i have a 15" hi def anti glare monitor attached to my macbook pro and you can fold it all down into like one lil package for transpo, its p neat

Last year they were announced in Jan and came out in April.

Last week I read reports that they're due to be shipped to Apple in the next few weeks. I don't know how quickly Apple plans to distributes these things (or even if those reports are accurate, of course) but I suspect Apple intends to sell metric arseloads of iPads next year, and I have a feeling it'll distribute them through telcos with contracts and bundled data plans to increase penetration. It'll need to stockpile like crazy and explode onto the market in April imo.

they don't tend to announced far ahead of release unless for new products tho, is that right? think I'll pick up an ipad 2 if only for football manager and sky sports mobile.

I don't think they'll announce that far ahead of the ship dates this year - it would risk gutting the iPad market for a few months while people held out for the new model, which wasn't a factor last year.

Yes, a repeat in 2011 seems very unlikely. I was just mentioning it because I've heard some people (understandably) use the iPhone's yearly update schedule as a guide for when the next iPad will come out, but treat January as the iPad year zero, when in fact it didn't arrive till April.

(but everything seems much more leaky these days so perhaps if people have actuallly heard of shipments ready for January it really will be that soon.)

Based purely on common sense:

- front-facing camera: almost certainly (facetime evangelism ahoy)
- rear-facing camera: probably
- 512 Mb RAM or higher: definitely
- higher-res screen: probably not, sadly (retina screens in that size are ridiculous atm, and I can't see Apple jumping up a small amount for one or two years)
- flat bottom: very likely
- a 7" model: nah

i can see why apple is moving toward ipads, etc - there simply isn't a need (right now) for computers that are much faster than a 1st-gen macbook. honestly. CS5 starts within a second or two. it plays HD video flawlessly. i'm in looove

my understanding is that on verizone you won't be able to go on the web and call at the same time (I never do this anyway but I could see not being able to do it being annoying); any chance that this is something that could ultimately be fixed with software or are we going to have to wait for new iphones to do that?

That would be good, if CDMA was only available in white, and vice versa.
