Genuinely don't see how Roy can ride this out. Up 'til the Chelsea game could've been five or six wins and pushing at the upper reaches again, now god knows where the pieces'll land by then.

literally cannot believe that EBJT handles in the box with no call given

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

dunno how much it matters

he's not going to manage them next season, and they won't be relegated

Rockcrit from the Tuoms (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

EB&LJT these days I believe

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

rest of season for lfc is basically damage limitation for their fragile sense of self-worth

Rockcrit from the Tuoms (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

yeah there's not much point getting rid of hodgson until then

wonder will the fulham job be open for him?

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

fulham are so boring

Rockcrit from the Tuoms (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

The thing is, *everyone* is shit this season. For Woy to equal what Rafa achieved last season he needs to come 7th. Liverpool are 5 points off 7th, but have two games in hand. It's still easily achievable.

Sepp Blatter quipped (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

jeez is that rly it for chelsea highlights?

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

NB&S otm, games in hand are making this look a little worse than it is, tho admittedly it's poor stuff

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

I'd like to give Wolves credit, but I think we were a bit unlucky to lose the game, probably 0-0 would have been a fair result.

However, it would be dangerous to clear a lot of players out on the basis of one game. We wanted our renaissance to start today, but it hasn't happened. Panic would be the wrong thing to do but I'm not the sole arbiter of that.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:15 (fifteen years ago)

panic could solve the prob on the left

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

that was just shit tonight though - nobody's into it anymore, not the players, not the fans, Roy can't be into it and I'm sure the owners have a plan that doesn't look like this. And if 'games in hand' meant anything they wouldn't've lost tonight

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

that's very true i suppose

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:17 (fifteen years ago)

roy reckons we were unlucky.

Sorry, meant to add a question mark. He actually said that?

On the plus side, 22 points puts Liverpool halfway to safety against the notional 40.

i think hodgson would be better than a steadyer - he can maximise what you've got without spending money, has knowledge of the league, and would be comfortable handling big/continental players. also not too far a leap from the rafa martinet mode to have to wait too long for results i imagine.
― r|t|c, Thursday, 3 June 2010 00:06

i could even see them challenging for the title with hodgson...

I think both those were in the context of Chris, IK, and me getting criticized by a hoy hoy and others for being underwhelmed by Hodgson's appointment. I thought Hodgson was a good-ish manager and I still think he's a good-ish manager. Don't think we'll go down for instance. I just thought then and still think now that he was notch or two down from our previous manager. Plus he hasn't done himself any favours with every subsequent public utterance.

Is this in reference to being underwhelmed by Hodgson? If so then, no I don't think he's a bad manager. In fact I think he's a pretty good manager and given what else is going on with the club I think his appointment is fine. I think at the very least he'll be competant. But no, I'm also not singing from the rooftops about it. Would you be happy for him to replace Wenger?

my name is lucas (pandemic), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

(xp)Having trawled through that thread, that's more or less the case. Chris seems to have been the least impressed right from the start, you seem to have been a bit more positive, and IK was most excited by Hodgson. I think it's fair to say it's gone worse than anyone predicted.

ILX-LFC - obviously Benitez at his peak (whether you consider that to be the 2005 European Cup win against the odds with a not terribly good team, or the (to all but Darragh's eyes) genuine title challenge of 2009) would rank higher than Hodgson at this present time. But the downward spiral began under his watch and he was exasperating all of you last season. Do you think Liverpool would be doing better or worse this season if Benitez was still there?

Sepp Blatter quipped (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

ffs I've been backing Roy 'til tonight and I've been public about it. No need to dredge it up tbh, it's not like you're exposing anything I wouldn't've stood by 'til now. I've changed my mind because it's so obviously not working. Not that I blame Roy more than the players (or more than rafa even) but 'something's's got to change and he's the easiest thing there is.

The players aren't playing for him, maybe they'll play for Dalglish or whoever. I still hate half of them, but they're a decent enough squad in this league and can be cleared out in due course in preparation for the next guy.

Also context for me was that Roy would get them performing reliably to potential, rather than the perversity of rafa latterly. Arguably roy's achieving that at least.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 22:58 (fifteen years ago)

Better or worse under Benitez? Would've preferred him to be reaping this tbh, but more likely they'd be doing better I guess.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 23:00 (fifteen years ago)

idk

bad day at the office

nothing to worry about :)

Rockcrit from the Tuoms (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

I think they would be playing about the same but we would have more points. Which doesn't make much sense but that's kinda how I feel. Don't think we would have lost to both Blackpool and Wolves at home tbh. Think Torres might be playing better.

my name is lucas (pandemic), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 23:03 (fifteen years ago)

Why is it going this badly? (This is a real question - I haven't been paying an awful lot of attention). At the time he was appointed (and where those quotes were plucked from) it was widely assumed Torres and Gerrard were on their way. But they stayed. And the yanks were dragging the club down into bankruptcy and points deductions. But Liverpool were saved at the eleventh hour. So if anything things should be going better than predicted, but they're clearly not.

Sepp Blatter quipped (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

Btw am recording MOTD. Is Balotelli's hat trick in fact "the laziest of all time"? I'm certainly looking frwd to seeing it tmrw.

Chill - no criticism intended, just laughing at the hideous confounding of predictions. If you dredge hard enough you can find posts from me predicting the imminent demise of Ferguson circa 2005.

xp to NBS
Those things SHOULD be positive, yes. Esp. the ownership issue. But there just seems a fatal sense of ennui around the club. Just drifting drifting drifting into a 10-7 place finish. It's as if the players know they won't go down (they won't) and also that they won't win anything(okay we haven't won anything for 4 years but they didn't go into previous seasons knowing that) For all that we haven't won the League in 20 years lols this is the first time in over a decade that I've been SURE we wouldn't challenge for anything(spoilt I know). Not sure Hodgson is really a long term project guy and our better players (Reina excepted) don't have the time for a long term (over 2 years) rebuilding job. It's perhaps not as bad as I'm making out, but by God some of the football has been wretched.

my name is lucas (pandemic), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

by God some of the football has been wretched

That's presumably the worst part. Is this Hodgson's doing, or due to wider circumstances?
