instapaper and reeder are the only really essential apps i have on iphone & ipad

The refresher for me would happen if I read something on mobile reader, therefore marked as read. Then I would double click to move over to Twitter for example, then needed to go back to that entry in reader. So I double click and go back and Safari refreshes. Since it has already been marked as read, I have to dig around till I can find it again. Rage inducing.

Safari also craps out when you lose the connection/signal. Reeder buffers everything.

Someone pls suggest games and/or white-noise/ambient apps I can bring with me on my holiday travels.

Google Reader's page on Safari has never refreshed without my making it do so, even when I leave Safari to switch apps or not use the phone. I've been trying different things to make it refresh of its own volition but it's not doing it.

I plan to use VLC as well. Groupon should come in handy so that I don't have to mess with paper to redeem them.

I play with Grindr and Scruff, but only for window shopping. The conversational skills for that sort of thing elude me.

simplynoise is the best for white noise--99 cents for three kinds of white noise, oscillation volume controls. currently saving our life in an apt w/ tragic bar noise sitch.

The fucking calendar could use a lot of improvement. Especially in terms of how it syncs with Google's calendar, but also setting alerts is annoying - I forget the specifics, but there was a problem with alerts disappearing unless I fiddled with it a lot. Also, the longest advance alert is 2 days?! That's for shit.

oh man, every other game is like 99cents right now. Loading up on RPGs.

Reeder is much better than google reader or net news wire. I'm currently reading a novel using the Kindle app, for a book that wasn't on iBooks, which I've never used. I'm not getting any eye burnout, but I'm not reading much more then 10 minutes on the train to and from work, or a bit before bed.

I regularly read books on my Palm Zire for 8-10 hours at a time at work, about 50,000-60,000 words a day, and didn't notice any eye strain. I haven't done any more than 3-4 hours at a time reading on my Touch, though.

Okay, how can i rotate an iphone vid 90 degrees without paying $30 for QT pro? Anybody with QT pro like to do a quick rotation for me? I'll be your best friend!

I think, with a decent screen (which the iPad has), this eyestrain thing might be a bit of a myth. I've certainly read intensively on mine withh no problems.

eyestrain a serious problem for me (can barely watch a DVD in one sitting) so i'm not sure i could ever do any serious reading on the iPad

I read entire books on my iPhone 4 with Stanza, it were bloody fantastic. Quite surprising, actually. In fact, that's what sold me on ebooks.

Not sure I could do it on the current iPads though, what with their rubbish low-res screen. The iPhone 4's advantage over the iPad is its insanely sharp image.

Calling the iPad screen low-res makes no sense to me. Just because it's not a bloody retina display. People get so spoiled! When it came out everyone was like "oh, gorgeous screen". Yes, I have an iPhone 4 as well.

I love my iPad and its supposedly shitty screen.

Spotify is such an amazing thing since multitasking arrived.
Tube Exits makes every journey less stressful
Encyclopedia, the offline dump of Wikipedia, is a wonder (and great on tube journeys)
Tune In Radio is beautifully done
Drop7 keeps me entertained whenever I have a few seconds to spare

For the iPad, Amazon Windowshopper, Wikihood and Flipboard are all presenting information in ways that exploit the fluidity of the interface.

Others I use a lot: Shazam, Reeder, Kindle, Instapaper, Osfoora, Chambers dictionary, London A-Z, Dragon Dictation, Appbox, Flixster, Cineworld, Train Times, Tube Deluxe, Camera Bag, Find iPhone, Air Video, Remote, Shapewriter, CineXPlayer (have they fixed VLC yet?), Birds UK
