some kind of big deal stunt casting, and so that they don't have to worry about the minefield of introducing a 6th main cast member for the last season or seasons and letting the audience decide whether she's a good character/worth the wait, etc.

we're talking about a show that once ensured its renewal for another season by throwing Britney at her trainwreck peak into a couple episodes

eh tbh if the wire had a chance to get britney on, it would have taken it

i'm just saying, i'd be willing to wager a little cash that my prediction (mother revealed very close to the end of the show's run + played by someone very famous or at least well known and cast for some kind of clever/in-jokey reason) is correct. although this show is totally journey not destination for me, not particularly invested in how it ends like Lost or something.
